Govt: over 38.5 lakh recoveries in India, highest in the world

The Union Health Ministry told reporters in its daily press briefing that more than 38.5 lakh Covid-19 patients have recovered in the country, adding that it is highest number of recoveries in the world.

It added that active Covid cases are only one-fifth of total cases. The number of active Covid patients are pegged at 9,90,061 as of Tuesday.

The Health Ministry also said that there are 14 states and UTs in India where the total number of active cases are less than 5,000, while in 18 states and UTs the total active cases are between 5,000-50,000.

The govt also shared the latest testing numbers, saying more than 5 crore 80 lakh tests have been conducted so far.

On the vaccines that are in development, DG ICMR, Dr Balram Bhargava added that 3 candidates are in different stages of clinical trials.
