Russian police on Friday said they will ask Germany to allow their officers to question opposition leader and Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, currently being treated in Berlin for poisoning.

The Siberian transport police said in a statement that Russia would ask that its officers and an "expert" shadow German investigators and "ask clarifying and additional questions" to the politician and others testifying.

The German government has said the tests performed on samples taken from Navalny showed the presence of the Soviet-era nerve agent Novichok. Dismissing allegation, Moscow has said there is no ground to hold Russia responsible
