Yadav released a press statement on Tuesday, lambasting Kumar for what he termed as "wasteful spending" of public funds amid rampant unemployment, inflation, and corruption in the state.
Highlighting the alleged misuse of taxpayer money, Yadav claimed that the Bihar government is prioritizing propaganda over addressing the pressing needs of its citizens. "For 20 years, Bihar has been thrown into the flames of wild unemployment, mass exodus, murderous inflation, rampant crime, and institutional corruption by Nitish Kumar&rsquo;s wasteful spending spree," Yadav asserted.

The RJD leader questioned the state&rsquo;s priorities, alleging that students and women are being denied basic facilities while funds are being diverted for self-promotion. "There is nothing on the ground for students and women, but billions of rupees are being looted by officials for propaganda," he said.
Yadav also criticized the government&rsquo;s claims of progress, particularly the implementation of smart meters, as an attempt to mask administrative failures. He pointed to various issues, including widespread corruption, crumbling infrastructure, rising crime, unemployment, and the failure of the state's prohibition policy.
"The pain of livelihoods, hundreds of bridges destroyed due to corruption, uncontrolled crime, unbridled inflation, record-breaking unemployment, administrative chaos, and injustice cannot be concealed," he stated.
Tejashwi accused the government of indulging in what he described as an "election picnic" while the state's citizens suffer. "Nitish Kumar is spending ₹2.25 billion on dialogue around 'zero issues' instead of addressing the real problems plaguing the state," Yadav remarked, adding that the move reflects misplaced priorities and disregard for the welfare of the people.

The Bihar government has suspended 16 engineers after 10 bridges collapsed in the state over a fortnight.&nbsp;

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered an inspection report of all the bridges that are under construction and the old bridges in the state within two weeks, The Indian Express reported.&nbsp;
Since June June 18, 10 bridges have collapsed in Kishanganj, Araria, East Champaran, Madhubani, Siwan and Saran.&nbsp;
The bridge collapse incident caused a political storm in the state, with the ruling Nitish Kumar government blaming the then deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav for not framing good bridge maintenance policy when he was the state's road and construction and building minister.

A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Bihar government to undertake a structural audit and set up an expert committee to identify bridges that can be either strengthened or demolished based on the findings.
Ten incidents of bridge collapse have been reported in Bihar's Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran and Kishanganj districts in over a fortnight. Many have claimed that heavy rainfall might have contributed to the incidents.
The PIL, filed by advocate and petitioner Brajesh Singh, raised concerns about the safety and longevity of the bridges in the state that witnesses floods and heavy rains during monsoon.
Besides setting up a high-level expert panel, it also sought real-time monitoring of the bridges as per the parameters of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
In the PIL, the petitioner said it was a matter of grave concern that Bihar is the most flood-prone state in India. The total flood-affected area in the state is 68,800 square km which is 73.06 per cent of its total geographical area, the PIL stated.
"Hence such routine accrual of the incident of falling bridges in Bihar is more disastrous as the lives of people at large are at stake. Therefore the urgent intervention of this court is required to save the lives of people, as the under-construction bridges before its accomplishment collapsed routinely," the petitioner said.
In view of the bridge collapse incidents, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed the road construction and rural works departments to conduct a survey of all old bridges in the state and identify those that require immediate repair.&nbsp;

A small bridge collapsed in Siwan district on Saturday in the second incident of its kind in Bihar in less than a week, officials said.
The bridge was erected over a canal, connecting the villages of Daraunda and Maharajganj blocks, and it caved in at around 5 am, said District Magistrate Mukul Kumar Gupta.
"Nobody was injured in the incident. It was a very old structure and apparently, pillars caved in when water was released through the canal. We are trying to ensure that until it is restored, residents of affected villages face as little inconvenience as possible," the DM told PTI.
Daraunda BDO Surya Pratap Singh said, "Locals claim the bridge was built way back in 1991 with contributions from the then Maharajganj MLA Uma Shankar Singh".
Anil Kumar, the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Maharajganj, confirmed that the "the 20 feet long brick structure" had been built through MLA's local area development fund and added, "based on the investigation report further action will be taken".
Earlier, on Tuesday, a newly constructed bridge, about 180 metres long, had collapsed in the Araria district, prompting the Rural Works Department to initiate departmental action against officials concerned.
Notably, Bihar has been witness to several mishaps involving bridges, large and small, constructed over rivers and other water bodies.
Though such incidents have not resulted in casualties, these have led to questions being raised on the quality of public works.&nbsp;

