Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said if the Congress retains power in Chhattisgarh, women will be given an annual financial assistance of Rs 15,000 in the state.
The announcement, which comes ahead of the second phase of Chhattisgarh elections scheduled on November 17, is being seen as a counter to the opposition BJP&rsquo;s promise in its poll manifesto of giving Rs 12,000 per year to married women.
&ldquo;Today, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, with the blessings of Maa Lakshmi ji and Chhattisgarh Mahtari, an important decision has been taken for women empowerment,&rdquo; Baghel told reporters in Raipur.
After the Congress government is formed again in Chhattisgarh, women in the state will be provided an annual assistance of Rs 15,000 directly into their bank accounts under the "Chhattisgarh Gruha Lakshmi Yojana'', he said.
Baghel also wished people of the state on Diwali.
The first phase of polling in 20 out of the total 90 assembly seats in the state was held on November 7. The remaining 70 seats will see voting on November&nbsp;

The Enforcement Directorate claimed its probe in the Mahadev betting app case has led it to Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel.

The Enforcement Directorate claimed Friday it has recorded a statement of a 'cash courier' who alleged that the promoters of the Mahadev betting app have paid Rs 508 crore to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel till now and that it is a "subject matter of investigation".
The courier, Asim Das, has been arrested by the agency after it recovered Rs 5.39 crore from him in the poll-bound state.
The Mahadev online betting app and its promoters are being investigated by the ED under the anti-money laundering law.
"From the questioning of Asim Das, and from the forensic examination of the phone recovered from him, and examination of an email sent by Shubam Soni (one of the high-ranking accused of Mahadev network) many startling allegations have come forth, namely, that regular payments have been made in the past and so far around Rs 508 crore have been paid by Mahadev APP promoters to Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh," the ED said in a statement.

On Day 2 of the event, streets were seen covered in flower petals to welcome party leaders including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Dancers were seen performing along the path, while party workers and supporters waved flags.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra landed in Raipur on the morning of 25 February 2023. She was reportedly received at the airport by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
On the same day, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi will address leaders, as well as political, economic and international affairs resolutions will be deliberated upon at the party's 85th plenary session. A "thanksgiving" statement for former Congress president Sonia Gandhi will also be read out at the session following which she will deliver her address.
On the first day of the session, the Congress steering committee unanimously decided not to hold elections to the CWC and authorised the party chief to nominate its members. The decision was taken at the Kharge-led steering committee meeting which members of the Gandhi family skipped.

Following raids by the Enforcement Directorate at places allegedly linked to Congress leaders, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister alleged a conspiracy to disrupt preparations for the Congress party's plenary session.
He said on 20 February 2023 that the Bharatiya Janata Party was desperate because of the success of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, and also the revelation of "the truth about Adani". The CM added that this was the BJP's tactic to divert attention, but it would fail as the country knows the truth.
Baghel said that the party's spirit cannot be broken with such tactics, and it will fight and win.
Earlier, the ED launched raids at several places in Raipur and Durg over a money laundering case related to the alleged coal levy scam case in the state.

Amid preparations for Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 20 February 2023 raided multiple locations allegedly linked to Congress leaders.
The action was taken in a money laundering case related to the alleged coal levy scam in the state. ED conducted raids in Raipur and Durg allegedly linked to eight Congress leaders, office-bearers, and a legislator.
ED's crackdown began days before the Congress holds its plenary session in Raipur. More than 10,000 Congress functionaries and senior leaders are expected to participate in the event from 24 to 26 February.
According to officials, the searches are underway since early this morning at over a dozen locations that include those of MLA Devendra Yadav in Bhilai (Durg district), Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer Ramgopal Agrawal, chairman of Chhattisgarh State Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Sushil Sunny Agrawal and party's state spokesperson RP Singh in Raipur.
The raids also covered some other ruling party leaders.
They said the ED is investigating those who have been the "beneficiaries" of the proceeds of crime of the alleged coal levy scam perpetrated during the tenure of the current government.

In a major announcement ahead of the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls due this year-end, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said unemployed youth will be given a monthly allowance in the state from the next financial year. &nbsp;
It was one of the key promises made by the Congress ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls, following which the party returned to power in the state after a gap of 15 years.&nbsp;
"Unemployed youth will be given an unemployment allowance every month from the next financial year (2023-24),&rdquo; Baghel said without specifying the amount.
Addressing people on the occasion of the Republic Day on Thursday after unfurling the national flag at the Lalbag Parade grounds in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district, Baghel also announced the formulation of a rural industry policy in the state to strengthen the cottage industry-based rural economy.

As per the bills, Scheduled Tribes will get quota of 32 per cent, Other Backward Classes 27 per cent, Scheduled Caste 13 per cent, while 4 per cent has been provisioned for Economically Weaker Section (EWS)

The Chhattisgarh Assembly on Friday unanimously passed two amendment bills related to reservation in government jobs and admission in educational institutions in proportion to population of different categories, taking the total quota in the state to 76 per cent.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel tabled the Chhattisgarh Public Service (Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes Reservation) Amendment Bill and Chhattisgarh Educational Institutions (Reservation in admission) Amendment Bill, which were passed after a debate of more than five hours.
As per the bills, Scheduled Tribes will get quota of 32 per cent, Other Backward Classes 27 per cent, Scheduled Caste 13 per cent, while 4 per cent has been provisioned for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in public employment and admissions in educational institutions.

Answering the discussion on the bills, Baghel said the previous BJP governments could not form a Quantifiable Data Commission, which was constituted by his government in 2019 to survey people belonging to OBC and EWS categories in the state.
The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the commission's process, the chief minister added.
The commission recently submitted its recommendations to the state government, according to which the state's population includes 42.41per cent OBCs and 3.48 per cent EWSs.
Baghel further said he has requested MLAs of all parties to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the leadership of the Assembly speaker and request him to enlist these amendment bills under Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

Chaurasia, considered a powerful bureaucrat of the state, was taken into custody under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) post her questioning by the federal agency.

The ED on Friday arrested Saumya Chaurasia, a deputy secretary rank officer posted in Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's office, in connection with a money laundering investigation into an alleged coal levy scam in the state, official sources said.
Chaurasia, considered a powerful bureaucrat of the state, was taken into custody under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) post her questioning by the federal agency.
The officer was taken for a health checkup after the arrest even as the local media followed her along with the ED team, escorted by CRPF personnel, to the court.
The agency had in October arrested Sameer Vishnoi, an IAS officer of the state, and two others, after conducting several raids in the case.
The money laundering investigation, launched after the ED took cognisance of a Income Tax department complaint, pertains to "a massive scam in which illegal levy of Rs 25 per tonne is being extorted from every tonne of coal transported in Chhattisgarh by a cartel involving senior bureaucrats, businessmen, politicians and middlemen." Baghel, last week while speaking to reporters, stepped up his attack on the ED, accusing the probe agency of crossing its limits and treating people inhumanely in the state.

Chhattishgarh&rsquo;s Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has rejected claims made by the state health minister TS Singh Deo about &nbsp;a rotation policy for the chief minister&rsquo;s post.
Deo has staked claim to the post by saying that when Congress won the state in 2018 a rotation policy had been agreed upon.
Baghel&rsquo;s comment came after he held a nearly three-hour meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi during which he invited the latter to visit Chhattishgarh. Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit the state as early as next week.
