Assam will have a USD 143 billion economy by 2030, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Tuesday, urging investors to join the state's growth trajectory.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day 'Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit' here, Sarma emphasised that the state has emerged from being the "most disturbed" to the "most peaceful" now.
"The state's GDP growth this year will be 15.2 per cent. The economy will reach USD 143 billion by 2030," he claimed.
"I can assure you today that we will ensure the best working and congenial atmosphere for establishing industries in Assam. Please come and invest here," Sarma said, in the presence of heads of missions and ambassadors of over 60 nations, foreign business delegations and industry leaders of the country.
The state has seen a resurgence since 2014, when the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power at the Centre, he said.
"After Independence, Assam's economy started to decline as trade links were disrupted. Our only mode of connectivity was through the 'chicken's neck'. For decades, Assam witnessed agitation and insurgency. After 2014, Assam was reborn under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. Once the most disturbed state, Assam became one of the most peaceful states," he added.
Sarma said the Modi government at the Centre has been encouraging all states to attract investments.
"The PM encourages competitive federalism and that is why he had attended seven business summits in different states since taking over as the prime minister for the third term so that all states join the growth trajectory together," he said.

The chances of the survival of the eight others appear grim, though a team of navy, army, NDRF and SDRF personnel intensified their efforts to rescue the trapped miners, they said.
The labourers were on Monday trapped inside the coal mine situated in the 3 Kilo area of Umrangso, after a sudden gush of water flooded the site.
The divers located the body inside the mine early in the morning and its identity was yet to be ascertained, the officials said.

Kaziranga National Park has seen an extraordinary surge in tourist arrivals, achieving its highest visitor count in two decades. According to an official report to PTI, the park has welcomed 1,64,636 visitors since its seasonal opening in October 2024.&nbsp;
The park has generated a revenue of ₹43,226,225 from entry fees, underscoring its status as a prime destination for wildlife and nature enthusiasts. Traditionally open from October to May, the park then closes for the monsoon season.
In October 2024, Kaziranga saw 30,058 tourists, a significant jump from the 17,271 visitors the previous year. The numbers continued to rise through November, with 53,367 visitors, compared to 35,006 in 2023. By December, the park welcomed 81,211 tourists, up from 65,139 the previous year.
These figures not only demonstrate the park&rsquo;s growing appeal but also emphasize the importance of ensuring the safety of both visitors and the park's wildlife as tourism continues to increase. Eight more people lost their lives as the flood situation in Assam remained grim on Sunday, an official bulletin said.
Two deaths each were reported from Dhubri and Nalbari, and one each from Cachar, Goalpara, Dhemaji and Sivsagar, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin said.
With this, the toll in this year's flood, landslide and storm increased to 78.
Altogether 22,74,289 people in 28 districts were affected by the flood. Dhubri continued to be the worst-hit with 7,54,791 affected people.
A total of 269 relief camps were operating in the state, providing shelter to 53,689 people.
The Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat, Tezpur and Dhubri.
Other rivers that have breached the red mark are Burhidihing in Khowang, Dikhou in Sivsagar, DIsang in Nanglamuraghat, Dhansiri in Numaligarh, Kopili in Dharamtul, Beki in Barpeta, Sankosh in Golakganj, Barak in BP Ghat and Kushiyara in Karimganj.

The devastating flood in Assam's famed Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has claimed the lives of 114 wild animals while 95 others have been rescued till Saturday, an official said.
The animal mortality in the KNP has increased from 77 till Friday.
The dead animals include four rhinos and 94 hog deer due to drowning in the KNP and 11 others during treatment.
The forest officials rescued 86 hog deer, two each of sambar deer and scops owl and one each of a rhino calf, Indian hare, otter, elephant and jungle cat, the KNP official said.
Currently, 34 animals are under medical care while 50 others have been released after treatment, the official said.
A hog deer was also killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle on a highway that runs through the KNP.
This is the worst deluge in terms of animal mortality in recent years in KNP.
An 18-month-old rhino calf which took shelter in the house of one Pushpanjali Sharma at Baghmari was subsequently rescued by members of the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation.
''Our community is at the heart of our conservation efforts. These collaborative efforts in challenging times are what truly make us Awesome Assam'', Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X about the incident.
Out of the total 233 camps in the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, 66 were inundated as against 75 on Friday, the official said.
Forest department employees including security personnel stay in camps inside the national park to conduct patrolling for the protection of flora and fauna.