Six persons went missing after a boat capsized in the Ganga river in Barh sub-division of Patna district on Sunday, officials said.
"The mishap took place at around 9.15 am near Umanath ganga ghat when the boat carrying 17 people, mostly belonging to a family, overturned midway. The boat overturned and sank in the middle of the Ganga river. While 11 people have been rescued so far&hellip;some of them managed to swim to safety and reach the shore of the river, six are still missing," Shubham Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Barh) told reporters.
On getting information, officials of the district administration and police personnel reached the spot and started rescue operations with the help of locals to trace the whereabouts of the missing occupants of the ill-fated boat, said the SDM.
The search operation is on to trace the six missing persons, he said.
"We are also engaging personnel of the state disaster relief force. We are trying to ascertain the identity of the missing persons," the SDM added.

In a horrific incident, a final year undergraduate student was beaten to death on the law college campus of Patna University by some unidentified persons on Monday. The deceased identified as Harsh Raj was a student of BN College, Patna University. According to police, the main accused in the case has been nabbed.
During investigation it came to fore that Harsh was beaten to death over a heated altercation he had last year. The argument was allegedly over a Dandiya night.&nbsp;
The incident took place when the 22-year-old student was coming out from his examination centre in the afternoon, the police added.
"Information was received that a student, who had gone to appear for his graduation examination on the law college campus under the jurisdiction of Sultanganj Police Station, was beaten up by some unknown people. He was injured. The police reached the spot and took him to the hospital, where he died during treatment", said the Patna police in a statement.

This is that time of the year, when Bihar is covered with litchi all over. The rising mercury is changing their hues, from rich green to pink, and red. Bihar produces almost half of the country&rsquo;s litchi.
<h3>Heat hurts Litchi</h3>
As per Business Standard, rising heat is expected to cut the production of litchi by about 50-60%. The report quoted Bindersar Persad Shah, 70, who has been growing &lsquo;Shahi Litchi&rsquo; for over five decades on more than 30 acres of land in Muzaffarpur and said that little has improved when it comes to the storage and transportation as his fresh crop struggles to reach markets. Muzaffarpur is a district which produces the maximum litchi.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The shelf life of litchi is very short, hence we need more cargo and parcel vans in trains,&rdquo; Shah said.
Expressing similar emotions, BP Singh, president of the Litchi Growers Association of India said that &nbsp;lack of proper transport facility has been an hindrance to take the produce outside the state, especially to the southern part of the country where the demand for litchi is huge.
&ldquo;There is a huge demand for litchi in the southern part of India. But due to the lack of transportation, we fail to fulfil the demand,&rdquo; said BP Singh, president of the Litchi Growers Association of India.&nbsp;
The Business Standard report quoted another litchi farmer MD Nurva and said that they lose the value on their produce as they are forced to sell them traders and major processor within a few days.
&ldquo;Due to the lack of cooling facilities and transportation, we need to sell our litchi within a few days. As litchi has a short shelf life, traders and major processors play a significant role. We have to sell our crops to them at lower prices, leading to losses in our value&rdquo;, MD Nurva told Business Standard
Meanwhile, after several requests by the litchi farmers, the Centre added a parcel van to the Pawan Express, which helps us to transport litchi to Mumbai.
&ldquo;The local support from our MP is nil. He never comes to see our farms. However, after several requests made by us to the Centre, a parcel van was added to the Pawan Express, which helps us to transport litchi to Mumbai,&rdquo; Krishna Singh, a 34-year-old farmer told Business Standard.
<h3>Demand for Litchi</h3>
The Business Standard report quoted Bikash Das, Director of ICAR-NRC on Litchi and said that the global litchi market is worth over $6 billion and India need to increase the area of litchi production to meet this total global demand.
He further said that the lack of adequate cooling infrastructure has made the export of fresh litchis low.
&ldquo;After plucking fresh litchi, its shelf life is only two days. That is a real challenge, hence quick transportation is needed, in which we are lacking. Due to which the export of fresh litchi is very low. In terms of value, total exports were Rs 2.57 crore. We are only able to export to west Asian countries. Cool chain-based technology has been somewhat helpful, but we lack adequate infrastructure,&rdquo; Das told Business Standard
<h3>Litchi pulp market</h3>
Meanwhile, Litchi's pulp market has grown in the last few years, according to Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). The data shows that the export of litchi from India increased from 193.86 MT in the Financial Year 2021-22 to 567.08 MT in FY22-23.
The Business Standard report quoted one of the largest exporters of litchi pulp Alok Kedia and said that in FY24 350 tonnes of litchi pulp to the US, UK, and Canada markets and are targetting to reach 500 tonnes in FY25.
&ldquo;In Financial Year 2023-24, we exported over 350 tonnes of litchi pulp to the US, UK, and Canada markets. For FY25, we are targeting to reach 500 tonnes. All the data we see on APEDA pertains to litchi pulp. Its fresh export market is very low,&rdquo; said Kedia.

