Day after under 50k cases, India records over 54k cases

A day after recording under 50,000 new Covid cases for the first time since July, India recorded over 54,000 in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry data released on Wednesday morning. Total coronavirus infections in the country have now gone past 76.5 lakhs. 717 deaths in the last 24 hours have taken the Covid fatalities to close to 1 lakh and 16 thousand. Number of active Covid cases in the country has come down to 7.4 lakh while the number of recoveries is now touching 68 lakhs.
