<p>Imagine flying first class and getting your entire fare refunded without even filing an official complaint!<br><br>That&rsquo;s exactly what happened to Anip Patel, an Indian-American CEO, after sharing his &lsquo;worst first-class cabin&rsquo; experience on Air India. <br><br>In his viral Instagram video, Patel highlighted the issues with his Chicago to Delhi flight, and Air India responded by refunding his entire ticket.&nbsp;</p>
<p>"I had heard negative things about Air India in the past, but I was hoping the recent changes under new management would improve the experience &mdash; unfortunately, that wasn&rsquo;t the case," he stated. The video quickly garnered attention, amassing 6.9 million views, 97,100 likes, and over 8,700 comments since its posting.<br><br><br></p>

<p>Despite not filing a formal complaint, Patel received a refund from the airline. On September 18, he shared that Air India had contacted him directly after his video went viral on social media.</p>
<p>&ldquo;I did not file any complaint with @airindia, but through social media, they saw this video &mdash; they called me today and refunded my entire flight,&rdquo; Patel said in a comment on his Post. &ldquo;They did make it right, and it's worth noting,&rdquo; he added, acknowledging the airline's prompt action to rectify his unpleasant travel experience.</p>

<h3><strong>Air India&rsquo;s New Planes</strong></h3>
<p>Shankar Sharma also talked about the new planes in detail in the comments section of his post. Responding to an X user&rsquo;s query on whether these were new planes or repurposed planes on wet lease, Sharma wrote, &ldquo;As far as I know, these are new Airbus planes acquired by Air India directly, purpose designed, and not under a wet lease.&rdquo;</p>
<h3><strong>Air India&rsquo;s Mega Aircraft Order</strong></h3>
<p>Remember, in February 2023, Air India had placed two mega orders with aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing. The Tata group-owned airline had ordered 250 aircraft from Europe-based Airbus and 220 planes from the United States-based Boeing.<br>At the time, it was the biggest aircraft order in aviation history&mdash;a record which was soon broken by another Indian carrier, Indigo. Later, in December 2023, Air India changed the configuration of its order given to Airbus.</p>

<p>Air India has also been in the news recently for the proposed Vistara merger. In the last week of August 2024, the Indian government approved Singapore Airlines&rsquo; FDI proposal for the Air India-Vistara merger. <p>The Xpress Lite Fare starts at Rs 883 for members booking on airindiaexpress.com and the Air India Express mobile app for bookings made till 28th June for travel until 30th September 2024. Meanwhile, the Xpress Value fares start at Rs 1,096 on other booking channels.</p>
<p>Along with this users booking on airindiaexpress.com can also get exclusive access to the recently launched zero check-in baggage Xpress Lite fares with special discounts. The Xpress Lite fares also provide an option to pre-book an additional 3 kg of cabin baggage at no fee and a discounted fee for check-in baggage at Rs 1000 for 15 kg on domestic flights and Rs 1300 for 20 kg on international flights.</p>

Junior first officers, however, will not receive a hike in their monthly fixed pay.</p>
<p>The performance bonuses will be distributed annually, contingent upon meeting performance expectations. Junior first officers will receive an annual bonus of Rs 42,000, while first officers and commanders will get Rs 60,000. Commanders and senior commanders will receive Rs 1.32 lakh and Rs 1.80 lakh, respectively.</p>
<h3><strong>Air India's transformation plan</strong></h3>
<p>Air India, currently undergoing a five-year transformation plan known as Vihaan.AI, aims to foster a performance-driven and meritocratic culture. The airline, with approximately 18,000 employees, is focused on competitive salary increments to attract and retain talent. Last year, the company restructured compensation and contracts for legacy employees but did not conduct appraisals.</p>
<p>As part of its transformation, Air India is also simplifying its compensation structure to be more market-competitive and productivity-oriented. The Vihaan.AI plan outlines the airline's strategic vision and growth objectives, with significant milestones achieved in the past year laying a strong foundation for future growth.</p>
<p>Air India operates as part of a larger group that includes Air India Express, AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India), and Vistara, with ongoing mergers within the group to streamline operations.</p>

