The Infinix GT 20 Pro is here, and there are three things you need to know about it:
- It's a gaming phone. (duh!)
- It's competitively priced at under Rs 25,000.
- Those flashy RGB lights will make you want to go out clubbing!
I've been using the GT 20 Pro for about two weeks, putting it through its paces, and there's a lot to unpack here.
Infinix GT 20 Pro Unboxing
Infinix sent us a really cool media box which had two smaller boxes inside—one with the phone and usual accessories, and the other with a bunch of gaming accessories. There's also a QR code invite to Infinix's brand-new GT Verse branding.
Inside the first box, we have this cool phone cover, a screen guard, the handset, a 90-degree charging cable, the SIM-ejector tool, along with the usual guides and manuals.
Infinix has also launched a cool Gaming Kit along with the GT 20 Pro, which we also got a chance to take a look at with the unit we received for this review.
It includes a GT mecha case, a GT cooling fan, a cable for the fan, and finger sleeves. Just note that you will have to purchase these accessories separately.
Besides that, Infinix has packed it to the brim with accessories for the GT 20 Pro, and everything just screamed hyper-indulgence.
Infinix GT 20 Pro Design
The GT 20 Pro is a phone that gamers can spot from a mile away, thanks to its new Mecha Loop Lighting system.
This RGB setup offers 8 colour combinations and 4 lighting effects, customizable for calls, notifications, charging, and music. It's even flashier than the Nothing phones, syncing with your games for that awesome, gaming laptop-like vibe.
The phone comes in three colours: Mecha Blue, which is the one I received, Mecha Orange, and Mecha Silver, each with its own unique shade on the circular ring.
Now, it has a plastic body, but it also cleverly mimics a transparent metal look, and the boxy design with its curved edges feels comfortable to hold, even though it’s a bit heavy and prone to fingerprints.
The camera module occupies the upper half of the back panel, blending seamlessly with the overall aesthetic.
While this might not be the most subtle or elegant smartphone out there, if that's what you're after, you might want to look elsewhere. Since this is a gaming phone, being loud and flashy is part of the deal.
Infinix GT 20 Pro Display
The display up front is far more traditional - it comes with a 6.78” FHD+ panel with slim side bezels and a slightly thicker chin. The colour reproduction is excellent, and the picture quality is clear and vibrant with HDR support on YouTube.
Infinix mentions Netflix HDR support, but we could not find it in the app. With 1300 nits peak brightness, visibility outdoors or in bright light is no issue and the fingerprint sensor is super quick, unlocking instantly every time.
The screen also offers up to 144Hz refresh rates, making navigation smooth, though few games support that high rate.
Complementing the display are JBL-tuned dual stereo speakers. The sound clarity is impressive, but the bass is lacking and the treble is high, affecting the loudness.
The phone also vibrates a lot at full volume, which can be annoying if you game without earphones. It's also disappointing that there's no headphone jack, especially for a gaming phone
Infinix GT 20 Pro Performance
The GT 20 Pro is India’s first phone with the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset. It comes in two storage variants: 8GB LPDDR5X RAM with 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and the top variant that we tested with 12GB RAM and 256GB memory.
On Antutu, the GT 20 Pro scored 8,08,262, lower than Infinix's claim of above 9,50,000. Thermal throttling tests showed the CPU throttling to 63% of its max performance in high-performance mode and 80% with performance mode off.
These aren't exactly the best benchmark numbers but fortunately, the phone performs quite well in real-life usage.
In real-life usage, the phone performs well despite the so-so benchmark scores. Day-to-day stuff like opening apps or switching windows is smooth. Multitasking is also seamless, even with tasks like downloading updates alongside general browsing.
Gaming is also very top-notch and the phone doesn’t get too hot to handle. For extra cooling, the magnetic fan from the kit helps reduce the temperature from 39 to 37 degrees in BGMI and Genshin Impact. However, it's worth noting that since the fan is powered by the phone's internal battery, it does tend to consume a significant amount of battery.
The phone also has a dedicated display chip supporting up to 90 FPS on BGMI at Smooth Extreme+ graphics, running the game with no lags or stutters. Super demanding games like Genshin Impact run on extreme graphics at 60 FPS, and the volume mapping in both games is impressively immersive.
Additionally, the in-built X-Boost Gaming Mode offers quick toggles for Ultra Frame Rate, HDR Graphics, Smart Cooling, and Tilt Control
Infinix GT 20 Pro Software
The GT 20 Pro runs on the latest Android 14-based XOS 14, with promises of up to 2 major Android upgrades and 3 years of security updates.
Thats seems mostly reasonable for a phone at this price point but the really good news is there's no bloatware, apart from the usual Infinix apps, some of which can even be uninstalled.
The setup process is straightforward as well, and doesn’t prompt you to download unnecessary apps. The phone also includes useful features like Peak Proof, Unlock Capture, Smart Hub, Repair Mode, and cool live wallpapers.
Infinix GT 20 Pro Battery and Charging
Battery backup is a strong point for the GT 20 Pro. The 5,000 mAh unit got me through the full day with the 144Hz refresh rate, performance mode, and RGB lighting enabled. The 45W charging speed is respectable but many rivals now offer at least 67W charging.
However, a standout feature is bypass charging, which, like on the Note 40 Pro, directs power to the motherboard instead of the battery, reducing heating issues during gaming.
Infinix GT 20 Pro Camera
The GT 20 Pro features a triple-camera setup on the back: a 108MP main camera with OIS, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth camera. Up front, there's a 32MP selfie camera.
Photos taken with the main camera in 1x and 3x modes are sharp and well-detailed, though they can sometimes be a bit overexposed. The selfie camera shows the same tendency.
At the end of the day, the GT 20 Pro is a gaming phone, so camera performance was never going to be this phone's biggest priority. However, it did a respectable job in that regard too.
Infinix GT 20 Pro Price
The Infinix GT 20 Pro comes in two configurations: 8GB RAM + 256GB storage for Rs 24,999 and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage for Rs 26,999.
Infinix GT 20 Pro Review- Verdict
So, here’s where we address the most important question- should one buy this phone, especially over more powerful options like the Poco X6 Pro and Realme GT 6T at similar prices?
It depends on your priorities. If you want top-notch benchmarks and performance, those might be better choices.
But if you want a feature-packed gaming phone that stands out and costs way less than a high-end gaming phone, the Infinix GT 20 Pro is a very decent option.
