Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal was briefly detained by Chandigarh police in Zirakpur area near Mohali, late on Thursday night as she was leading a 'kisan march' in protest of the farm bills.
SAD Chief Sukhbir Badal was also detained in Mullapur by the police for the same. The police also used force and water cannons on Akali Dal workers to contain the protest in Mullapur.
The SAD was carrying out three separate 'kisan marches' from the three religious Takhts in Punjab to Chandigarh against the new farm laws. The party leaders were released by the police late Thursday night after a brief detention.
Soon after their release, Harsimrat Kaur Badal tweeted, she was arrested for raising farmers' voice, but they won't be able to silence us.
Sukhbir Badal also tweeted, saying their battle for the peasantry and for Punjab was a great one, and victory in such great battles comes only through arrests. He added these arrests are an attempt to crush the struggle, but they will prove to be more of an energy for farmers to fight.
