Congress on Saturday slammed the&nbsp;Union government for not realising&nbsp;dearness allowance suspended last year, and demanded&nbsp;immediate&nbsp;payment of arrears.&nbsp;

The Opposition Congress on Saturday accused the Centre of adopting a malevolent approach towards scores of its employees, Army staff and pensioners with regard to the payment of dearness allowance and demanded immediate repayment of arrears.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, &ldquo;This non-payment highlights and underlines the clear hypocrisy and double standard of the government, which speaks in two voices because these figures are undeniable, well-known and universal.&rdquo;
Singhvi&nbsp;further said that on April 23, 2020, the government had kicked the people&rsquo;s stomachs by cutting Rs 37,500 crore, which was admittedly payable as DA by the 7th Pay Commission to 115 lakh army staff, pensioners from the armed forces, and serving employees and pensioners of the Central government.

7th Pay Commission: Salaries of central govt employees may go up 

Central government employees are likely to take home higher salaries from next year. This is because the centre approved a 4% DA hike for its employees in March this year, but put it on hold till July 2021 in April due to the pandemic. Central government employees have been getting DA at the current rate of 17% as part of their salary or pension. However, they are likely to get 21% DA, as per the 7th Pay Commission, from July 2021. Retired individuals will also see a rise in pension.
