Tek Chand leads Indian contingent at the Tokyo Paralympics opening ceremony

Javelin Thrower Tek Chand was the flag bearer for the largest contingent of India at the muted Tokyo Paralympic Games opening ceremony on Tuesday, which saw a participation of only 75 people due to the strict Covid-19 protocols in place. Along with Chand, discus thrower Vinod Kumar and powerlifters Sakina Khatun and Jaideep also represented Team India at the opening ceremony of the quadrennial Para event. The ceremony started with a lively dance which was followed by the hosting of the Japanese flag. After which athletes of different nations participated in the parade.

India has sent its largest ever contingent at this year's Paralympics, a total of 54 athletes will participate in 9 different events. This is thrice the number of participants at Rio 2016.
