The exchange of fire started around 5.30 am in Lugu Hills of Lalpania area of the district, they said.
The troops of 209 Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) along with state police conducted the operation in which eight Naxals were killed and an AK series rifle, three INSAS rifles, a self-loading rifle (SLR), eight country-made guns and a pistol were seized, as per officials.
Those killed include central committee member of the extremist Prayag Manjhi alias Vivek, special area committee member Arvind Yadav alias Avinash, zonal committee member Sahebram Manjhi alias Rahul Manjhi, Mahesh Manjhi alias Mota, Talu, Ranju Manjhi, Gangaram and Mahesh.
Vivek carried a bounty of Rs 1 crore, Arvind Yadav had a reward of Rs 25 lakh and Sahebram Majhi of Rs 10 lakh. They were booked by the police in various cases of violence, the officials said.
The central committee is the top decision-making body of the Maoists organisation, they said.
No injuries have been reported among the security personnel, they said.
The CoBRA is the special jungle warfare unit of the CRPF.
The operation is part of the Union government's declaration of eliminating Naxalism from the country by March, 2026.
In another development, Vishnu Deo Sai, the chief minister of neighbouring Chhattisgarh, is expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his office in North Block in New Delhi on Monday evening for a comprehensive review of the anti-Naxal operations in his state and related subjects, officials said.
This year, more than 140 Maoists have been gunned down in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh, called by security officials as the "last bastion" for Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the country.

Both Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi will go behind the bars in connection with the case, he asserted.
"You are a traitor, not just because you insult Indian institutions and Indian democracy on foreign soil but also because you and your mother have embezzled crores of rupees of the country in the National Herald case. You and your mother will not be able to get away with this," Patra said.
The ED had recently filed a chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and others before a special court in New Delhi in the National Herald case accusing them of allegedly laundering Rs 988 crore.
The prosecution complaint filed on April 9 under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) named Sonia Gandhi, a former Congress president, as the accused no 1, and her son and MP Rahul Gandhi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, as accused no 2.

Justice C M Joshi, who presided over the case, declared that the wife and two adult sons of a man named Subhash, who died in a road accident, are each entitled to Rs 52,000 under the "loss of consortium category", bringing the total to Rs 1.56 lakh.
Subhash, a resident of Kalaburagi, lost his life on April 7, 2019, after a vehicle collided with his motorcycle while he was returning home from a temple visit with his grandson.
Initially, on March 18, 2021, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Kalaburagi had awarded a compensation of Rs 10.30 lakh.
While Subhash's wife received compensation for loss of dependency, the claims made by their two sons were dismissed on the grounds that they were financially independent and therefore not considered dependents.
Challenging the tribunal's verdict, the family approached the High Court, arguing that the compensation was inadequate and that Subhash's actual monthly income of Rs 15,000 had not been accurately factored into the decision.
Justice Joshi cited the Supreme Court's ruling in N Jayasree vs Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Co. Ltd, which affirms that every legal heir who suffers due to the loss of a family member in a motor accident has the right to seek compensation. He also referred to the Seema Rani vs Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd case, in which even married daughters were recognised as dependents under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Based on these precedents, the court determined that the two sons were rightful claimants.
Justice Joshi also questioned the tribunal's decision to deduct 50 per cent of Subhash's income as personal expenses.
"A 54-year-old man with a wife and two children is likely to contribute more towards his family than himself. In the Indian context, such a deduction is unrealistic," he observed.
The court revised the personal expense deduction to one-third of the income.

The AAP on Monday announced that it will not contest the upcoming elections for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

She said her party does not believe in the "politics of sabotage and horse-trading" and has, therefore, decided not to participate in the mayoral contest.
"Now the BJP should form its triple engine government and fulfil its promises made to the people of Delhi without any excuses," Atishi said.
AAP's Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj, who was also present at the press conference, accused the BJP of indulging in malpractice during the delimitation process.
"The BJP had stopped the MCD election earlier too. Wards were shifted during delimitation. There was huge fraud and corruption during the process. Despite this, BJP lost the election and AAP formed the government," Bharadwaj said.
He also alleged that BJP councillors have tried to disrupt MCD meetings.
"After much drama by BJP councillors and ongoing defections, we have decided not to field our candidate this time," he said.
The BJP's current strength in the MCD has increased to 119 following multiple defections from the AAP over the past few months. Both MPs and MLAs nominated to the MCD are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections.
According to a notice issued by the MCD Secretary's Office, the corporation will hold its ordinary meeting on April 25, with the elections for mayor and deputy mayor scheduled for 2 pm.