The flood situation in Assam turned grim on Monday with over 6.44 lakh people affected in 19 districts, an official bulletin said.
At least eight rivers were flowing above the danger mark, with the Brahmaputra breaching its highest flood level at Nematighat in Jorhat district, it said.
Multiple agencies, including the NDRF, SDRF, army, air force and local administration, were engaged in rescue operations, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin said.
A total of 6,44,128 people are reeling under the deluge, as Kamrup, Golaghat, Majuli, Lakhimpur, Karimganj, Cachar, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Udalguri, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Darrang, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Biswanath and Jorhat have been inundated by flood waters, it said.
The toll also increased by one, while another person was reported missing.
The death count in this year&rsquo;s flood, storm and landslides has reached 45 with the latest fatality, the bulletin said.
Lakhimpur remained the worst-hit district with 1,43,983 people reeling under flood waters, followed by Dhemaji (1,01,333) and Cachar (66,195), it said.
Altogether, 8,142 displaced people were taking shelter in 72 relief camps, with another 64 relief distribution centres also functional.
In Dhemaji, nine persons were air-lifted by a helicopter of the air force, while army and paramilitary personnel were engaged in rescue operations in Tinsukia district.
Another 1,293 people were rescued by 64 boats, besides 1,952 animals, from various affected districts, it said.
The major rivers flowing above the danger level are Brahmaputra (Tezpur), Subansiri (Badatighat), Dikhou (Sivasagar), Disang (Nanglamuraghat), Burhidihing (Chenimari and Khowang), Jia-Bharali (Nt Road Crossing), Beki (Road Bridge) and Kushiyara (Karimganj), the bulletin said.
Damage to various infrastructure, including embankments, roads and bridges has also been reported from different parts of the state.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said Assam's flood situation has turned critical following heavy rainfall in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
&ldquo;The main cause of the current second wave of floods is the incessant and heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Arunachal Pradesh,&rdquo; he told a press conference in Guwahati.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah called me and assured of all help to deal with the situation,&rdquo; Sarma added.

This is the story of a loving husband and a grieving son. It ends in a tragedy. Shiladitya Chetia, a 44-year-old IPS officer of the 2009 batch, who was serving as Assam home and political secretary, shot himself dead as he could not bear the passing of his wife.&nbsp;
The incident took place in Guwahati where Chetia's 40-year-old wife Agamoni Borbaruah was battling cancer. She was being treated at the hospital for about two months. Prior to that she was receiving treatment in Chennai.
On 18th of June, Agamoni lost her battle with cancer. It was too big a loss for the brave cop who was once awarded a President's gallantry medal. As soon as his wife died, Chetia sought some moments alone with her. He told the medical staff he wanted to pray next to his wife's body. Minutes later, he took his life with his service weapon.
Nemcare's managing director Hitesh Baruah said as the hospital staff rushed in, they found Chetia lying beside his wife's body. They could not save him.
Soon after the incident, former Assam Police DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, who is now the state's chief information commissioner, reached the hospital.
Mahanta said Chetia was like a younger brother to him. He said he was in touch with Chetia while his wife struggled with cancer but had no clue he would take this extreme step. Mahanta also revealed how Chetia had been struggling after losing his loved ones in the recent past.
Mahanta said Chetia's life was full of problems, he had lost his mother and mother-in-law not long ago and was taking care of his wife. Chetia survived those losses but the death of his wife proved to be the final straw.
Chetia, whose father was also a police officer, was an outstanding cop who had led several operations against criminal and terror outfits. He was decorated with the President's Police Medal for Gallantry on Independence Day in 2015 for them. His wife Agamoni had studied English and foreign languages at Tezpur University and was said to be a topper.
The couple had an arranged marriage in May 2013. They did not have a child. Chetia is survived by two sisters.&nbsp;

