A day after BJP leaders spent the night in Delhi&rsquo;s slums as part of an outreach campaign, the AAP accused the saffron party of demolishing slums and removing slum dwellers&rsquo; names from electoral rolls.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal criticized the BJP's efforts, claiming that the party would visit slums, promise support, and then later demolish them. "They will sleep in your jhuggi now and then demolish it after three months," Kejriwal alleged, adding that it was ironic for BJP leaders to visit slums after having destroyed them over the past five years.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi further warned slumdwellers, advising them to be cautious of BJP leaders. She alleged that the slums they visit are later demolished, citing the example of Sundar Nagri and Shahdara&rsquo;s Ambedkar Basti where names of slumdwellers were allegedly deleted from the voters' list.
In response, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor dismissed the accusations, claiming that AAP was making "frivolous" allegations because they had already conceded defeat. He also defended the BJP's outreach program, claiming it was designed to understand slum dwellers' struggles and improve their living conditions through the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).
As the Delhi assembly elections approach in February, the BJP's outreach to slum residents has become a significant political strategy, aiming to expand its influence in areas traditionally dominated by AAP.

Kejriwal, who had lunch with the family members of an auto driver in Kondli constituency, also promised Rs 1 lakh as assistance to the auto drivers for the marriage of their daughters.
The former Delhi chief minister said Rs 2,500 would be given twice yearly as uniform allowance to auto drivers. He also assured their children of free coaching and the relaunching of the &lsquo;PoochO&rsquo; app.
The app allows people to access the database developed by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Model Transit System of registered auto drivers&rsquo; mobile numbers and call them up to book a ride.
The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are due in February next year. The AAP pitted against the BJP and the Congress, is working hard to retain power for a third time in a row.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday said it disagrees with the Delhi High Court order staying the bail granted to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the trial court and will challenge it in the Supreme Court.
The Delhi High Court earlier in the day stayed the trial court order granting bail to Kejriwal in the money laundering case stemming from the alleged excise policy scam in Delhi.
A vacation bench of Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain said the trial court failed to appreciate the material placed before it by the Enforcement Directorate and did not apply its mind while deciding the AAP leader's bail plea.
The judge also said the trial court ought to have given adequate opportunity to the agency to argue its case.
Reacting to the development, the AAP said they will approach the apex court.
"We disagree with the Delhi High Court order. We will challenge it in the Supreme Court," the party said.
The trial court had granted bail to Kejriwal on June 20 and ordered his release on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.
The ED moved the high court the next day and contended that the trial court's order was "perverse", "one-sided" and "wrong-sided" and that the findings were based on irrelevant facts.
The excise policy was scrapped in 2022 after the Delhi lieutenant governor ordered a CBI probe into alleged irregularities and corruption involving its formulation and execution.
According to the CBI and the ED, irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy and undue favours extended to the licence holders.

Meanwhile, the Aam Admi party condemned the act and sought action on the complaint at the earliest.

In a post on X, Bharti said, "Shocked to report that every polling agent of the BJP is carrying candidate pamphlets inside the polling booth and shamelessly displaying the same fearing no one. Sharing video of what I saw inside booth no 134,135,137 and 138 of Assembly Constituency-43."&nbsp;
AAP also shared this on its official handle on X and said that the incident is shameful.
"Shameful!! Election Commission, what is happening right under your nose? BJP's polling agents are openly showing pamphlets inside the polling booth. This matter has come to light in Booth Numbers 134,135,137 and 138 of AC-43. Take appropriate action immediately," it said.
Earlier, AAP leader Atishi alleged that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena, held a meeting with Delhi Police to slow down the voting process in areas that are strongholds of the INDIA bloc.
"We have received official information that last evening, LG had called a meeting of Delhi Police officials and instructions were given to Delhi Police that in all the areas which are strongholds of the INDIA alliance, voting should be slowed down in those areas. If this happens then it will be a violation of free and fair elections.
So we hope that the Election Commission will take cognizance of this," Atishi alleged.