In Bihar, Khokhanaha village in Supaul's Kodi region is going to boycott the Lok Sabha elections. Over the years, villagers have borne the brunt of the Kosi River that cut through their village, and while in spate sweeps numerous households and farms. Due to this, the village now exists on an island between two streams of the Kosi.
For the basic necessities, the villagers travel five kilometres to Supaul but that takes them an entire day to visit the town. Residents of the village that has 300 houses say that the government has done nothing for them.&nbsp;
A villager told The Indian Express, "Our state is worse than nomads&hellip; they also stay in one place for a couple of years. We become homeless every year. After the government did not do anything to help us, we decided to boycott polls, but nothing happened even after that."
The villagers had also boycotted the polls 2019 general assembly elections and the state election a year later. Voting in Supaul is scheduled for May 7.&nbsp;

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was on Sunday trolled on social media for predicting that the NDA will win "more than 4,000 seats", several times the sanctioned strength of Lok Sabha.
Kumar, who heads the JD(U) and returned to the BJP-led coalition less than three months ago, made the faux pas at a rally in Nawada district where he spoke before Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a portion of his speech that has gone viral, Kumar can be heard fumbling "char lakh (four lakh)", before correcting himself and uttering "char hazaar se bhi zyada (more than 4,000)", while turning towards the PM whom he has been wishing a "400 plus tally" in the elections.
Predictably, many RJD leaders, including its spokesperson Sarika Paswan, shared the video of Kumar who had lambasted the party's president Lalu Prasad and the latter&rsquo;s wife Rabri Devi for their alleged dismal performance as chief ministers of Bihar.
"The chief minister wanted to wish more than four lakh MPs to the PM. Then he probably thought it would be too much and 4,000 would be sufficient," Paswan wrote on X in a post in Hindi.
On the wrong side of 70, Kumar, the longest-serving chief minister of Bihar, has been in the news for slips of the tongue on a few occasions.
His earlier reference to himself as a former union home minister was ridiculed by the BJP, which was then in the opposition and had alleged that the veteran leader was betraying senility.
Meanwhile, JD(U) leaders declined to comment on the Nawada episode.&nbsp;

One person was killed and several others were feared trapped as a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Bihar's Supaul district in the early hours of Friday, officials said.
The bridge was being constructed over the Koshi river, they said.
District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar said senior officers of the administration were at the spot, near Maricha between Bakur and Bheja, where the incident took place.
"One labourer has died and another sustained injuries. Rescue work is underway," he said.&nbsp;

BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde said that BJP will contest in 17 seats, JDU will contest in 16 seats, and Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party will contest in five seats.
Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustan Awam Morcha and Upendra Kushwaha's RLM have been given one seat each.
"The BJP will contest 17 out of the total 40 seats and the JD(U) will contest 16. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will contest five seats," Tawde said at the presser jointly addressed by NDA allies from the state.
Bihar LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Raju Tiwari said Chirag Paswan will contest from the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, which has been given to the party under the seat-sharing pact.
With Union minister Pashupati Paras's LJP faction finding no mention in the seat-sharing deal, Bihar BJP chief Samrat Choudhary said that talks are going on with him.