<p>A 40-year-old jewel thief was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport for being involved in a series of thefts on at least 200 flights. Rajesh Kapoor allegedly stole many valuables from handbags of co-passengers by mainly targeting elderly women. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The Delhi Police said the accused has travelled for more than 110 days during the past year to commit the thefts, and he used to assume the identity of his deceased brother, Rishi Kapoor. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The arrest came after a passenger lost her jewellery worth ₹7 lakh while travelling from Hyderabad to Delhi on an Air India flight. In another theft, the accused slunk a passenger&rsquo;s jewellery items worth ₹ 20 lakh in a flight from Amritsar to Delhi.&nbsp;</p>
<p>At a press conference at the IGI airport in New Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani said Kapoor had been arrested from Paharganj, where he allegedly kept the stolen jewellery. He was planning to sell them to Sharad Jain, 46, who had also been arrested from Karol Bagh.&nbsp;</p>
<p>CCTV footage from Delhi and Amritsar airports and the flight manifests were analysed, and police found the suspect present on both flights on which theft incidents were reported. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The officer said the phone number of the accused was obtained from the airlines concerned, but he had provided a fake number at the time of booking. After technical surveillance, Kapoor's original phone number was traced, and he was caught.&nbsp;</p>
<p>After interrogation, Kapoor disclosed that he spent most of the cash on online and offline gambling. He was found involved in 11 cases of theft, gambling and criminal breach of trust, out of which five cases were of airport.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Another police officer said Kapoor would target vulnerable passengers, particularly elderly women.<br>&nbsp;<br>"Recognising the tendency of such passengers to carry valuables in their handbags, he strategically travelled in premium domestic flights, notably Air India and Vistara, bound for destinations like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Hyderabad," the officer said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The officer said exploiting the chaos of boarding, he would secretly rifle through overhead cabins, carefully assessing and stealing valuables from unsuspecting victims' handbags while passengers settled into their seats.&nbsp;</p>
<p>On several occasions, after zeroing in on its target, he even got his seat changed from the airline to sit near the target, said the officer. &nbsp;</p>
<p>According to TOI, the 40-year-old man had been allegedly operating since 2005. For many years, he allegedly stole from passengers in AC coaches of trains. Later, he switched to flights.</p>

<p>Amid the ongoing crisis of flight cancellation and delays, Air India Express has announced a Whatsapp number for passengers to claim refunds. This comes, after the airline terminated 25 cabin crew members and announced the cancellation of 85 flights on Thursday.&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>Refund for cancelled flights</strong></h3>
<p>As per Air India Express, passengers can opt for full refund or reschedule to a later date without any fees if their flight is cancelled, or delayed beyond three hours. Passengers can also opt for rescheduling to a later date without any fees on Tia which empowers the airline's customer care.</p>
<p>"If their flight is cancelled, or delayed beyond 3 hours, they may opt for a full refund or reschedule to a later date without any fees on Tia on WhatsApp (+91 6360012345) or on airindiaexpress.com," the official statement of Air India Express said.</p>
<p>In a statement issued by the Air India Express spokesperson, the airline expressed its commitment to minimizing inconvenience caused to passengers amidst the unexpected situation.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Air India Express is making every possible effort to minimise the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected situation. We will be operating 283 flights today. We have mobilised all resources and Air India will support us by operating on 20 of our routes. However, 85 of our flights stand cancelled and we urge our guests booked to fly with us to check if their flight is affected by the disruption before heading to the airport," said the spokesperson</p>
<p>The statement further added that the airline is constantly engaging with the cabin crew to address the concerns raised, while taking appropriate steps against certain employees whose actions have caused inconvenience to the passengers.</p>
<p>"While we will continue to engage with our cabin crew colleagues with a commitment to address any concern, we are taking appropriate steps against certain individuals as their actions have caused grave inconvenience to thousands of our guests", the statement mentioned.</p>
<p>The airline has also advised the passengers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport to avoid any inconvenience. A mass sick leave called in by the cabin crew has lead to cancellation of over 80 flights. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has intervened, directing the airline to follow DGCA rules and provide prompt assistance to stranded passengers.</p>

