Days after Akhilesh Yadav said he hasn't been invited for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the Congress on Tuesday extended an invitation to the Samajwadi Party chief to join the Rahul Gandhi-led yatra in its Uttar Pradesh leg.
Accepting the invitation extended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Yadav said he will join the yatra either in Amethi or Raebareli.
"Akhilesh Yadav has received an invitation of Mallikarjun Kharge to join Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra which enters UP on February 16. Yadav has given consent to join the yatra either in Amethi or Raebareli," the SP said in a statement.
Yadav said he expected that the Nyay Yatra would strengthen the 'PDA' strategy of the SP and take forward its agitation for "social justice and mutual harmony".
An SP coinage, PDA means 'Pichchde (backward), Dalit, and Alpsankhyak' (minority).
Asked whether he would participate in the yatra, Yadav had said on Saturday, "The problem is that many big events take place, but we don't get an invite." Tagging a video on Yadav's remarks, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh had said on Sunday the detailed route and programme of the Nyay Yatra in UP was being prepared and would be finalised in a day or two.
Both the Congress and the SP are members of the opposition INDIA bloc.
The SP recently offered 11 seats to the Congress for the upcoming parliamentary polls in UP which sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha.
The Congress has faced heat recently from INDIA constituents such as the TMC which has attacked it over seat sharing and on carrying out the yatra. TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had stayed away from the yatra while it was in her state.
Meanwhile, Congress general secretary and UP in-charge Avinash Pande on Tuesday participated in a cultural programme 'Jyot se Jyot Jagate Chalo' organised here by the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee on the birth anniversary of poet Pradeep.
This programme will conclude with a campaign to spread the message of Nyay Yatra to the people, Pande said in a post on X.
Later, the UP Congress in a statement said this programme will continue till February 12, in which Congress workers from the state will inform the people about the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Speaking on the occasion, Pande said, "Rahul Gandhi ji is carrying the message of humanity, love and brotherhood in the country. On the other hand, the BJP and the RSS want to take the country backward by spreading hatred. In such a situation, the responsibility of all of us increases to stand with our leader to save the Constitution of the country." UP Congress chief Ajay Rai said that poet Pradeep had dedicated his life to humanity and brotherhood.
"Today Rahul Gandhi ji is spreading the same message in the entire country. We all stand firmly with him. Every person in the country has now realised that the Congress is the only party which is fighting for their rights. The public has understood the poisonous net of the BJP and the ruling party's departure is certain in 2024," Rai said.

The rear window pane of the vehicle was smashed in the incident but Gandhi did not suffer any injury.
Television visuals showed Gandhi alighting from the vehicle after reaching a designated halt and inspecting the damaged windowpane.
The attack took place in Malda's Harischandrapur area as the yatra re-entered West Bengal from Bihar.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' entered Bihar through Kishanganj on Monday, a district with a heavy Muslim population which is also a party stronghold.
Gandhi's Bihar tour comes a day after the Congress was left high and dry with former ally Nitish Kumar, the Bihar chief minister, making a return to the BJP-led NDA.
This is Gandhi's first visit to Bihar since the assembly poll campaign of 2020.
Gandhi is scheduled to address a public meeting in Kishanganj, followed by a big rally in the adjoining district of Purnea on Tuesday and another one in Katihar a day later, according to Congress legislature party leader Shakil Ahmed Khan.
He will be leaving for West Bengal on Thursday via Araria district and will return to Bihar a few days later via Jharkhand, said state Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh.
According to leaders of the state Congress, the party's alliance partners in Bihar like RJD president Lalu Prasad and CPI(ML)-L general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya have been invited to the rally at Purnea.
Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) president with whom the Congress had shared power till he did a volte face, was also extended an invitation which had been accepted by the veteran leader.&nbsp;

