People who binge on ultra-processed food may have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, suggests a new research published in the Journal JAMA Internal Medicine. Foods that go through multiple processes in production such as bacon, breakfast cereals and soft drinks are categorised as 'ultra-processed' foods. Researchers looked at data from over 100,000 including consumption of around 3500 food items. The study found that a 10% increase in the consumption of ultra-processed foods was linked to a 15% greater risk of type 2 diabetes. The study, however, only highlights an association between the two and more research is needed to confirm the findings.