Amid frightening thunderstorm and cloudbursts, hundreds of village volunteers were the first respondents to reach out to the victims of flash floods and landslide that struck several villages in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Sunday (April 20, 25), leaving two minor brothers and an elderly man dead.
Dozens of houses and a stretch of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Panthiyal were damaged, while a number of villages were inaccessible, cutting off from the district headquarters.
Deputy Commissioner Baseer-ul-Haq Chaudhary is closely monitoring the ongoing operations in the affected areas, where educational institutions will remain closed on Monday (April 21, 2025.)
"I have never seen such a weather condition in my entire life. I was woken up by the deafening sound of the cloudburst at around 4.30 a.m. and within no time heard cries for help," Mohammad Hafiz, a Seri Bagna village resident, told PTI.
Seri Bagna village was hit by flash floods that claimed lives of three people &mdash; Aqib Ahmad (12), his brother Mohd Saqib (10) and their neighbour Muni Ram (65).
&ldquo;We managed to pull out the two brothers after a portion of their house collapsed due to the flash floods but both of them had dead,&rdquo; Mr. Hafiz said, adding that the volunteers defied their fear and continued the rescue operation despite heavy rains.
Former Sarpanch Teerath Singh said all the villagers continued their efforts and were hopeful of pulling out Muni Ram, who was alive and stuck under the debris. However, the elderly man could not be saved.
&ldquo;It was a frightening scene as dark clouds were hovering overhead with heavy rains continuing. We lost three precious lives and many houses were damaged,&rdquo; he said.
The scene was no different in Dharam Kund village where police promptly acted and rescued more than 100 villagers, including women and children. &ldquo;It was around 5.30 a.m. when the local stream started overflowing after many deafening sounds of cloudbursts,&rdquo; said Asgar Ali, one of the villagers who lost his house as he praised police's prompt action.
Ranjit Singh, Ali&rsquo;s neighbour and another victim of the flash floods, said his family of three had a narrow escape and they could not retrieve a single item from the house. &ldquo;A number of cars were also washed away,&rdquo; he said.
The villagers have been given shelter at the government middle school with the administration providing necessary support including ration.
Around the same time, Sundari Mohalla and Bowhi Bazar areas were struck by flash floods, dumping muck inside the homes and shops and hotels. &ldquo;Ramban is devastated by this calamity,&rdquo; Jugal Kishore Chib said, hoping to cope up with the situation.
The Weather Department has predicted improvement in the weather from Monday, after two days of widespread rains in the plains and snowfall in higher reaches. Ramban District Administration has launched an extensive rescue and relief operation amidst devastating rains and flash floods that affected several parts of the district.
Accompanied by Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police Kulbir Singh and other senior officers, Deputy Commissioner Chaudhary reviewed the ground situation and coordinated with the specialised teams engaged in relief efforts.
&ldquo;Teams from the police, SDRF, civil volunteers, Army and other stakeholder departments and agencies, besides volunteers from the local NGOs are actively engaged in rescue and restoration operations across the affected areas,&rdquo; an official said.
"The administration is implementing government directives with utmost urgency to intensify rescue operations and ensure the safety and welfare of the affected people,&rdquo; DC Chaudhary said.
He appreciated the public response in adhering to advisories issued through social media and other communication channels, noting that people's alertness played a vital role in minimising the loss of lives during the calamity.
While confirming that huge loss of property and damage to infrastructure has been reported from various parts of the district, he appealed to the public to avoid venturing into risky areas, including nallahs and landslide-prone zones, and to remain in safer locations.
The Deputy Commissioner also urged the public to rely only on authentic sources of information and refrain from spreading or believing in rumours.
In view of inclement weather and heavy rain causing flash floods, the Deputy Commissioner said all government and private schools, colleges and technical education institutions shall remain closed on April 21.

