WHO issues alert on fake Covishield vaccines in India, Health Min investigating

The World Health Organisation on Tuesday issued a medical product alert referring to fake Covishield vaccines being circulated in India and parts of Africa. The WHO in a statement said they have identified spurious batches of Serum's vaccine being circulated in India and Uganda in particular.

The global global public health agency said Adar Poonawalla backed Serum Institute the Indian producer of Covishield, had confirmed that some vaccine vials reported at the patient-level were fake. In India, Covishield 2ml was identified though SII does not produce the vaccine in 2ml (four doses).

Mint reports that sources in health ministry are investigating the issue though no complaints have yet been received.