Congress' 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' led by Rahul Gandhi entered West Bengal from Assam on Thursday morning. He was welcomed by state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
The Yatra entered West Bengal through Bakshirhat in Cooch Behar district in the northern part of the state.
After the handover of the flag, the Yatra will head towards Khagrabari Chowk in Cooch Behar district, where Gandhi will address a public meeting.
After passing through Tufanganj and Cooch Behar town, Gandhi will conduct a padayatra from Maa Bhawani Chowk in Cooch Behar.
The Yatra will continue by bus at Gokshadanga before reaching Falakata in Alipurduar district for an overnight halt.
Following a two-day hiatus on January 26-27, it will navigate through Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Uttar Dinajpur, and Darjeeling districts before entering Bihar on January 29.
Re-entering West Bengal on January 31 via Malda, it will pass through Murshidabad, both Congress stronghold districts, before departing the state on February 1.
The Bengal leg of the yatra spans 523 km across six districts and six Lok Sabha constituencies &mdash; Darjeeling, Raigunj, North and South Malda, and two in Murshidabad &mdash; over five days.
This marks Gandhi's first visit to the state since the April-May 2021 assembly polls.
The Bengal leg of the Yatra began a day after Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's announcement that her party will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls independently in West Bengal.
Both Congress and the TMC are constituents of the INDIA bloc formed to take on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the 2024 Parliamentary elections.
The CPI(M) and Left parties, allies of the Congress within the state and the INDIA bloc at the national level, are expected to join the march.
However, TMC has decided to abstain, citing a lack of information about the Yatra.
The Yatra, which started in Manipur on January 14, is scheduled to cover 6,713 km in 67 days while passing through 110 districts in 15 states, before culminating in Mumbai on March 20.&nbsp;

The Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was stopped from entering the city limits of Guwahati on Tuesday, triggering protests from Congress workers who broke barricades and raised slogans.
Gandhi later addressed party supporters on the outskirts of the city, and said, "We have broken barricades, but will not break the law".
The police, which had set up barricades at two places to prevent the Yatra from entering the city limits, had to use force to stop the Congress workers.
Gandhi was earlier accorded a boisterous welcome as he tried to enter Guwahati and addressed some varsity students on the way.
Addressing supporters, he said while BJP president J P Nadda took the same route, they were not allowed to travel on it.
"You should not think we are weak. We have broken the barricades," he told his workers and supporters, calling them "babbar sher" (lion).
"They have cancelled my programme at the university. My programme was cancelled, but the students heard me outside," he said.
"Congress workers do not fear anyone," he said, adding that "we will defeat the BJP in Assam and form the Congress government soon." He also lauded the police for doing their job well.
"We know that police officers have done a good job and followed orders, with one person coming and lying down before the (yatra) bus. We are not against you. We are against the chief minister who is most corrupt. Our fight is with him," Gandhi said.
He said policemen were also clapping on his speech but hastened to add that they should not.
"We have won as we have broken the barricades," AICC in-charge for Assam Jitendra Singh said.
Gandhi later proceeded from the designated route on the ring road.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said the Yatra would not be allowed to enter the city in order to avoid traffic jams. The Yatra, which entered Meghalaya on Monday, returned to Assam for its last leg and will travel through the outskirts of the state's largest city Guwahati.
The Yatra would be in Assam till Thursday.

The Congress on Sunday announced it will hold demonstrations across state and district headquarters over what it said were "planned attacks" on the convoys of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam.
In a late night post on X, Congress general secretary, organisation, K C Venugopal alleged that since the yatra's entry in Assam, "the most corrupt CM in India has been carrying out relentless attacks on our convoys, properties and leaders using his goons." "This is a matter that every Indian must take seriously, because it exposes the BJP's fascism and hooliganism. All across India, PCCs and DCCs are instructed to hold large scale protests tomorrow evening and exposing how the Modi-led BJP is killing democracy in Assam through their corrupt CM," Venugopal said.
"Our fight for justice - social, economic and political - will continue undeterred!" he said.
In his letter to all Pradesh Congress Committee chiefs, state in-charges, AICC secretaries, heads of frontal organisations, departments and cells, Venugopal said the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi, which commenced in Manipur on January 14th, has successfully journeyed through Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and now entered Assam.
"Regrettably, as you know, the BJP, particularly it's most corrupt Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam, is desperately trying to disrupt this peaceful Yatra," he said.
"Over the past two days, we have seen planned attacks on the convoys of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and instances of tearing down our Yatra posters by these troublemakers," the Congress leader said.
Today, a deliberately assembled crowd of BJP workers "attacked" the convoy led by Rahul Gandhi, resulting in injuries to several party leaders, including the Assam PCC President, Venugopal alleged.
This evening, there was a fresh attack on the Nyay Yatra by the "goons" supported by the BJP, he said.
"This is nothing but a desperate attempt to mask the administrative failures and corruption of the Assam Chief minister and the BJP government at the Centre," he said.
"In the face of such blatant attempts to suppress our cause, it is imperative that we stand firm and united. Our collective resistance is not just a response to these attacks; it is a declaration of our unwavering commitment to justice," Venugopal said in the letter.
"We cannot allow the desperate actions of a few to deter us from our mission," he said.
In light of these events, it is requested that massive protest demonstrations may be held in state and district headquarters by the PCCs, involving our senior leaders and party functionaries Monday evening, the 22nd January, Venugopal said.
"Let us come together to strongly oppose these heinous, planned violent attacks on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra," he said.
Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah was allegedly assaulted while general secretary Jairam Ramesh's car was targeted in Assam's Sonitpur district during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on Sunday.
The party has demanded a judicial inquiry into the attack on Borah, alleging involvement of a BJP MLA and his supporters.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also mobbed at a roadside eatery in Assam's Nagaon district on Sunday evening.
The crowd raised slogans against the Wayanad MP and also displayed placards with messages such as 'Anyay Yatra' and 'Rakibul go back', referring to Samaguri Congress MLA Rakibul Hussain.