The flood situation in Assam deteriorated on Friday as six people died and over 3.5 lakh people remained affected in 11 districts, while road and rail communication was disrupted following incessant rainfall in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, officials said.
Three people died in Cachar, two in Hailakandi and one in Karbi Anglong, taking the total death toll to 12 due to floods, rain and storms in the state since May 28.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the the state of the Centre's help to deal with the situation while Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called up Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to enquire about the flood situation in the state.
"Hon'ble Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji telephoned me to enquire about the flood situation in various parts of Assam, following the impact of Cyclone Remal," Sarma posted on X.
He said Shah has "assured us the complete support of the Government of India in these trying times. We are grateful for his proactive efforts".
A total of 3,49,045 people have been affected in the districts of Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji, Hojai, Cachar, Karimganj, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Hailakandi, Golaghat, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, officials said.
Cachar district is the worst hit with 1,19,997 people affected, followed by Nagaon (78,756), Hojai (77,030) and Karimganj (52,684).
Altogether 28,317 affected people have taken shelter in 187 relief camps, including 15,626 in Cachar, 5,308 in Hojai, 3,937 in Karimganj and 2,706 in Hailakandi, they said.
Rescue teams evacuated 615 people to safety, including 255 in Hojai, 152 in Cachar, 90 in Karimganj and 75 in Nagaon.
Swirling flood waters also damaged 11 roads and breached three embankments while urban flooding was reported from Kamrup, Cachar and Jorhat.
Rail and road communication have been severely disrupted in Barak Valley with the water of River Barak flowing above the danger mark, inundating several areas of Silchar town, including the railway station in Tarapur area.
The railway station was flooded and train services to Silchar, the largest town in Barak Valley, have been either cancelled or short-terminated, a North East Frontier Railway spokesperson said.
The Silchar-Guwahati Express and the Silchar-Rangiya Express were cancelled on Friday and Saturday from both sides.
Six more trains were cancelled on Friday due to high water levels and speed restrictions between Jugijan and Jamunamukh stations in Lumding division, he said.
Barak Valley's three districts -- Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj -- along with Dima Hasao and Hojai are among the worst hit in the current spate of floods in the state.
Road communication of Barak Valley with other parts of the state and the region have also been disrupted with vehicles stranded as 20 metres of road in National Highway 6 was washed away by heavy rain in Lumslum area of Meghalaya.
In Dima Hasao, normal life has been affected due to relentless rain, severely impacting road connectivity throughout the district.
The Haflong-Silchar road has been completely cut off after a section was washed away near Harangajao, while the Haflong-Harangajao route has been blocked by multiple landslides.
Train services, which were either canceled or short-terminated due to landslides along the Haflong-Badarpur rail route, were yet to be restored, officials said.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has entered Assam and other northeastern states ahead of its scheduled time due to the effect of Cyclone Remal, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Cachar, Hailakandi, Dima Hasao, Dhubri and South Salmara districts over the next two days.

Three people remained trapped inside an illegal rat-hole mine in Assam's Tinsukia district for the second consecutive day on Monday as efforts continued to rescue them, officials said.
Officials feared that the trio might have died but their deaths could be confirmed if their bodies were retrieved.
The incident took place in Ledo's Tikok West mining site between Bargolai and Namdang areas around 12.30 am on Sunday.
"Three people, identified as Dawa Cherpa from Nepal and John and Fenaal from Meghalaya, went inside the rat-hole mine while the fourth person was assisting them in coal transportation.
"Suddenly, a landslide occurred, trapping the three people inside the mine. It is suspected that they have died but we cannot confirm it until we find the bodies," an official in the district administration told PTI.
Excavators and other equipment have been deployed for the rescue operation which is underway, he said.
Rat-hole mining involves digging of narrow tunnels, usually 3-4 feet high, for workers to enter and extract coal. The horizontal tunnels are often termed "rat-holes" as each just about fits one person.&nbsp;

