While employees are still getting used to the remote work environment and virtual communication, a new survey has found that nearly 1 in 4 executives have fired an employee for slipping up during a video or audio conference.

The survey, commissioned by Vyopta Inc, which helps companies monitor and analyse performance and provide workspace insights, surveyed around 200 managers of large companies. The survey found that managers don't completely trust a third of their staff to perform efficiently when working remotely, due to all the slip ups during video calls.

The virtual meeting blunders include joining a call late, having a bad internet connection, accidentally sharing sensitive information, and of course, not knowing when to mute oneself. The survey adds that such mistakes have hurt businesses by losing potential sales or clients. These findings illustrate that workers are still trying to get accustomed to remote working.

According to the video teleconferencing company Zoom, daily participants in the software surged from 10 million a day at the end of 2019 to 300 million in April 2020. However, due to escalating competition from other companies and the reopening of many schools and offices, investors are predicting that the days of Zoom's robust growth are over.