<p>Passengers of Air India Express found themselves stranded for the second consecutive day as flights scheduled to various destinations from Kerala airports were unexpectedly cancelled, leaving travellers frustrated and inconvenienced.&nbsp;<br><br>Meanwhile, as per a report by Financial Express, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has sought a report from the airline regarding the slew of cancellations and has asked the airline to resolve the issue immediately. This comes after over 90 flights were cancelled by Air India express over the past two days after cabin crew called in sick to protest against alleged mismanagement.&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>Air India Express flights cancelled</strong></h3>
<p>Disappointment swept through Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kannur airports as flights to Gulf nations were abruptly called off at the last minute.</p>
<p>Expressing their dismay, passengers recounted promises made by the airline, only to be let down. "I was assured by Air India Express yesterday that I can travel to Qatar on Thursday. But they did not keep their promise. I was told at the last moment that my flight has been cancelled again for the second consecutive day," voiced an aggrieved passenger at Karipur airport in Kozhikode.</p>
<p>Another passenger, facing the looming expiration of his work visa, recounted being given assurances for a flight the following day after yesterday's cancellation, only to find himself in the same predicament. "When I arrived here (Thiruvananthapuram airport), the airline told me that the flight was cancelled. If I do not reach my place of work by tonight, my visa will expire and I will lose my job," he lamented.</p>
<p>Amid the chaos, passengers sought alternatives, with one expressing frustration over the lack of assistance from the airline. "Why can't they help us get tickets on another airline? Let them charge us for that," he demanded.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Air India in a statement has mentioned that it will operate 20 flights on AI Express routes to minimise the disruptions.</p>
<h3><strong>Cabin crew terminated</strong></h3>
<p>In response to the mass cancellations, Air India Express took drastic measures, issuing termination letters to around 25 cabin crew members who reported sick, allegedly leading to the cancellation of more than 90 flights. The Tata Group-owned airline also issued an ultimatum to remaining cabin crew members, demanding their return to duty by 4 pm on Thursday or face termination.</p>
<p>The airline cited the non-availability of cabin crew as the cause for canceling at least 60 flights on Thursday, attributing the situation to mass leaves by a section of the cabin crew, which has resulted in immense inconvenience to passengers.</p>

<p>"Air India flights to and from Tel Aviv will remain suspended until 30th April 2024, in view of the emerging situation in the Middle East. We are continuously monitoring the situation," an airline spokesperson said in a statement.</p>
<p>The airline is offering one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges for passengers who have confirmed bookings for travel to and from Tel Aviv during this period.</p>
<p>On Sunday, the carrier decided to temporarily suspend its flights to Tel Aviv.</p>
<p>Tensions have escalated in the Middle East in the wake of attacks by Iran on Israel and the response in retaliation.</p>
<p>The Tata group-owned carrier had recommenced the services to the Israeli city on March 3, after nearly five months.</p>
<p>Air India had suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv starting from October 7, 2023, after the Hamas group's attack on the Israeli city.</p>

