In the view of alarming Covid surge in Kerala and to keep a track of the ongoing vaccination drive in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting.

According to reports, the meeting was attended by several union ministers, officials of the health ministry and others.

The meeting comes a day after Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said India is still going through the second wave of Covid-19 and it is not over yet.

He had said 35 districts are still reporting a weekly Covid positivity rate of over 10 per cent while it is between five to 10 per cent in 30 districts.

The meeting comes also in the wake of the festival season which began with Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra whose capital is also witnessing a steady surge in Covid-19 infections.

On vaccination front, the centre on Thursday said more than half of India's adult population has received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine while 18 per cent have got both the shots.