Encouraging the farmers to take advantage of the scheme, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government has been offering a 50% subsidy to individual farmers and an 80% subsidy to Farmer Groups, Cooperative Societies and Gram Panchayats for the purchase of CRM machines.
This initiative aims to make CRM machinery more accessible to farmers, promoting its adoption and ultimately contributing to a cleaner environment, he added.
The Agriculture Minister said that the subsidy would be available on CRM machinery include Super SMS, Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Surface Seeder, Smart Seeder, Zero Till Drill, Baler, Rake, Shrub Master/Rotary Slasher, Paddy straw Chopper/Shreder/Mulcher, Crop Reaper, Hydraulic Reversible Mould Board Plough.
Dr. Basant Garg, the Administrative Secretary of Agriculture department, said that Punjab witnessed significant progress in crop residue management. The state government distributed 17,600 subsidised CRM machines to individual farmers, cooperative societies, and panchayats during previous season.
Additionally, 1,331 Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs) were also established to facilitate CRM practices. These efforts resulted in a 70% decrease in fire incidents during the previous season compared to 2023, with only 10,909 incidents recorded compared to 36,663 in 2023.

Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded after traffic on the strategic 250-kilometre Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, was suspended due to debris from mountains blocking the route at nearly a dozen places between Nashri and Banihal, officials said.
A number of villages were cut off from the district headquarters as roads were swept away in flash floods. A cloudburst struck the Seri Bagna village, resulting in the death of three persons -- Aqib Ahmad (12), his brother Mohd Saqib (10) and their neighbour Muni Ram (65).
&ldquo;I have never seen such a weather condition in my entire life. I was woken up by the deafening sound of the cloudburst at around 4.30 am and within no time heard cries for help,&rdquo; Mohammad Hafiz, a resident of the village, told PTI.

With the latest fatalities, five people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the Jammu region in two days. Two people, including a woman, were killed and another woman was injured when they were struck by lightning in the Arnas area of Reasi district late on Saturday.
The officials said about 40 residential houses were damaged after a flash flood hit Dharam Kund village. Ten houses were fully damaged while the rest suffered partial damage.
More than 100 trapped villagers were rescued by police personnel who rushed to the site despite the continuous downpour, they said.
The villagers have been given shelter at the government middle school with the administration providing necessary support including ration.
Several vehicles were swept away in the flood caused by an overflowing stream, officials said.
&ldquo;It was around 5.30 am when the local stream started overflowing after many deafening sounds of cloudbursts,&rdquo; said Asgar Ali, one of the villagers who lost his house as he praised police's prompt action.
"The situation is bad.. on my return I will submit my report to the chief minister," Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said in Ramban after he visited the affected areas accompanied by NC MLAs Arjun Singh Raju (Ramban) and Sajad Shaheen (Banihal).
A senior government official said there has been massive damage in the entire district due to heavy rain, cloudbursts, high-velocity winds, landslides and hailstorms.
"We are monitoring the situation and an assessment will be carried out later to provide assistance to the affected population. Our priority at the moment is to safeguard lives," said the senior official, who did not wish to be named.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the loss of lives and said that all possible assistance was being extended to the affected families.
The district administration, State Disaster Response Force and rescue teams were on the job to ensure swift relief, Sinha said.
"The purpose of my visit is to convey to the people that Omar Abdullah-led government stands with them in this hour of grief," the deputy chief minister said in Ramban.
He said a detailed report will be sought from the deputy commissioner and every attempt will be made to compensate the losses suffered by the people.
Teams from the Police, SDRF, civil volunteers, Army and other stakeholder departments and agencies, besides volunteers from local NGOs, were actively engaged in rescue and restoration operations across the affected areas, an official said.
&ldquo;The administration is implementing government directives with utmost urgency to intensify rescue operations and ensure the safety and welfare of the affected people,&rdquo; Ramban Deputy Commissioner Baseer-ul-Haq Chaudhary said.
He said all government and private schools, colleges and technical education institutions shall remain closed in the district on April 21 in view of the inclement weather.
All schools in Kashmir have also been directed to remain shut on Monday in view of heavy rain, an official said.
"In light of the continuing severe weather conditions and forecasts, it has been decided that classwork in all schools of the valley shall remain suspended for one day on April 21," Education Minister Sakina Ittoo said in a post on X.
"This decision has been taken as a precautionary step to ensure the safety and well-being of all students," she added.
A traffic department spokesperson said vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was stopped from both sides due to landslides, mudslides and shooting stones at multiple places between Nashri and Banihal.
He said the rain was continuing along the highway and commuters were advised not to travel on the arterial road till the weather improved and the road cleared.
A stretch of the road near Panthiyal was also swept away, an officials said and added all the stranded people were moved to safety.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh appreciated the district administration for prompt action in saving precious lives.
"I am in constant touch with the deputy commissioner. The district administration deserves appreciation for timely and prompt action, which helped save several precious lives," he added.
The Udhampur MP said every kind of relief -- financial and otherwise -- was being provided.
"The deputy commissioner has been conveyed that, if need be, whatever more is required, can be provided from the MP's personal resources as well. The request is not to panic. We shall all, together, overcome this natural calamity," Singh said.
NC leader Farooq Abdullah said large-scale damage has been reported in the Ramban and Banihal areas.
"The government is rushing its ministers to the affected areas and we will also request the Centre for financial assistance so that adequate relief is given to the people hit by the disaster," he said.&nbsp;