Congress on January 21 alleged that scores of BJP cadres attacked a convoy of the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' while passing through Assam's Sonitpur district on Sunday. Rahul Gandhi was later promptly escorted by the security personnel.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that his vehicle and the media personnel covering the yatra were targetted by the BJP workers.
The Rahul Gandhi-led Yatra is on its fourth day in the state, travelling from Biswanth district through Sonitpur to Nagaon.
"The car of Ramesh ji and some others were moving to join the main Yatra entourage near Jamugurighat when it came under attack", All India Congress Committee (AICC) communications coordinator Mahima Singh told PTI.
"We informed the police and the additional superintendent of police is at the location now", the AICC leader added.
She said Nyay Yatra stickers from his vehicle were torn out and the attackers attempted to put a BJP flag on the vehicle, nearly breaking the rear glass.
"The camera, badge and other apparatus of a vlogger who has been covering the Yatra were snatched. Members of the social media team of the party were also manhandled", she said.
Singh said a BJP programme was apparently happening in the area and some of the media persons had gotten off their vehicles to get some visuals.
"They created a very intimidating situation for us. They have refused to return the camera of the vlogger, claiming that it was not snatched," she added.

A case has been filed against 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Assam for allegedly deviating from the permitted route.

An FIR was registered against the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' and its chief organiser KB Byju for allegedly deviating from its permitted route inside Jorhat town in Assam on Thursday, police said.
According to an official, the march took a different turn in the town instead of going towards KB Road as permitted, and it led to a "chaotic situation" in the area.
"Some people fell due to the sudden rush of people and a stampede-like situation was created. A suo motu FIR has been registered at Jorhat Sadar Police Station against the Yatra and its chief organiser," he added.
According to the official, the FIR mentioned that the Yatra did not follow the district administration's norms and it violated road safety norms.
When contacted, Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia told PTI that the FIR was a ploy to create unnecessary obstacles before the Yatra.
"There was no police manning the traffic diversion at the PWD point. The assigned route was too small and we had a huge gathering. So, we took a detour for just a few metres. Himanta Biswa Sarma is scared of the Yatra's success on the first day (in Assam) and now wants to derail it," he added.
The Assam leg of the march will continue till January 25. It will travel 833 km in 17 districts.
The Yatra, led by the Congress MP, commenced from Manipur on January 14 and will culminate on March 20 in Mumbai.
It has been planned that the Yatra will cover 6,713 km in 67 days while passing through 110 districts in 15 states.