Delhi Police have registered a case after a TV reporter and cameraperson claimed that they were attacked inside the AAP office.&nbsp;
Police said the alleged incident occurred inside the AAP office in Central Delhi's IP Estate on May 20.&nbsp;
FIR has been registered against several unidentified persons under relevant IPC sections pertaining to punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and common intention among others.
The woman reporter, who is believed to be working for the Times Now channel, said that she was allegedly abused and heckled and the cameraperson accompanying her was assaulted inside the AAP office when the latter tried to enter the premises for an interview.&nbsp;
A video of the incident has gone viral that shows AAP&rsquo;s chief media coordinator Vikas Yogi asking the TV crew to not force their way inside the AAP office.&nbsp;
Following the incident, the reporter said that she called the police control room (PCR) and informed them about the incident. A medico-legal case (MLC) was subsequently carried out on the reporter and the cameraperson. After the process, the case was lodged.&nbsp;

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday contended before the Delhi High Court that it will make the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) an accused in the money laundering case stemming out of the Delhi excise policy scam.
The ED's submission was made while opposing the bail plea of former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the money laundering case.
"AAP is going to be made a co-accused in the next prosecution complaint (charge sheet) to be filed in the case," ED's counsel contended before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who is hearing arguments on Sisodia's bail plea.
The probe agency's lawyer further said there are concerted efforts by accused persons to delay the process of framing of charges in the case.
While seeking bail for him, Sisodia's counsel submitted that the ED and the CBI are still arresting people in the money laundering and corruption case and there is no question of early conclusion of the trial.
Further arguments on the bail plea are going on.&nbsp;

The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday claimed the Election Commission has "banned" its Lok Sabha campaign song "Jail Ka Jawab, Vote Se Denge", but officials of the Delhi poll body said AAP was asked to modify the contents of the song since it violated EC's guidelines and advertising codes.
The over two-minute campaign song, penned and sung by AAP MLA Dilip Pandey, was released at the party headquarters here on Thursday.
In a statement, the Delhi Chief Electoral Office said during a review and scrutiny of the advertisement submitted by AAP, the Media Pre Certification Committee headed by Delhi's joint chief electoral officer made certain observations with reference to various provisions and guidelines stipulated by the Election Commission.
"The said creative/advertisement was returned along with the observations with the request to modify the contents of the creative as per the Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994 and ECI guideline/ norms circulated vide letter dated August 24, 2023 and resubmit after modification, for the certification," it said.
The statement said that the party was also informed that in case it does not agree with the decision of the committee, it can file an appeal before the state-level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee.
Earlier, the Delhi poll panel said certain images and phrases are "slanderous" remarks and "criticism of the ruling party on the basis of unverified facts" and also cast aspersions on the judiciary and police.
Addressing a press conference, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader Atishi accused the Election Commission of becoming a "political weapon of the BJP" and turning a blind eye to its violations.
She also asserted that the campaign song does not mention the BJP and does not violate the Model Code of Conduct.
"It includes factual videos and incidents, whether it is the picture of Arvind Kejriwal&rsquo;s arrest, whether it is the video of police&rsquo;s misbehaviour with Manish Sisodia in the Rouse Avenue Court, whether it is the brutal detention of our volunteers in protests, everything is factual.
"Does the EC want to suppress the truth? Does the poll agency want to hide the misconduct of the police or the political misuse of the probe agencies by the BJP?" she asked.
This is the "first time in the history of the country that the Election Commission of India has banned the campaign song of any party to stop the campaign", she alleged.
"This is the same Election Commission which sees nothing when the BJP is making fun of the Model Code of Conduct on a daily basis. But if the AAP leaders even breathe, they are served another notice.
"When the BJP misuses the ED and CBI to put the opposition leaders in jail during the Model Code of Conduct, the EC has no objection to it. But if the AAP even writes about it in a song, the EC raises various objections," she claimed.
Atishi claimed that according to the poll panel, the song "Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se Denge" shows the "ruling party (BJP) and investigation agencies in a bad light".
"The most interesting thing is that throughout the campaign song, there is no mention of the Bharatiya Janata Party&rsquo;s name anywhere, but the Election Commission of India says that &lsquo;if you talk about dictatorship, this is a criticism of the ruling party.&rsquo; "That means the poll body itself believes that the BJP is running a dictatorial rule in this country," she added.
In its reply to AAP over the song, the Delhi Chief Electoral office said the phrase "jail ke jawaab me hum vote denge" contravenes provisions of ECI Guidelines and the Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, sources told PTI.
It said that images showing a crowd carrying Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's photo in which he is behind bars cast aspersions on the judiciary, sources said. It also said some clips showing party workers clashing with police incite violence, while frames showing Manish Sisodia being escorted by police show the latter in a negative light, they said.
The Delhi poll panel said certain phrases are "slanderous" remarks and "criticism of the ruling party on the basis of unverified facts" and also cast aspersions on the judiciary.
Maintaining that her party has done no wrong, Atishi appealed to the poll body "to pay attention to the fact that the BJP is flouting the Model Code of Conduct every day and stop the work of stalling the election campaign of the opposition".
"I really hope that after a few years, the elections of 2024 should not be remembered as the election in which India's democracy ended, in which the Election Commission was not neutral, in which the Election Commission became a political weapon of the BJP," she said.&nbsp;

Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj Sunday alleged that Tihar authorities have now requested a diabetologist from AIIMS in contradiction of their earlier stance of adequate medical facilities for diabetics being present in the prison.
"Yesterday (April 20), the director general (Prisons) wrote to AIIMS, asking for a diabetologist to be posted at Tihar. Kejriwal has been lodged at Tihar for nearly 20 days and they are asking for a diabetologist only now," Bharadwaj said at a press conference here.
"On the one hand, the Tihar administration says they have medical facilities and then, they are writing to AIIMS, asking for a diabetologist," the AAP leader said.
The Tihar administration responded to Bharadwaj's charge and said appropriate senior specialists from AIIMS provided consultation to Kejriwal through video conference on Saturday.
"After a 40-minute detailed consultation, Kejriwal was assured that there was no serious concern and was advised to continue with the prescribed medicines, which will be evaluated and reviewed regularly," a jail official said.
The video conference was organised by the Tihar Jail administration on a request by Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal. Apart from a senior specialist from the hospital, medical officers of Tihar were also on the call.
The AIIMS specialist was provided with a complete record of CGM (Glucose Monitoring Sensor) and details of diet and medicines being taken by Kejriwal.
"Neither the issue of insulin was raised by Kejriwal, nor was it suggested by the doctors," the official added.
At the press conference, however, Bharadwaj reiterated that a "conspiracy" was being hatched to harm Kejriwal in judicial custody.

"There are two sides to it. Arvind Kejriwal says he needs insulin and he needs to consult a doctor. He said he wanted to consult his private doctor over a video call. On the other hand, BJP and Tihar Jail are saying that he is okay and doesn't need insulin. As per them, he's fine," the Delhi minister added.
On Friday, the Tihar jail administration submitted a report to Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena, saying that the chief minister's health was reviewed on April 10 and April 15 by a medicine specialist who advised oral anti-diabetic drugs and it is "incorrect to state that Kejriwal was denied insulin at any point of time" during his treatment.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government's now-scrapped excise policy. He has been lodged in Tihar jail since April 1.&nbsp;

AAP on April 17 launched its "AAP Ka RamRajya" website to showcase the party's concept of "Ram Rajya", saying Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tried to realise the ideals of Lord Ram in the national capital.
The website launch came ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the first phase of which will be held on Friday, and coincided with the Ram Navami festival being celebrated in several parts of the country.
During a joint press conference, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said the website will showcase AAP's concept of "Ram Rajya" as well as the work done by the party's governments.
"Chief Minister Kejriwal accomplished wonderful things -- good schools, mohalla clinics, free water and electricity and free bus rides for women -- in the last 10 years for realising 'Ram Rajya'," Singh said.
This is the first time that Kejriwal is not among his people on Ram Navami, Singh said and alleged that the Delhi chief minister was sent to jail in a "baseless" case on the basis of statements from "false" witnesses.