A videographer was shot dead in Bihar&rsquo;s Darbhanga district on February 28 after he failed to record a birthday celebration after his camera&rsquo;s battery ran out.
The deceased, 22-year-old Sushil Kumar Sahni, was a resident of Darbhanga&rsquo;s Makhnaha village. He was hired to record the birthday celebration of the accused Rakesh Sahni&rsquo;s daughter. However his camera&rsquo;s battery got discharged midway through the party.
The enraged father abused Sushil and shot him in the mouth. The accused and his friends then left Sushil at the gate of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital before running away. The hospital staff rushed the victim to the emergency ward where he was declared dead during the treatment. &nbsp;&nbsp;
Villagers took to the streets demanding immediate arrest of the accused, and blocked traffic at the Laheriasarai main road on February 29. They dispersed after Benipur SDPO Sumit Kumar reached the spot and assured immediate action. &nbsp;
Kumar said, &ldquo;Father of the deceased has lodged an FIR against Rakesh, who is absconding after the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that Rakesh is also involved in illegal liquor trade. We have detained three persons for interrogation in this connection, and raids are being conducted to nab the accused.&rdquo;&nbsp;

At least nine people were killed and several injured after a truck and a tempo collided head-on in Bihar's Lakhisarai district in the wee hours of Wednesday, police said.
The incident took place at Biharaura village along Lakhisarai-Sikandra main road. The tempo, which was carrying around 15 passengers, was coming from the opposite direction at the time of the collision, police added.
Among the deceased are Veer Paswan, Vikas Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Dibana Paswan, Amit Kumar, Monu Kumar, Kisan Kumar, and Manoj Goswami, with most of them hailing from Munger.
Talking to PTI, Lakshisarai SP Pankaj Kumar said, "The accident took place around 3 am on the Lakhisarai-Sikandra main road. While nine people died on the spot, several others sustained injuries. All injured were taken to the nearest government hospital".
The victims were returning from a wedding ceremony when the accident took place, he said, adding that the driver of the truck fled the spot.
"The truck has been seized by police and investigation is on", the SP added.&nbsp;

The police and district officials had to be called in after an argument over immersion of Saraswati idols led to violence in Bihar's Darbhanga.&nbsp;
According to District Magistrate Rajeev Raushan, two groups started quarrelling over which turn needs to be taken by the immersion procession.&nbsp;
Saraswati Puja was celebrated in parts of the country on February 14.&nbsp;
Raushan said that the police and district officials brought the situation under control and the immersion was completed.&nbsp;
He said that there was stone pelting during the brawl and sheds of some houses were also damaged in the violence.&nbsp;
Raushan said that the culprits will be identied and action will taken against them. He also urged the public to celebrate festivals with the spirit of harmony.&nbsp;

Yadav, who had been restrained ever since the upheaval a fortnight ago when Kumar made a return to the NDA fold, vented spleen on the floor of the state assembly.

Ahead of the floor test in Bihar Assembly, heavy police force was deployed outside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's house in Patna.
The party alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar got Yadav's house surrounded by thousands of police personnel in a bid to cause an untoward incident with the MLAs.
The RJD said that the people are watching the CM's misdeed and that the party will not bow down in the ongoing ideological struggle.
"Nitish Kumar has sent thousands of police and surrounded Tejashwi ji's residence from all sides. They want to enter the residence on any pretext and do untoward incidents with the MLAs," read a post on the official X handle of RJD.
The party added that it will not 'bow down' in the ongoing 'ideological struggle'.
"The people of Bihar are watching the misdeeds of Nitish Kumar and the police. Remember, we are not among those who fear and bow down. This is a struggle of ideology and we will fight it and win because the justice-loving people of Bihar will oppose this police repression. Jai Bihar! Jai Hind," the party said.
