Stubble burning: Centre tells SC comprehensive law on pollution soon

The Supreme Court Monday kept in abeyance its October 16 order&nbsp;appointing a one-man panel&nbsp;of retired apex court judge Justice Madan B Lokur to check the menace of stubble burning. A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde passed the order while considering the Centre&rsquo;s stand that it is coming out with comprehensive legislation to deal with air pollution, including the aspect of stubble burning. The bench in response to the Centre said that the&nbsp;only issue is people are choking because of pollution and it is something which must be curbed. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that the Centre has taken a &ldquo;holistic view&rdquo; of the matter and the draft of the proposed law on curbing pollution would be submitted before the apex court within four days.

Compound interest waiver: SC questions Centre's affidavit

The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned its hearing on the issue of waiving compound interest on repayment of loans up to Rs 2 crore. The apex court said several issues are not addressed in the Centre's plan on waiving compound interest on loan repayments. SC has given one&nbsp;week to all stakeholders to reply to Centre's affidavit. The case has now been listed for next hearing on October 13.
On Friday, the Center told the top court that it would waive the compound interest component on small businesses and some other loans related to education and housing, and credit card dues to help borrowers. A group of petitioners had sought a waiver of interest on deferred EMIs, or interest on interest during the six-month moratorium period.
Apex body of private real estate developers, CREDAI&rsquo;s counsel Kapil Sibal sought a few days to reply to the government's affidavit explaining its stance, adding that a lot of government&rsquo;s facts and figure are without any basis.

Ever since actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra home on June 14th, his family members have pressed several charges against his girlfriend and actor Rhea Chakraborty. The most grave being 'abetment&nbsp;of suicide charge' pressed against her by the late actor's father.
Sushant&rsquo;s family has repeatedly claimed that Rhea barred them from meeting the late actor and gave him medicines at her own.
Directed by the Supreme Court to probe the death case The CBI is currently questioning Rhea and her whole family. According to the latest statement given by three officials of the CBI team, no proof of murder could so far be found.
&nbsp;Abetment to suicide is a serious offence and is punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment. However, various judgments of the Supreme Court and high courts in the past have shown that it is very difficult to prove such a case.
The apex court holds that there needs to be a clear line between abetment as &ldquo;urging&rdquo; or &ldquo;incitement&rdquo; and the act of suicide itself. In some cases, repeated provocation and harassment was also not enough for a conviction.

Since&nbsp;Sushant Singh Rajput's&nbsp;death on June 14th, his family has accused his girlfriend and actor Rhea Chakraborty&nbsp;of being guilty. Among&nbsp;many other&nbsp;charges, Sushant's&nbsp;father has also accused her of&nbsp;'abetment&nbsp;to suicide'.
Directed by the Supreme Court to probe the actor's death, the&nbsp;CBI&nbsp;which has been questioning Rhea and her family for days now, has reportedly found no proof of murder so far. With the murder charge reportedly&nbsp;becoming almost impossible to prove for the Central probe agency, the road ahead for the CBI&nbsp;could be uphill as many court judgments reveal that it is very difficult to prove&nbsp;'abetment&nbsp;to suicide' charge.&nbsp;
The apex court has stated that there needs to be a clear line between abetment as 'urging' or 'incitement' and the act of suicide itself. In some cases, repeated provocation and harassment was also not enough for the courts to convict an accused.