As part of its Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiatives, the Kamrup Election District conducted an innovative voter awareness programme 'Buddy Voter' in Nagarbera on Monday to encourage new voters to cast their votes on May 7, the polling day in the district.&nbsp;
Kamrup District Election Officer Keerthi Jalli conceptualized the 'Buddy Voter' programme, in which young voters who participated for the first time in previous Assembly polls in 2021 tied 'Buddy' bands on the hands of first-time voters who are set to cast their votes next week.&nbsp;
"Usually, the younger sister ties Rakhi to the elder siblings asking for protection. Likewise, the Buddy band is a promise from the senior to the junior that they shall take care of the new voter," she said.&nbsp;
The programme kicked off at Bimala Prasad Chaliha College in Nagarbera. It witnessed participation of around 200 first-time voters in addition to the second-time voters from the college.&nbsp; The last time's new voters acted as mentors to this year's first-time voters and they shared their voting experiences and insights into the election process.&nbsp;
"Young adults look up to their seniors for guidance on courses to take, jobs to seek and interviews to face. We wanted to capitalise on this bond. The seniors have turned buddy mentors to juniors in this initiative," Jalli said.&nbsp;
They will join the new voters this time and will accompany them to the respective polling stations on the day of the election, she added.&nbsp; The SVEEP team introduced buddy bands in colourful tags. It has seven knots or beads made locally where 'VOTE ON 7' is inscribed.&nbsp;
Taking part in the programme, first-time voter Saiki Rabha said: "This kind of activity will definitely motivate us to go for voting. Our friends and seniors will assist us on poll day. So, that's cool." A viral picture purportedly of a suspended United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) member sleeping with currency notes has triggered a controversy in Assam ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
The opposition grabbed the opportunity and slammed the BJP-led alliance, of which UPPL is a part in Assam, saying the ruling block is "wallowing in the quagmire of corruption".
In the image, the authenticity of which PTI could not independently verify, Benjamin Basumatary, identified in the photograph as a Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) member of UPPL, is seen sleeping on a bed wearing only a traditional towel with a heap of Rs 500 denomination notes.
"The photo that has gone viral is five year old. It has been made viral due to political conspiracy. We will find out who has done this. I don't know who has done this," he told reporters when asked about the picture.
Basumatary claimed that some people had blackmailed him then also after he was clicked in that pose.
"Five years ago, I had taken a loan of Rs 3 lakh for some work from my sister. That particular night, some of us were having a party and my partner clicked the photo with the money I had borrowed in a fun moment," he added.
The UPPL sought to distance itself from the image, stating that Basumatary has been suspended and removed from the VCDC post.
UPPL chief and Bodoland Territorial Council Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro claimed that the Harisingha Block Committee of the party had recommended disciplinary action against Basumatary on January 5 this year and accordingly, he was suspended on January 10 over the photograph.
"Additionally, the BTC government suspended and removed him from the post of VCDC Chairman on 10th February 2024. I urge all media outlets and social media users to refrain from linking Basumatry with UPPL," he said in a post on X.
Boro further said that Basumatary's actions are solely his own responsibility and the party is not accountable for any of his personal acts.
Sharing the viral image, All India Congress Committee in a post on X said: "Benjamin is an active leader of UPPL party. UPPL is an important ally of BJP in Assam. This picture, which came amid elections, shows that BJP and its allies are wallowing in the quagmire of corruption." It further said that the BJP has selectively made alliances with those people "who can loot the country" like them.
Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia of Congress in a post on X said: "Shocking and disgraceful! A viral photo depicts a #UPPL leader asleep with bundles of cash. This blatant display of corruption demands immediate action." He asked Assam Chief Minister to "prove the integrity of your numerous tied agencies" and conduct a thorough investigation into the case.
Boro, on the other hand, criticised Saikia by terming his comments as "unfortunate" and said that he made the statement on a "fake news" instantly without verification.
"Being a LoP it's disgraceful that you have tried to defame the strong credentials and foundations of UPPL, which was formed with a lot of sacrifices in the interests of Bodoland," he said while sharing a clarification video of Basumatary.
Raijor Dal chief and MLA Akhil Gogoi said, "This is BJP, this is an ally of BJP. This is what actually the motto of BJP signifies: 'NAA KHAOONGA, NAA KHANE DUNGA'." Reacting to Gogoi also, Boro said that a "malicious photo" of Basumatary has been widely spread by media and social media users associating it with UPPL, which is not related to the suspended member.
"The photo was taken five years ago by Basumatary's friends while they were partying and he was blackmailed with this photo thereafter. The cash in the photo was of Benjamin Basumatary's sister," the BTC chief said.&nbsp;

