Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in Delhi on Saturday in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam, after skipping three previous dates, officials said.

On March 15, a special CBI court granted bail to Yadav's father Lalu Prasad, mother Rabri Devi -- both former Bihar chief ministers -- sister Misa Bharti and others in the land-for-jobs "scam" case.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in Delhi on Saturday in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam, after skipping three previous dates, officials said.
The CBI had given an assurance to the Delhi High Court last week that it would not arrest Yadav this month. According to the RJD leader's counsel, Maninder Singh, Yadav had conveyed to the federal agency that he would require some time to appear before its sleuths as the ongoing Bihar Assembly session is scheduled to conclude on April 5.
On March 15, a special CBI court granted bail to Yadav's father Lalu Prasad, mother Rabri Devi -- both former Bihar chief ministers -- sister Misa Bharti and others in the land-for-jobs "scam" case.
The CBI's investigation against the Yadav family and others is part of its ongoing probe into documents and evidence that surfaced after the first chargesheet was submitted and also into the alleged roles of the accused that could not be completed by the time the initial report was filed, according to officials.
The officials also said the fresh round of questioning of the accused is taking place as part of the "further investigation" based on fresh inputs gathered during the agency's ongoing probe.
The CBI has alleged that during Lalu Prasad's tenure as the railway minister in the UPA government from 2004 to 2009, favourite candidates were appointed in the railways in violation of norms and procedures, without any advertisement or public notice. The agency has claimed that substitutes from Patna were appointed in various zonal railways located in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hazipur.
As a quid pro quo, the candidates, either directly or through their immediate family members, allegedly sold land to Prasad's family members at highly-discounted rates.

The Enforcement (ED) Friday conducted searches in multiple cities of Bihar in connection with a money laundering investigation into the land for jobs 'scam' case in which RJD leaders Lalu Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi were questioned recently by the CBI.
The searches are covering some leaders linked to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in towns like Patna and Phulwari Sharif, officials said.
The case pertains to people allegedly given employment in the railways in return for land parcels gifted or sold at cheap rates to the Yadav family and its associates, they said. The CBI has filed a charge sheet in the case against Prasad, his wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi and 14 others under charges of criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and all the accused have been summoned on March 15, officials had said.
The ED case, filed under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, stems from this CBI complaint.

Three villagers were killed in Gaya district of Bihar when an Army mortar shell fell and exploded well outside the firing range in the early hours of Wednesday, a senior police officer said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Gaya, Ashish Bharti said the incident took place in Gularved village, falling under Barachatti police station area, where six people got injured when the mortar shell fell and burst.
All of them were rushed to the Anugraha Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital in the town where three of the injured villagers, including a woman, died while undergoing treatment.

"We are satisfied by the steps taken by Tamil Nadu government and the district administration in ensuring safety of the workers to allay the fears from their minds," he said.

A day after holding talks with Tamil Nadu government authorities over the brewing migrant workers issue in Chennai, the official delegation from Bihar visited knitwear hub Tirupur on Sunday to check on the safety of workers from the northern state after fake videos claiming attacks on the workforce had led to panic among them.
Led by Bihar Rural Development Secretary D Balamurugan, the four-member team expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by Tamil Nadu government and the Tirupur district administration to ensure safety and protection of the workers.
They discussed the issue with the officials including District Collector S Vineeth and Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar, representatives of textile industry and contractors who bring in workers from other states, Balamurugan said.
The delegation also interacted with the workers and told them not to believe in rumours and fake videos, after which they regained their confidence, as many of them considered the information coming from them to be true, the senior officer said.

