India's Covid-19 tally nears 60 lakh, over 88,000 new cases in 24 hrs

A single-day spike of 88,600 new Covid-19 cases and 1,124 deaths were reported in India, in the last 24 hours, pushing the overall tally to nearly 60 lakh.
The case tally stands at 59,92,533 which includes over 9.5 lakh active cases, 49 lakh recoveries and over 94,000 deaths.
The ICMR has said 71 million samples were tested up to September 26, of these, 9 lakh were tested on Saturday alone.
India has reported higher number of new recoveries than new cases for several consecutive days. 24 States/UTs recorded more recoveries than positive cases.
