Haryana CM said that the government will provide interest-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh to those Agniveers who want to set up their businesses.

Months ahead of the assembly polls, Haryana's BJP government announced Wednesday a 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers in the recruitment of constables, forest guards and jail wardens, along with quotas in other posts.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also said that the government will provide interest-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh if any Agniveer wishes to set up their own business.
"In direct recruitment to posts of constable, mining guard, forest guard, jail warden and special police officer made by the state government, there will be a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers," He said at a press conference here.
He said that in Group C and D posts, an age relaxation of three years will also be given. "However, for the first batch of Agniveers, this age relaxation will be five years," Saini added.
In direct recruitment for Group C civil posts, there will be a five per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers, the chief minister said.
He also announced sops for industrial units employing Agniveers. "If any industrial unit employs an Agniveer at a salary of more than Rs 30,000 per month, then our government will give that unit an annual subsidy of Rs 60,000," Saini said.
He also announced that Agniveers will get arms licences on priority.
The Agnipath military recruitment scheme, introduced by the BJP government at the Centre in June 2022 for short-term induction of personnel in the armed forces, has faced severe criticism from several quarters, including opposition parties.
In the run-up to the recently held Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had said in Haryana's Mahendragarh that the Agniveer scheme would be scrapped and thrown in the dustbin if the opposition INDIA bloc came to power.
Soon after the scheme was announced by the Centre in June 2022, the then-chief minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar had said the state government would provide guaranteed employment to Agniveers after their four-year stint in the armed forces.
The Agnipath scheme provides for recruiting youths between the age bracket of 17-and-half years and 21 for four years with a provision to retain 25 per cent of them for 15 more years.

Addressing the first batch of Agniveers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asserted that Agnipath, a short-term military employment scheme, is a transformative policy and a game changer in strengthening the armed forces and making them future-ready.
A statement said Modi, in his virtual address, congratulated them on being the pioneers of this "path-breaking" scheme which, he noted, will further empower women. He said the young Agniveers will make the armed forces more youthful and tech-savvy.

The prime minister said new India is filled with renewed vigour and efforts are underway to modernise the armed forces as well as make them 'aatmanirbhar' (self-reliant). In the 21st century, the way wars are fought is changing, he said, speaking about the new fronts of contactless warfare and challenges of cyber warfare.
Lauding their potential, he said their spirit is reflective of the bravery of the armed forces which has always kept the flag of the nation flying high. The experience they will acquire through this opportunity will be a source of pride for life, he added.
"Hailing the potential of youth and Agniveers, Prime Minister concluded by saying that they are the ones who are going to provide leadership to the nation in the 21st century," the statement quoting Modi said.

He said Agnipath will further empower women and expressed happiness at how women Agniveers are adding pride to naval forces.
The prime minister said he looks forward to seeing women Agniveers in all three forces, noting that they are leading armed forces on various fronts and cited examples of women posted in Siachen and driving modern fighter planes.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present at the interaction.
Under the Agnipath scheme, announced on June 14 last year, the three services are recruiting youths between the age bracket of 17-and-half years and 21 years for four years with a provision to retain 25 per cent of them for 15 more years.
For 2022, the upper age limit was raised to 23 years.
Opposition parties have criticised the exercise but the government has said it will make the armed forces more youthful and cater to its current needs.
In his speech, Modi told the recruits that getting posted in different regions will give them an opportunity to get diverse experiences and they should try to learn different languages, cultures and ways of living.
He said that teamwork and the honing of leadership skills will add a new dimension to their personality. He exhorted Agniveers to remain curious about learning new things while simultaneously working on bettering their skills in the fields of their choice.

At present, there is vertical and horizontal reservation in all paramilitary forces for candidates from Scheduled Castes at 15%, Scheduled Tribes at 7.5%, Other Backward Classes at 27%, Economically Weaker Sections at 10%, and ex-servicemen at 10%.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday while responding to a question by MP John Brittas. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in a written reply that &ldquo;an in-principle approval has been given for reservation of 10% of vacancies for ex-Agniveers in the recruitment to the post of Constable (General Duty)/Rifleman in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles.&rdquo; &nbsp;
He further said, &ldquo;10% horizontal reservation is decided to be given to Ex-Agniveers for the post of Constable(GD)/Rifleman when the first batch of Ex-Agniveers is available for recruitment after completing engagement period of four years in Defence Forces.&rdquo;&nbsp;
At present, there is a provision for vertical and horizontal reservation in openings in all paramilitary forces with conditions for candidates from Scheduled Castes at 15 percent, Scheduled Tribes at 7.5 percent, Other Backward Classes at 27 percent, Economically Weaker Sections at 10 percent, and ex-servicemen at 10 percent.
Under vertical reservation, candidates from SC, ST, and OBC are covered, and ex-servicemen get horizontal reservation. While horizontal reservation cuts across the vertical, the latter can&rsquo;t be interlocked.&nbsp;
While Agniveers will be eligible for horizontal, their reservation will also cover all classes in addition to their service in the armed forces.