Civil society organisations that met Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra urged the Congress to demand during the upcoming Budget session of Parliament that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit the violence-hit state before the Lok Sabha polls, the party said on Monday.
The organisations, which met Gandhi separately, also said Manipur needs "sensitive, transparent, accountable and strong" governance, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh told a press conference here as the yatra halted for lunch.
The ethnic violence that broke out in the northeastern state in May last year has claimed more than 180 lives and rendered thousands homeless.
The Manipur-to-Maharashtra yatra began on Sunday from Thoubal with Gandhi asserting that the Congress will present a new vision for India that will be based on harmony, brotherhood and equitability and devoid of hatred, violence and monopoly.
"Earlier when we used to come to Manipur, we used to meet Manipuri organisations but now we are meeting community organisations. That is a difference. All of them are demanding peace," Ramesh said.
Taking a swipe at the BJP-led Manipur government, he claimed that two state ministers are "missing" and working "online".
The prime minister did not even meet Chief Minister N Biren Singh and only greeted him digitally on his birthday, the Congress leader said. Ramesh also claimed that neither the Rajya Sabha MP nor a minister of state from Manipur could meet Modi.
"The civil society organisations told Rahul ji that the Congress and he should demand in the Budget session of Parliament that Modi come to Manipur before the (2024) Lok Sabha elections," Ramesh said.
He claimed that Prime Minister Modi even skipped a campaign meeting in Mizoram recently as questions would have been raised if he visited the election-bound state and not Manipur.
Gandhi also met a truck driver from Mathura and a shopkeeper from Bihar during his yatra in Manipur, Ramesh said.
Hitting out at the prime minister, Ramesh said the only reason for bringing the no-confidence motion was to get the prime minister to break his "silence" on Manipur.
"The prime minister spoke for 123 minutes in Parliament but spoke only for three and a half minutes on Manipur," he said.
The no-confidence motion against the Modi-led BJP government was defeated through a voice-vote in the Lok Sabha last year, after opposition MPs staged a walkout.
The Congress' general secretary in-charge communications said all the organisations told Gandhi that there should be sensitivity in governance and the prime minister should visit Manipur.
"They all demanded that there should be sensitivity and a strong government. The result of the divisive politics of the BJP-RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) is being witnessed in Manipur," Ramesh said.
Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar said at the press conference that the yatra can be summed up on two lines in Hindi -- "Jab desh mein beh rahi ho anyay ki andhi tab nyay ke liye ladh rahe hain Rahul Gandhi (When a storm of injustice is blowing in the country, Rahul Gandhi is fighting for justice)." Lashing out at the BJP, Kumar said the divide is there for all to see.
"The drivers of Imphal are not willing to go to Kangpokpi and vice versa. When the Congress had raised this issue in Parliament and demanded that the prime minister and the home minister reply on Manipur, you saw how the opposition was maligned," Kumar said.
Gandhi has said that "we want to end the cycle of violence and divide in Manipur and establish peace", he said.
Kumar added that "a storm of injustice is blowing as institutions have been captured". "You can see how institutions are becoming incapable of delivering justice," he said.
"People are asking if the yatra is related to elections. If a political party does something obviously it is to do with politics but politics does not just mean elections," Kumar said.
Kumar asked why doesn't the prime minister come to Manipur, despite having all the security apparatus at his disposal.
At a rally in Thoubal on Sunday to flag-off the over 6,700-km yatra with which the Congress is looking to set the narrative for the Lok Sabha polls, Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge attacked Prime Minister Modi for not visiting Manipur as it reeled under ethnic violence, and vowed to ensure justice for its people.

The Manipur government has imposed restrictions on the flagging off programme of Congress' Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Thoubal district on January 14 stating that the programme should not exceed an hour and the number of participants be a maximum 3000.
The permission was issued by the office of Thoubal deputy commissioner on January 11 and was shared by the party with the reporters here on Saturday, a day ahead of the yatra.
The permission said the programme should not exceed an hour as the venue is just beside and along the national highway and traffic has to be diverted to alternate routes, it said.
Also the number of participants should be restricted to a "manageable limit" of maximium 3000 persons, it said.
The Congress had changed the venue from Imphal Palace Ground to a private ground in Thoubal after the BJP-led N Biren Singh government had given conditional approval to flag off the yatra from the Palace grounds in Imphal restricting the number of people to 1000.
The order said, "There shall be no anti-national or communal or any adverse slogan during the rally and the Yatra" and the organisers should fully cooperate with the state authorities. The permission for the Yatra will stand cancelled if any situation arose "warranting such gathering to be disassembled in order to maintain peace, public order and tranquility in the area".

AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and top leaders of the party will participate in the programme, which is being held at a critical juncture as the party seeks to revive its electoral fortunes after a poor showing in the last round of assembly elections.
Manipur is being rocked by ethnic violence since May last year which has claimed over 180 lives.
The violence erupted on May 3 last year after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Asserting that the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is an ideological yatra and not an electoral one, the Congress on Saturday said it was being taken out against the "anyay kaal" of 10 years of the Narendra Modi government.
The yatra will begin from Thoubal district near here and is being seen as the Congress' bid to set the narrative in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls and put the spotlight on issues such as unemployment, price rise and social justice.