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and 30 indigenous organisations on Monday burnt copies of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in different parts of the state, including Guwahati, Barpeta, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Dibrugarh and Tezpur.
The 16-party United Opposition Forum, Assam, (UOFA) announced a statewide hartal on Tuesday, besides taking up other agitational programmes in a phased manner.
"We will continue with our non-violent, peaceful, democratic movement against CAA. Alongside, we will also continue our legal fight", AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjya told PTI.
Bhattacharjya asserted that the indigenous people of Assam and North East will never accept CAA.
"On Tuesday, copies of the CAA will be burnt by the North East Student Organisation (NESO) in all state capitals of the region. AASU and 30 organisations will also take out torchlight processions in Assam, and launch a satyagraha from the next day," he said.
In Dibrugarh, AASU members were engaged in a scuffle with police when the latter tried to stop them from taking out a procession from their office in the Chowkidingi area of the town.
The Nalbari district unit of AASU took out a protest rally and also burnt copies of the Act in front of the local municipal board office.
Pointing out that the Sixth Scheduled areas and states with provisions for Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the North East have been exempted from CAA, Bhattacharjya said, "Our question is, something which is bad for some parts of NE, how can it be good for the other parts. In Assam too, in eight districts it will not be enforced." He also claimed that the CAA goes against the Assam Accord, which sets March 25, 1971, as the deadline for identification of illegal migrants in this northeastern state.
The AASU had been at the forefront in protesting against the CAA since the bill proposing the legislation was brought by the central government, and has already filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Act.
Meanwhile, students have started protesting against the CAA in different parts of the state, including in front of Cotton University in Guwahati.
The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), which was formed post the anti-CAA movement in the state in 2019-20, staged protests in different parts of the state.
Its members displayed black flags and raised slogans against the government as they took out protest marches in several parts, including Guwahati.
The UOFA has called for a statewide &lsquo;hartal&rsquo; on Tuesday, its general secretary and AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi told PTI.
"We are going forward with our programme of a hartal tomorrow. We will also take up other protests, including gherao of the state secretariat, as announced earlier", he said.
Opposition political parties, student bodies and other organisations had announced intensifying protests against the CAA when the rules were notified for its implementation.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had asked those opposed to the Act to fight it out at the Supreme Court, maintaining that protests on the streets will bear no fruit as it is already a legislation passed by Parliament.
He had also warned that if political parties call for bandhs, they could lose registration as the Gauhati High Court had passed an order earlier prohibiting bandhs.
With the CAA rules being issued, the Narendra Modi-led central government will start granting Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan who came to India till December 31, 2014. These include Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians.

Student dropout rates in state-run primary schools across Assam have been continuously rising for the last few years despite the government taking various initiatives to improve the situation, the latest Economic Survey said.
Terming education as one of the key inputs for balanced social and fiscal development, the Economic Survey, Assam for 2023-24 said the average annual dropout rate in lower primary (LP) schools in the state stood at 8.49 per cent in 2022-23.
As per Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) data, the LP school dropout rate was 6.02 per cent in 2021-22, rising from 4.3 per cent in 2019-20 and 3.1 per cent in 2018-19, it added.
"Likewise in the upper primary (UP) level, the dropout rate is 10.33 per cent in 2022-23 and it was 8.81 per cent in 2021-22," the report stated.
The economic survey said that the transition rate from primary to upper primary schools in the state is 89.7 per cent.
The dropout rate for LP schools is the highest in South Salmara district at 22.52 per cent in the last financial year, followed by 14.54 per cent in Karimganj, while the lowest rate of 4.02 per cent was recorded in Sivasagar.
"Similarly, in the upper primary level, this rate is the highest at 32.39 per cent in South Salmara and the lowest at 4.03 per cent in Sivasagar during the period 2022-23," the survey said.
Assam has 33,937 government and provincialised LP schools. Of them, 32,860 are in rural areas and 1,077 in urban localities.
The number of upper primary schools is 5,815, of them, 5,511 are in rural areas and 294 are in urban areas.
Against the rising dropout rate, the gross enrolment ratio (GER) has been increasing every year, the Economic Survey pointed out.
The GER for elementary schools (Class 1 to 8) during 2021-22 was 109.8 per cent, 104.5 per cent in 2020-21 and 107.4 per cent in 2019-20, showing an overall rise in Assam, it added.
"In secondary schools (Class 9-10), the GER during 2021-22 was 74.5 per cent, and it was 74 per cent in 2020-21," the report said, adding that the rate was the same at 74 per cent in 2019-20.
However, the GER is considerably low for senior secondary schools at 40.1 per cent in 2021-22, up from 30.9 per cent in 2020-21, according to UDISE data.
"Education empowers people with skills and knowledge, which ultimately help boost economic growth. A number of schemes have been initiated by the government for encouraging development of education among various sections of the population in the state," the report said.
It said that altogether 46,69,501 students were provided with free textbooks before the commencement of the academic year 2023-24. In 2022, 41,51,498 students from Class 1 to 8 were given free textbooks by the government.