Despite being over 36 years old, the plant&rsquo;s units have demonstrated exceptional improvement in operational efficiency, reliability, and output during the Financial Year 2024-25.
Giving this information in a statement here today, Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO informed that GGSSTP&rsquo;s performance in FY 2024-25 has been its best in the last decade. He said key indicators such as Gross Generation, Plant Load Factor (PLF), Heat Rate, and Thermal Efficiency have shown remarkable growth. The minister added that the optimum performance has been achieved with the strategic planning, timely maintenance and optimised operational practices ensured by the Punjab Government.
The minister said that the gross generation from the existing four operational units reached 4553.72 Million Units (MU)&mdash;the highest since FY 2015-16, a time when all six units were operational. The PLF for FY 2024-25 stood at 61.88%, the highest achieved since FY 2014-15.
He also stated that the plant has also made substantial gains in operational reliability. Specific coal consumption improved from 687 g/kWh to 652 g/kWh, resulting in a notable reduction in Station Heat Rate from 2829 kCal/kWh in FY 2023-24 to 2666 kCal/kWh in FY 2024-25 marking a 5.75% improvement. Consequently, GGSSTP achieved a thermal efficiency of 32.25% in FY 2024-25, up from 30.40% in the previous year.

Power Minister said in alignment with the prevailing norms for burning 3% biomass fuel in thermal plants during FY 2024-25, GGSSTP successfully overcame technical and logistical challenges to feed biomass pellets using its existing infrastructure and manpower. This achievement not only fulfilled the target set by CEA and the SAMARTH initiative of the Government of India but also played a crucial role in reducing the environmental impact of stubble burning. Notably, 94,935 MT pellets used during FY 2024-25 were sourced from Punjab farmers, setting a new benchmark in sustainable energy practices and helping reduce carbon emissions that would otherwise have been generated by burning an equivalent amount of coal.
He also informed that smooth and uninterrupted operation of GGSSTP during the peak paddy season had been ensuredand consistent efforts were being made by the entire GGSSTP team, to maintain service quality and reliability. Looking to the future, the Minister said focused steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted operation of GGSSTP units.
He added Rs. 108 Crores have been approved for the procurement and installation of new reheaters.For which purchase order has been also been placed with M/s Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) for all units. Upon installation, these reheaters are expected to significantly ensure better and uninterrupted power supply for the state.