First telling her the seat doesn&rsquo;t recline, then saying the seat is for the crew and then she finds someone else sitting there as she is sent to economy?"&nbsp;</p>
<p>Air India reacted to her post and said that they are investigating the matter on priority with their airport team.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Later, the woman shared an update that the airline offered to compensate her with 75% of the fare and an upgrade voucher.&nbsp; However, the woman shared that it was not about money as the issue still remains that a passenger was given her mother's seat. Internet users agreed with the woman, suggesting to file a complaint with the Consumer Forum.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Maharashtra government bought the Air India building at Nariman Point in Mumbai for ₹1,601 crore.</p>
<p>"GoI has approved transfer of Air India building, Mumbai of AI Assets Holding Company Ltd (AIAHL) to Government of Maharashtra (GoM) at consideration of ₹1601 cr. GoM has agreed to waive dues of ₹298.42 cr, which would have been otherwise payable by AIAHL to GoM for this transaction," DIPAM Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey said in a post on X.<br><br><strong>What's AIAHL?</strong></p>
<p>AIAHL, a Government of India company under administrative control of Ministry of Civil Aviation, was set up in 2019 for holding non-core assets and debt of Air India.</p>
<p>The non-core assets of Air India, including land and building, valued at ₹14,718 crore were transferred to AIAHL after it was set up by the government as a precursor to the sale of Air India for holding the debt and non-core assets of the then national carrier.<br><br><strong>Tatas bought the airline in 2022</strong></p>
<p>The government had on January 27, 2022, transferred ownership in Air India to the Tata Group which had in October 2021, put in a ₹18,000 crore bid for buying Air India.</p>
<p><strong>Iconic building, now office space</strong></p>
<p>Constructed in 1974 on a land owned by the state government, the building will now be used by it as its office space. Nearly 46,470 square meters of space will be available for government offices in the 23-storey building.</p>
<p>After the 2012 fire at Mantralaya, the state secretariat building in south Mumbai, four major departments -- public health, medical education, water supply and sanitation, and rural development -- have been operating from GT Hospital. These departments, along with others, may be shifted to the Air India building.</p>

<p>The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has slapped Air India with Rs 30 lakh fine over 80-year-old passenger's death. On February 12th, the passenger collapsed and died after walking from the aircraft to the airport terminal at Mumbai due to the non-availability of a wheel-chair.</p>
<h3><strong>Fine for Air India</strong></h3>
<p>According to media reports, an octogenarian Air India passenger had requested for a wheelchair at the Mumbai airport. However, he decided to walk as he was asked to wait due to heavy demand for wheelchair, died after collapsing at the time of immigration process.</p>
<p>Following this, the DGCA issued a show-cause notice to Air India, demanding a response within seven days. After reviewing the response, the regulator found Air India guilty and imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh.</p>
<p>Air India had said that the passenger's wife had been provided a wheelchair and staff had asked him to wait while they arranged another one. But he instead chose to walk to the terminal with his wife.</p>
<p>"One of our guests flying from New York to Mumbai on 12th February fell ill while proceeding to clear immigration with his wife, who was in a wheelchair. Due to heavy demand for wheelchairs, we had requested the passenger to wait till he was also provided with wheelchair assistance but he opted to walk along with his spouse," Air India said</p>
<p>DGCA on examination had found that Air India had not complied with the norms which specifically addresses the "Carriage by Air - Persons with Disability (Divyangjan) and/or Persons with Reduced Mobility." This failure to adhere to the regulations outlined in Aircraft Rules, 1937, prompted the fine on the airline.</p>
<p>The DGCA added that Air India did not inform authorities about any action taken by the airline against the erring employee(s) and the airline also failed to submit any corrective actions taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.</p>
<p>The regulator has also &nbsp;issued an advisory to all airlines to ensure that an adequate number of wheelchairs are available for passengers who require assistance during embarking or disembarking from the aircraft during their journey.</p>
<p>Air India has also said that it is in constant touch with the family members of the bereaved and is extending necessary assistance. It also added that that it has a clearly laid down policy to offer wheelchair assistance to all passengers who pre-book the same.</p>
<p>In the past 12 months, DGCA has fined Air India 9 times of around Rs 4 crore. Earlier, the airline was fined Rs 1.10 crore over allegations of safety violations of flights on certain long-range terrain critical routes.</p>

