This condition might be causing many of the mysterious Long Covid symptoms

Even after receiving the negative for the novel coronavirus report, the battle with Covid-related health problems is nowhere near over. And the race for a cure for these lingering after-effects of Covid-19, also known as Long Covid is yet to bear any fruits.

But a new study suggests a potential cause for the Long Covid syndrome. New evidence finds that Long Covid patients continue to have higher measures of blood clotting, which may be a cause for their persistent symptoms, such as reduced physical fitness and fatigue.

Explaining the research, lead author Dr Helen Fogarty wrote that even when markers of inflammation returned to normal levels, increased clotting potential was still found to be present in Long Covid patients.

Experts have advised people with the post-Covid syndrome to watch out for persistent symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, leg pain and swelling, persistent abdominal pain and consult a doctor right away.

While it isn’t clear how many people in the world are suffering from Long Covid, WHO says it’s 10% of all Covid-19 patients while a UK study pegged it to be at least 30%. For now, understanding the root cause of the disease is a crucial first step toward developing effective treatments.
