Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 2025, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal unveiled the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana, a scheme aimed at providing monthly financial assistance to women in the national capital. Under this initiative, eligible women will receive ₹1,000 each month, with Kejriwal promising an increase to ₹2,100 if AAP retains power in the upcoming elections.
The announcement, made on December 12, 2024, comes as part of the AAP's campaign to appeal to women voters. The scheme, approved by the Delhi Cabinet, was first proposed during the Delhi Budget for 2024-25. The government has allocated ₹2,000 crore for the initiative, which is expected to benefit approximately 38 lakh women out of the 67 lakh women voters in the city.
Eligibility Criteria and Rollout
To qualify for the scheme, women must meet the following criteria:

<li>Have an annual income of ₹2.50 lakh or less.</li>
<li>Be between the ages of 18 and 60 years.</li>

Kejriwal emphasized that women can now register for the scheme, with payments expected to begin after the election. While the financial assistance will initially be ₹1,000, the Chief Minister assured that it would rise to ₹2,100 per month if AAP wins another term.
Political Context and Election Strategy
The announcement comes as the AAP seeks to secure a third consecutive term in Delhi after winning 67 seats in the 2015 elections and 63 seats in 2020. The party's popularity has largely been attributed to its focus on welfare schemes, including healthcare and education.
However, the Mahila Samman Yojana has faced some hurdles. The Finance Department had previously raised concerns over budgetary constraints, but Kejriwal remains optimistic about its successful implementation. He also took a swipe at opposition parties, stating that the rollout of the scheme had been delayed due to political challenges, adding, "I wanted to roll out this scheme earlier, but they put me in jail."
With the assembly elections looming, the announcement of the Mahila Samman Yojana is expected to boost AAP&rsquo;s appeal among women voters, a crucial demographic in the upcoming elections.

The man, identified as Raghav Kumar Tiwari, was dressed in the attire of a lawyer and was taken to nearby police station for questioning, they said.
While the mediapersons stood outside gate number 5, Tiwari approached them staging protest against Kejriwal. He was also carrying a beer bottle, a police officer said.
He was immediately overpowered by the security personnel and shoved in the police van, the officer said.
The man was taken to the IP Estate Police station, where he revealed his identity as Raghav Kumar Tiwari and claimed he is an advocate by profession, according to the officer.
Tiwari, a resident of Ghaziabad, was detained under 65 Delhi Police Act but later allowed to go after a warning, officer said.

So far, inquiries have been conducted against me in more than 50 cases in the last eight years." "It was said that Kejriwal committed scam in building schools, bus scam, liquor scam, road scam, water scam, electricity scam. I may have faced the maximum number of inquiries in the world. Welcome this new inquiry. Nothing was found in any case. Nothing will be found in this also. What will you get when there is nothing wrong?" he said.
Earlier in the day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari at a press conference here said the CBI probe would disclose the facts related to the tendering process of Kejriwal's residence.

Launching a scathing attack on the opposition for joining hands against the central government's move to bring the bill, Shah predicted that once the bill is passed, the opposition alliance will collapse.

The Safdarjung observatory, the city's primary weather station, recorded 153 mm rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, the highest since the 24-hour rainfall of 169.9 mm on July 25, 1982, a senior IMD official said.

He further said that if parties collectively vote against the Bill to be tabled in the parliament on Central Ordinance, and BJP fails to get it clear, it will be more like semi-final for the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.&nbsp;

As per India Today, the Centre has established the National Capital Service Authority through an ordinance. The body will make recommendations to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor regarding matters concerning transfer posting, vigilance and other incidental matters.

The top court said that the Delhi government, and not the Lieutenant Governor, has legislative and executive powers over administrative services.

In a major boost for the Aam Aadmi Party, the Supreme Court on May 11, 2023, ruled that the Delhi government has control over the posting and transfer of officers.
A 5-judge constitution bench of the top court said that the Delhi government, and not the Lieutenant Governor, has legislative and executive powers over administrative services.
It refused to agree with the 2019 judgement of Justice Ashok Bhushan that the city government has no power over the issue of services.
The bench, which also comprised Justices M R Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli and P S Narasimha, said democracy and federal structure are part of the basic structure of the Constitution.
The constitution bench was set up to hear the legal issue concerning the scope of legislative and executive powers of the Centre and the National Capital Territory government over control of services in Delhi.&nbsp;