Reports said Tinu is likely to be the Aam Aadmi Party candidate from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat.

In a setback to the Shiromani Akali Dal ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, former party MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu on Sunday joined the AAP here.
Tinu is likely to be the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat, said party sources.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann welcomed Tinu into the party fold.
Along with Tinu, another Akali leader Gurcharan Singh also joined the AAP.
Tinu, a Dalit leader, was elected MLA from the Adampur assembly constituency in Jalandhar district in 2012 and 2017. He lost the 2022 assembly polls to Congress nominee Sukhwinder Kotli.
He had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat is currently represented by Sushil Rinku, who won it on an AAP ticket in the 2023 bypoll.
Rinku was named the AAP candidate from Jalandhar seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls but he quit the party and joined the BJP.
The BJP has fielded Rinku from the Jalandhar (reserve) constituency.
Speaking to reporters, Tinu said he was impressed by the Mann government's work like free electricity, free treatment at 'Mohalla Clinics' and setting up "good" schools in the state.
"Ever since the AAP came to power, it is working towards the welfare of people, Mohalla Clinics have been set up, over 80 per cent of the people are getting free electricity and jobs are being given on merit," he said.
He thanked Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Mann and AAP MP Sandeep Pathak after joining the party.
Replying to a question, Tinu said he joined without any conditions and would perform whatever role the party gave him.
Tinu claimed that there was an atmosphere of "distrust" in the Sukhbir Singh Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
"There is confusion among the leaders and the workers. People (in SAD) are feeling insecure about the fate of the party. The morale of the party workers is down," he alleged.
Tinu said he worked honestly while he was in the SAD for 16 years.
In a veiled attack on the BJP, Tinu said, "We all know that conspiracies are being hatched to abolish the Constitution. We will have to make our position clear on whether we stand by the Constitution or not." He slammed the BJP-led central government for "misusing" the central agencies to target rival parties.

The minister, at a press conference at the party office here, said the BJP-led central government is &ldquo;attacking our democracy and constitution&rdquo;.
To counter that, we need to be united, Rai said.
"On Sunday, we will be holding a one-day programme -- Samvidhan Bachao, Tanashahi Hatao Divas -- where the AAP workers will gather at party offices in their states and take an oath to save our democracy and constitution," he said.
The event will be held at the party offices in the state capitals across the country, the AAP leader said.
The programme is being held on the advice of Kejriwal. In another message from the jail, Kejriwal had asked AAP MLAs and volunteers to work to ensure that the people of Delhi face no problems, Rai told reporters on Wednesday.
Rai had said that on April 14, all AAP workers across the country will gather in front of posters or photographs of Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, and take a pledge to save the Constitution.
The AAP's national convener Arvind Kejriwal is lodged in Tihar jail in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
Terming the act as misuse of agencies by the central government, the AAP has carried out protests and agitation in Delhi and other parts of the country.

As per the AAP's official website, Vaghela was a member of the National Executive of the Aam Aadmi Party and one of the earliest members to join the party after the India Against Corruption movement.
Originally from Gujarat, he lived in Goa. He headed AAP's disciplinary committee, as per the website.
Vaghela's last rites would be held at the St Inez Crematorium near Panaji later in the day, Naik said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the BJP has been demanding that Kejriwal relinquish the chief minister's post after his arrest in connection with the liquor policy case.
However, the AAP has maintained that he will run the government from ED custody. Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that CM Kejriwal has issued a second order from the ED custody, asking him to address the shortage of medicines and diagnostic tests at mohalla clinics and hospitals in the national capital. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in relation to the excise policy case. &nbsp;The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in framing and implementing the Delhi excise policy 2022, which was later scrapped. While Kejriwal was not named in the FIRs registered by the ED or the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Delhi excise policy case, his name first found a mention in the ED's chargesheet, wherein the agency claimed that he allegedly spoke to one of the main accused, Sameer Mahendru, in a video call and asked him to continue working with co- accused and AAP communications-in-charge Vijay Nair.