<p>Long waits for claiming your luggage at Indian airports may soon be a thing of the past. Observing mainstream commercial airlines in the country, the civil aviation authorities said passengers should receive their luggage within 10-30 minutes of engine shutdown.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Major commercial airlines like Air India, Vistara and IndiGo were asked to implement the directive by February 26.</p>
<p>The decision was made after India&rsquo;s Bureau of Civil Aviation Security took note of at least 3600 commercial flights belonging to seven airlines. The monitoring exercise was carried out at six major airports in the country.</p>
<p>&ldquo;During the year 2022, scheduled domestic airlines operated a total number of 9.43 lakh scheduled flights carrying a total of 123.2 million scheduled passengers as against 7.31 lakh scheduled flights carrying total of 82.74 million scheduled passengers during the<br>previous year 2021,&rdquo; an annual report from the Ministry of Civil Aviation said.</p>
<p>The Bureau of Civil Aviation has warned that airlines which fail to comply with the new rule by the deadline will face &ldquo;further regulatory action.&rdquo;</p>

<p>A 30-year-old crew member of Air India was allegedly shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants near a market in Noida Friday, police said.</p>
<p>An official told PTI that the alleged murder could be a fallout of a gang rivalry involving the family of the deceased, who has been identified as Suraj Mann.</p>
<p>The incident took place in Sector 104 here when the Mann came out of a gym and sat in his car, they added.</p>
<p>DCP Noida Harish Chander said the Sector 39 police station was alerted about the incident at around 2.30 pm and a team was rushed to the crime spot.</p>
<p>"The man was taken to a nearby hospital but he did not survive," Chander said.</p>
<p>Mann, who worked as a crew member with Air India, lived as a tenant in the posh Lotus Panache society nearby, according to the police.</p>
<p>"The body has been sent for post-mortem and the man's family is being contacted," the DCP said.</p>
<p>He said an investigation has been launched into the case and efforts are underway to identify the accused.</p>
<p>A few members of Mann's family allegedly have a criminal history but he was not part of any acts of crime, according to sources.</p>
<p>The alleged murder could be a fallout of a gang rivalry involving the family, the official said.</p>
<p>"Mann's elder brother is accused in a murder case and currently lodged in a jail in Delhi. The police suspects the rival gang targeted Mann because of his family connections," he said.</p>
<p>The police are also investigating the gang rivalry angle in the case, he added.</p>

<p>CNBC-TV18 reported that a senior official at the DGCA told them that the incident is being investigated to ascertain the cause of the fire warning.</p>

<p>An Air India official told the outlet that Kumar&rsquo;s family will be given all possible assistance. The official also informed Kumar&rsquo;s father was also a senior commander for Air India.</p>

<p>Passengers travelling on Air India flights from airports in the national capital and Punjab will be subject to additional checks, and issuance of visitor entry tickets has been stopped at the Delhi airport till November 30 amid increased threat perception, according to sources.</p>
<p>Apart from the issuance of temporary airport entry passes, entry of visitors to the terminal building of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) have been banned till November 30, they added.</p>
<p>The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) issued a circular in this regard on Monday.</p>
<p>There will be a Secondary Ladder Point Check for Air India flights at the IGIA and airports in Punjab, the sources said. Generally, it refers to checking passengers and their hand baggage just before boarding a flight. This is in addition to the primary security checks.</p>
<p>There was no comment from Air India.</p>
<p>With respect to temporary airport entry passes at the Delhi airport, there will be relaxation for operational purposes for government functionaries, &nbsp;the sources said.</p>
<p>The measures will be in place till November 30.</p>
<p>According to reports, a separatist group has asked people not to travel on Air India flights on November 19.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He also thanked India for its 100% support to Israel in its anti-terror operations against Hamas, at an interaction with journalists.</p>

The competition featured participation from 27 business schools.</p>

<p>Air India has been undergoing a five-year transformation journey under the Tata Group.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Suresh Dutt Tripathi, Chief Human Resources Officer of Air India, highlighted that the airline is actively reimagining its role in the aviation sector.</p>
<p>"Air India is actively reimagining its role in the aviation sector, and our journey to top campuses in the country is more than just a recruitment drive... SOAR is a platform which benefits industry, academia and students simultaneously&rdquo;, Tripathi said.</p>
<p>This talent acquisition method comes after Air India placed an order for 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing whose deliveries are set to begin in November this year.&nbsp;</p>