"The prime minister shows golden dreams of 'amrit kaal' but what is the reality of the last 10 years - 'anyay kaal'. No mention of 'anyay kaal' is made while big boasts of 'amrit kaal' are projected," Ramesh said.
He was addressing a press conference here along with former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh, state party chief Keisham Meghachandra Singh, former Arunachal Pradesh CM Nabam Tuki and Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam.
"The yatra is being taken out keeping in mind political, economic and social injustices committed in the last 10 years," Ramesh said.
"This is a yatra by a political party. It is an ideological yatra and not an electoral one," he stressed.
Ahead of the yatra, Gandhi shared a video montage of women from Manipur sharing their wishes for the march.
"This message of love from the women of Manipur is the blessing we need before we begin our battle for justice tomorrow," he said on his WhatsApp channel.
The yatra will pass through 100 Lok Sabha constituencies in 15 states and the party believes it will prove to be as "transformative" as Rahul Gandhi's earlier cross-country march.
The Congress has said it is taking out the yatra as the government did not give it a chance to raise people's issues in Parliament and the initiative is aimed at re-establishing the principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution.
The yatra will traverse 6,713 km, mostly in buses but also on foot. It will cover 110 districts in 67 days, before culminating in Mumbai on March 20 or 21.
Though the Congress has repeatedly stressed that this is not an electoral yatra, it comes at a crucial juncture as the party seeks to revive its fortunes after a poor showing in the last round of assembly elections.
With the BJP focusing on the January 22 Ram temple consecration ceremony, the Congress wants to put the spotlight on bread-and-butter issues through this yatra.
Gandhi had on Friday said emotional issues are being "misused" politically and attention is being diverted from real issues, in a "betrayal" of the people of the country.
In a post on X, he said, "The youth will have to think about what will be the identity of the India of our dreams? Quality of life or just emotions? Youth raising provocative slogans or the employed youth? Love or hate?".
The yatra will be flagged off from a private ground in Thoubal district, instead of Imphal, the party's initial choice.
The state government had given the Congress conditional approval to flag off the yatra from the Palace Grounds in the state capital, restricting the number of participants. Therefore, the Congress decided to opt for another venue.
The Thoubal district administration has also imposed some restrictions such as the duration should not exceed an hour and the number of participants should not cross 3,000.
The yatra will be in Manipur for a day and cover a little over 100 km. The state has been rocked by ethnic violence since May last year which has claimed more than 180 lives and rendered thousands of people homeless.
At the press conference, Ramesh lashed out at the BJP-led central and state governments for the situation in Manipur.
"What can be a bigger 'anyay' (injustice) than the prime minister not visiting the state even once," he said and slammed PM Modi for maintaining "silence" on the violence in this northeastern state.
The PM spoke during the no-confidence motion in Parliament for hours but talked about Manipur only for a few minutes, what can be a bigger injustice, he asked.
Ramesh alleged that there is no 'loktantra' but just 'ektantra (one-man rule)', and asserted that the yatra is aimed at strengthening democracy and democratic institutions.
During a virtual meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance on Saturday, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge invited all leaders of the bloc to join the yatra anywhere along its route, Ramesh informed.
Besides Manipur, the yatra will cover four northeastern states -- Nagaland (257 km in two days), Arunachal Pradesh (55 km in one day), Meghalaya (five km in one day) and Assam (833 km in eight days).
The yatra will then move on to West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
According to the route released by the party, the yatra will stay the longest in Uttar Pradesh, covering 1,074 km in 11 days. It would pass through politically vital areas, including Amethi, the Gandhi family bastion of Rae Bareli and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency of Varanasi.
Gandhi will address public gatherings and interact with civil society members and organisations twice a day during the yatra.
Before starting the yatra, Gandhi will pay homage to martyrs at the Khongjom War Memorial in Thoubal, built in memory of those killed in the last Anglo-Manipur War in 1891.

The Manipur government on January 10 said that it has allowed the Congress to launch its Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra with 'limited participants' from Imphal East District.

Manipur government Wednesday approved the venue for the flagging off of the proposed January 14 Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra albeit "with a limited number of participants." The approval by the Manipur government came eight days after the Congress approached it for flagging off the yatra from Hapta Kangjeibung ground here.
The order issued by the Imphal East district magistrate's office said, "Only flagging off of the Yatra with a limited number of participants is hereby allowed on January 14 to prevent any untoward incident and disturbance in law and order. The number and name of the participants shall be provided in advance to this office to enable this office to take up all necessary precautionary measures".
The order further informed that the Imphal East district superintendent of police has submitted a report stating that a huge crowd is expected during the opening ceremony of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra at the venue. In view of prevailing law and order situation in the state, the huge gathering may create law and order problems.
"Moreover prohibiton under Section 144 Cr Pc is also in force in Imphal East district," it added.
