Delhi reported a significant spike in new Covid cases, just a day before the meeting of the authority which decides on restrictions.

The national capital reported 632 new cases, recorded over 24 hours, on April 19.
A day earlier, the number stood at 501. However, the positivity rate declined, possibly due to higher number of tests being conducted.

On April 19, the positivity rate was 4.42%, as compared to 7.72% on April 18. Positivity rate is the proportion of positive results as compared to the total number of tests conducted.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority is slated to meet on April 20.
The DDMA is chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, and includes Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and health minister Satyendra Jain, among other senior officials.

The DDMA is likely to discuss making face masks mandatory again, as per news agency PTI. Weeks earlier, Delhi had removed the fine imposed on people for not wearing masks. The issue of hybrid mode of offline and online classes in schools is also likely to be discussed.

Masks have already been made mandatory by Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in districts bordering Delhi, as per reports.
