Definitive, but minuscule risk of clotting after vaccination, says govt expert panel

According to a report submitted by the national committee on serious adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) to the Union Health Ministry, there is a very minuscule but definitive risk of thromboembolic events after being vaccinated. The expert panel found 26 potential cases of blood clotting after the administration of Covishied.

Emphasising that the vaccination outweighs the risks, the data analysed also suggests that the reports are scarce compared to the data from United Kingdom.

According to a report by India Today, the panel also suggested that South Asians may genetically have less propensity to develop post-vaccination clotting as compared with those in western countries.

The report adds that people should look out for post Covishiled symptoms such as severe headaches, seizures, vomiting, pain in the stomach and breathlessness.

No such adverse reaction has been associated with Covaxin yet.
