Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that Hoshangabad city in the state would be renamed as Narmadapuram and a proposal to that effect would be sent to the Centre. The Hoshangabad town, the headquarter of Hoshangabad district, is already also known as Narmadapuram among the locals. This is because the district lies in the valley of Narmada river, with the town located on the south bank of the river. The city was named after Muslim ruler Hoshang Shah- the first ruler of Malwa.
