The Allahabad High Court has expressed concern over the fact that the UP Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act is being ‘misused against innocent persons’. The HC emphasised that a solution needs to be found to handle abandoned cows, if the legislation is to be implemented in “letter and spirit”. The HC made this observation while delivering bail to one Rahmuddin, who has been accused under the Act. The order said that even when the cows are “shown to be recovered”, no proper recovery memo is prepared and one does not know where the cows go after recovery.
