Father's Day 2021: Movies that portray the father-child relationship

While every father-child bond is unique, there have been some films that have depicted this special relationship with great depth on the screen.

We take a look at some of the movies that have showcased the father-children relation in a different light.

1960's 'Mughal-e-Azam'
The epic historical drama traces the war between a father and son over a court dancer. Salim, an emperor's son, falls in love with a beautiful courtesan, Anarkali and is determined to be with her, even if it means waging a hopeless war against his father. With collections of ₹6 crores, it broke all box office records at the time of release and remained the highest-grossing Hindi film for the next 15 years.

'Akele Hum Akele Tum'
Mansoor Khan’s remake of 'Kramer VS Kramer', 'Akele Hum Akele Tum' saw Aamir Khan as a single parent who after various downfalls in his career manages to succeed and create a separate world for himself and his son. The movie also starred Manisha Koirala and Paresh Rawal and made more than ₹ 6 crores at the box office.

'Waqt: The Race Against Time'
'Waqt: The Race Against Time' starred Akshay Kumar who plays an irresponsible and aspiring actor son to Amitabh Bachchan. The movie revolved around an ailing father who throws his son out of his house to make him realize his responsibilities. Also starring Priyanka Chopra and Shefali Shah, 'Waqt: The Race Against Time' earned more than ₹ 5 crores at the box office.

'Paa'
This marvelous piece by R Balki 'Paa' had Abhishek Bachchan play father to his real-life father Amitabh Bachchan. Big B plays 'Auro' who suffers from a rare disease called progeria and is brought up by his single mother played by Vidya Balan. The movie which crossed ₹ 30 crores in box office collections won Amitabh Bachchan a National Award.

'Piku'
A comic-drama 'Piku' directed by Shoojit Sircar is all about the unbreakable bond shared by an erratic father and daughter. Amitabh Bachchan plays a 70-year-old Bashkor Banerjee who suffers from constipation and who throws childlike tantrums. His daughter 'Piku' is played by Deepika Padukone. The rest of the film is about how the dynamics unfold between the father-daughter duo as they undertake a trip to Kolkata.