A CBI team on Monday visited the residence of former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi in connection with "further probe" in the land for jobs scam case, officials said.
There is no search or raid taking place, they said. &nbsp;The CBI had already filed its charge sheet in the case and the special court has summoned the accused, including former Railways Minister Lalu Prasad and his family members and others on March 15, they said.
The agency has kept the further probe open into the alleged scam case, they said. &nbsp;The visit of the CBI team is in connection with further investigation in the case, they said.
It was alleged in the FIR that some persons, although residents of Patna in Bihar, were appointed as substitutes in Group-D posts during the period 2004-2009 in different zones of the railways located in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hajipur and in lieu thereof, the individuals themselves or their family members transferred their land in the name of family members of Prasad and a company, AK Infosystems Private Limited, which was subsequently taken over by family members of Prasad.
It was further alleged that about 1,05,292 sq. ft. land situated in Patna was acquired by the family members of Prasad from those persons through five sale deeds and two gift deeds and in most of the sale deeds, payment to the sellers was mentioned to be paid in cash.
The value of the land as per existing circle rate was about Rs 4.39 crore.
The land which was directly purchased by the family members of Prasad from the sellers at a rate lower than the prevalent circle rate. The prevalent market value of the land was much higher than the circle rate.
It was alleged that due procedure and guidelines issued by the railway authority for the appointment of substitutes was not followed and later on, their services had also been regularised.

Spokesperson of BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit Prashant Umrao tweeted that "12 migrants from Bihar were hung to death in Tamil Nadu for speaking in Hindi". Umrao tagged Bihar chief minister Tejashwi Yadav and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin in the tweet.
The tweet has since been deleted.&nbsp;
The Tamil Nadu police have charged Prashant Umrao for spreading enmity between people on linguistic and regional basis.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin assured the safety of migrant workers to its Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar over the phone.

Poonam Keshri, the SDPO of Mahua, said, "On 23 January, a case was filed under SC/ST Act for the building of martyr's memorial on the land of Harinath Ram by the accused."
"First a pillar was erected, then overnight, walls were built around it. Harinath Ram's land is being encroached upon, and his rights are being trampled," she added.
"There was repeated counselling, but he encroached upon the land, and also misbehaved with him," including the police officer in the litany of complaints against late soldier Jai Kishore Singh's father.

&nbsp;At least three people died and seven others were taken ill after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Bhopatpur sub-division of Siwan district of &ldquo;dry&rdquo; Bihar, officials said on Monday.
According to a statement issued by the district administration, 10 people were admitted to the district hospital in Siwan at around 7 pm on Sunday after they complained of stomach pain, nausea and dizziness.
&ldquo;While one person was declared brought dead by the doctors of the Siwan hospital, two persons died when they were taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). Seven people are presently admitted at the district hospital in Siwan&rdquo;, the statement said.
Locals said many among the seven, who fell ill, are in a serious condition.
Sale and consumption of liquor is banned in Bihar since April 2016.
The district administration said that the post-mortem reports of the deceased would ascertain the exact cause of death.
&ldquo;A team of security personnel have already been deployed in the area. The police station concerned has registered a case and is investigating the matter. Twelve people have so far been arrested in connection with the case&rdquo;, the statement said.
In December last year, spurious liquor allegedly claimed the lives of around 50 people in Saran district.
The incident had triggered a political slugfest in the Bihar Assembly, with opposition leaders mounting a strong attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the repeated incidents of spurious liquor deaths.
The BJP then claimed that over 100 deaths occurred due to the consumption of spurious liquor in Saran.

Two women police constables from Bihar's Gajipur district are being lauded for thwarting a robbery attempt.&nbsp; A senior police official told NDTV that the women will be rewarded for their courage.
The incident took place in broad daylight at Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank in Senduari Chowk where Juhi Kumari and Shanti Kumari were deployed.
The CCTV footage shows the two accused entering the bank and interacting with the women. When asked to show their documents, one of the two accused drew his pistol and charged at the police personnel which followed a scuffle.
As per an NDTV report, the robbers eventually fled the scene after being intimidated by the female constables and did not rob the bank.
Juhi who sustained injuries in the incident was about to shoot the robbers before they ran away to save their life, the report added. Search is on for the two accused, and a probe has been launched for the attempted robbery.

Union minister Ashwini Choubey broke down during a press conference on 16 January 2023 after receiving the news that BJP leader Parshuram Chaturvedi had passed away.
Choubey said, "In this agitation, he was with me constantly, like a shadow. He shivered in the cold at night. My brother Parshuram Chaturvedi was hungry and thirsty for 4 days, fasting for resolution of farm issues."
Speaking on the cause of death, the minister said, "I have just received news that he suffered a heart attack and died."
Chaturvedi was reportedly on a hunger strike in Bihar's Buxar to support farmers seeking higher compensation.