"Overall it is a discriminatory decision of the cabinet of Assam because the govt was talking about the UCC and banning polygamy but they failed to do so (bringing the UCC and banning polygamy) for unknown reasons. Just before the election, they're trying to polarise the Hindu voters in favour of BJP by depriving and discriminating Muslims in some fields like repealing this act saying that this is a pre-independence act and citing child marriage which is not a fact. This is the only mechanism to register the marriages of Muslims and there is no other scope or institution and it is also as per the constitution of India. Meanwhile, AIUDF MLA Hafiz Rafiqul Islam said it is a tactic to target Muslims ahead of elections.
"This government doesn't have the courage to bring UCC. They can't do it. What they brought in Uttarakhand, is not UCC either...They were trying to bring UCC to Assam too. But I think they can't bring it to Assam because there are people from several castes and communities here...BJP followers themselves follow those practices here," he told ANI.
"Elections are approaching, this is just their tactics to target Muslims. So, they couldn't bring any Bill on polygamy or UCC in Assam...So, they are repealing the Assam Muslim Marriages &amp; Divorces Registration Act. The Assam cabinet doesn't have the right to repeal or amend a constitutional right," he added.

The law allows registration of Muslim marriages and divorces with specific registrars in the state.
The government's move means that the 94 Muslim Marriage Registrars operating currently will cease to have the authority to register marriages.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the decision is aimed at prohibiting child marriages as the Act contained provisions allowing marriage registration even if the bride and groom had not reached the age of 18 and 21.&nbsp;
Tourism minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said that repealing the Assam Muslim Marriages and Divorces Registration Act would be a step towards implementing a uniform civil code in the state.&nbsp;
A one-time compensation of Rs 2 lakh will be provided to Muslim Marriage Registrars for their rehabilitation after the Act is repealed.

Several electronic gadgets were recovered from the cells of National Security Act (NSA) detenues at Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam on Saturday.
Among the detenues are 10 members of the radical group 'Waris Punjab De' (WPD), a pro-Khalistani outfit, including its chief Amritpal and one of his uncles.
They have been jailed since March 19 last year, following their arrests under the NSA from various parts of Punjab during a crackdown on the outfit.
Director General of Police GP Singh revealed that a search of the premises was conducted by jail staff based on intelligence indicating unauthorised activities.
The search yielded various electronic devices, such as a smartphone with a SIM card, a keypad phone, a TV remote with a keyboard, a spycam pen, pen drives, Bluetooth headphones, and speakers.
The jail staff confiscated these items, and investigations are underway to determine the source of these "unauthorized articles and mode of induction." DGP Singh posted on 'X' that additional CCTV cameras were installed in the public area of the NSA block following the receipt of information about unauthorised activities taking place there.
He further said additional lawful actions and preventive measures are being implemented to avoid such incidents in the future.
It's noteworthy that the DGP did not specify that the electronic items were recovered from the WDP members housed in the jail.
A multi-tier security arrangement had been established in Dibrugarh Jail since the arrival of the radical outfit members from Punjab, including the installation of additional CCTV cameras and the repair or replacement of faulty ones.
Dibrugarh Jail, one of the oldest and high-security prisons in the Northeast, was constructed by the British in 1859-60.
Amritpal Singh was brought to Dibrugarh Central Jail on April 23, 2023 after Punjab Police arrested him from the state&rsquo;s Moga district after several weeks of manhunt.
His aides were also shifted to the jail during the massive operation against Waris Punjab De. Jail sources had earlier said Amritpal has been kept in a solitary cell.&nbsp;