An Enforcement Directorate team reached Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence onThursday evening shortly after the high court refused to grant him protection from coercive action in an excise policy-linked money laundering case.
They said the agency team went to Kejriwal's residence to serve him a summons in the case. The team also informed the staff at the chief minister's residence that it has a search warrant, they said.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief had earlier skipped multiple summonses of the agency in the case.
Earlier in the day, a Delhi High Court bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain refused to grant Kejriwal any protection from coercive action in the case.
The bench listed the AAP leader's application for further consideration on April 22 when his main petition challenging the summons is fixed for hearing, and asked the Enforcement Directorate to file its response.
The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped.
AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are in judicial custody in the case.
Kejriwal's name has been mentioned multiple times in the charge sheets filed by the ED. The agency has alleged that the accused were in touch with Kejriwal for formulating the excise policy that resulted in undue benefits to them in return for which they paid kickbacks to the AAP.

Two AAP councillors from Chandigarh who had ditched Arvind Kejriwal's party to join the BJP ahead of mayoral polls returned to the party on Saturday.
Poonam Devi and Neha Musawat were among the three councillors who had joined the BJP last month.
After joining the BJP, Devi had praised PM Narendra Modi and called the AAP "a party of liars".
Interestingly after coming back to AAP, both councillors called their return "ghar wapsi".
The three AAP Chandigarh councillors &mdash; Punam Devi, Neha Musawat, and Gurcharan Kala &mdash; had joined the BJP in February in the presence of party National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, in Delhi.
AAP's Punjab unit shared the development on X, welcoming the two councillors.&nbsp;
"2 AAP councillors - Neha Musawat (Ward No. 19) &amp; Poonam Kumari (Ward No. 16) have joined back the Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of @RajbirGhumanAAP, OSD to Punjab CM and Dr S.S. Ahluwalia, Sah-Prabhari, AAP Chandigarh."

The BJP had 14 councillors in the 35-member Chandigarh Municipality, before three AAP councillors dejected the party.
Last week, BJP had won both senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor after the Supreme Court in a landmark verdict nullified the earlier mayoral elections after returning officer Anil Masih was found defacing the ballots.
Notably, the votes of Devi and Musawat were the deciding factor in BJP achieving victory as its strength in municipal corporation went up from 14 to 17 after the entry of the three AAP councillors. The Congress and the AAP, who were fighting the election together, also had 17.&nbsp;
The BJP's Kuljeet Singh Sandhu was elected senior deputy mayor after bagging 19 votes as opposed to the 16 polled by the Congress' Gurpreet Gabim, and one vote had been declared invalid. Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, who is a BJP member, has voting rights in the corporation and one of the councillors is from the Shiromani Akali Dal.

The Supreme Court on Monday granted the Aam Aadmi Party time till June 15, 2024 to vacate its offices at Rouse Avenue after noting that the land was allotted to the Delhi High Court for expanding judicial infrastructure.
A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra asked AAP to approach Land And Development Office for allotment of land for its offices.
"We would request the L&amp;DO to process the application and communicate its decision within a period of four weeks," the bench said, adding AAP has no lawful right to continue on the land.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the city's ruling party, submitted that AAP is one of the six national parties in the country.
"They are telling us as a national party we get nothing. I'm given Badarpur, while everyone else is in better places," Singhvi said.
"In view of the impending general elections, we gant time until June 15, 2024 to vacate the premises so that land allotted to expand the district judiciary's footprint can be utilised on expeditious basis," the court said.
The top court had earlier directed the Delhi government and the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court to hold a meeting for removal of encroachment by AAP on the land allotted to the HC at Rouse Avenue.&nbsp;

PTI news agency reported that AAP's Gurpreet Singh was shot dead near the railway crossing between Fatehbad and Goindwal Sahib. &nbsp;The assailants, who had been following him, opened indiscriminate fire on his car and fled the spot. This comes a month after another local AAP leader Sonu Cheema was shot dead at a saloon in the Jhabal area of Tarn Taran district.