National Conference supremo Farooq Abdullah on Monday called for relocation and rehabilitation of the families affected by the flash floods triggered by heavy rain and cloudbursts that caused widespread devastation in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district.
Calling it a "national disaster", he urged the Centre to step in and provide immediate assistance to the affected people.
The landslide-hit Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for a second consecutive day, with a senior National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) official saying the road clearance operation, underway at 20 locations, was likely to take about six days.
Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on the strategic 250-kilometre highway after Sunday's heavy rainfall and cloudbursts triggered flash floods, landslides and mudslides in the district.
Three persons, including two minor siblings, were killed and more than 100 people were rescued as the natural calamity caused massive damage to infrastructure, including roads and residential buildings. A number of vehicles were also buried under the debris.
"This is a very big disaster -- it is actually a national disaster. Entire villages have been affected. Three people have died and we are still uncertain about the full extent of the damage. I hope the government of India and the prime minister will provide maximum assistance and support to these people," Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of a function.
The former chief minister of the erstwhile state said another cloudburst had occurred at a separate location, claiming two more lives.
"These are major natural disasters. We need to act urgently and put measures in place to prevent their recurrence," he said.
Calling for better water management systems, Abdullah laid stress on the need for repairing 'nullahs (canals)' to ensure proper flow and reduce the risk of future disasters.
"We need to fix the canals so that their water flows directly and doesn't scatter. The entire mountain has collapsed. People can no longer live there, they must be relocated and resettled in safer areas," Abdullah said.
He also emphasised "everyone needs to step in -- whether it is the central or the state government" and added, "This is the time to act and save lives." Abdullah highlighted the fragile condition of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway -- the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.
"It has been badly affected. If the train had been operational, people could have used it and been safe. Unfortunately, the weather was so bad that even the prime minister could not come (for its inauguration)," he said.
Underscoring the urgent need for alternative connectivity, Abdullah said, "The burden on Mughal Road has increased and people are being stopped at Sundarbani (Rajouri) and released in phases. We have only one road -- it has become a path of destruction." The Mughal Road connects the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region with south Kashmir's Shopian district.
Pitching for more tunnels to avoid disasters, he said a tunnel from Doda must be expedited.
"A tunnel on the Mughal Road is also essential. We need multiple alternative routes to connect the region," Abdullah said.

The tragic incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon when Pallavi and Om Prakash allegedly had a heated argument around 3:30 pm. It is reported that Pallavi incapacitated her husband by throwing chilli powder at him, then tied him up and stabbed him multiple times with two knives, as confirmed by a medical examination.
Following the murder, Pallavi allegedly video-called a neighbour, who is married to another police officer, to confess. The neighbour immediately informed her husband, leading to police intervention. When authorities arrived at the residence of Om Prakash, they detained both Pallavi and the couple's daughter, Kruthi, for questioning that lasted over 12 hours.
The police have identified Pallavi as the prime suspect, citing a potential motive linked to a dispute over real estate that Om Prakash had transferred to a family member. A police case has been filed based on a complaint by the couple's son, Kartikeya.
Kartikeya claims both his mother and sister suffer from depression and had previously threatened his father. Due to these threats, Om Prakash had temporarily moved to his sister&rsquo;s house for safety but was brought back by his daughter just 48 hours prior to the tragic event.
On the day of the murder, Kartikeya was at an event in Domlur when neighbours alerted him to the incident. He rushed home only to find police at the scene and his father dead in a pool of blood. He stated, "My mother, Pallavi, and my sister, Kruthi, have been suffering from depression and used to fight with my father frequently. I strongly suspect that they are involved in the murder of my father."
As investigations continue, no arrests have been made. Om Prakash, originally from Bihar, held a master's degree in Geology and had a distinguished career, having served as the Director General of Police of Karnataka in March 2025. He also led the Fire and Emergency Services and Home Guards before his tenure as police chief.

The estimated value of the stolen electricity amounts to Rs 12.21 lakh, with the alleged theft occurring over a two-year period from October 2022 to December 2024. This revelation has prompted the registration of a case under the Electricity Act against the 12 accused parties.
Despite the serious nature of the charges, no arrests have been made yet. "The investigation is still ongoing," said a police official. "We are diligently verifying the extent of each individual's involvement as detailed in the complaint."
The incident underscores ongoing efforts by MSEDCL and local law enforcement to curb power theft, a pervasive issue that impacts revenue and service delivery.
