Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who is also one of the richest people in the world, isn't planning to retire anytime soon. He wants to keep going just like his longtime friend and legendary investor Warren Buffett, who's still going strong in his 90s!.
In a recent conversation with CNBC Make It, Bill Gates brushed off any notion of retirement. The 68-year-old Microsoft co-founder expressed his desire to emulate Warren Buffett, who continues to run Berkshire Hathaway at the age of 94.
Gates made it clear that the prospect of scaling back his workdays holds no allure for him. His ambition? To maintain his full-time work schedule for at least another decade, or as long as his health permits! &nbsp; So, what's keeping the tech mogul busy? For one, he serves as a technology advisor to Microsoft, the tech giant he co-founded back in 1975. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Gates devotes a significant portion of his time to tackling some of the world's most pressing issues.
These global challenges - ranging from disease and poverty to climate change and gaps in healthcare and education access - take centre stage in his five-part Netflix docuseries, aptly titled "What's Next? The Future With Bill Gates."
While Gates still has a lot on his plate, and he still aims to work full-time for many more years to come, his current schedule is a far cry from the intensity of his early career. In fact, it was Warren Buffett who convinced Gates he should take it easier.
In a joint interview with Buffett in 2017, Bill Gates recounted Buffett's advice, "You don't have to fill every minute in your schedule to be a serious businessperson."
These instances show how close Bill Gates is to Warren Buffett, and the deep impact the Oracle of Omaha has had on the tech titan over the last few decades. But how did their friendship begin?
According to The New York Times, Gates and Buffett's friendship began in 1991 when Bill Gates's mother, Mary Gates, invited Buffett to their family retreat at Hood Canal near Seattle for the Fourth of July.
Gates initially saw Buffett as just a "stockbroker," but after spending 11 hours talking about everything from business to philanthropy, they hit it off. This was the start of a lasting friendship that has endured for decades, despite their very different personalities.
Their shared values were clear when Buffett, inspired by Andrew Carnegie's belief in using wealth for the greater good, made headlines in 2006. Buffett donated most of his fortune to charity, including a large portion to the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation to address global issues like healthcare, education, and poverty.
However, as happens with many friendships, reportedly some differences have crept up between the two billionaires in recent times. Gates hasn't mentioned Buffett much on his blog lately, and Buffett has reportedly cut back on interactions due to his age.
According to The New York Times, Buffett has also been frustrated with the Gates Foundation's management. He prefers efficiency and simplicity and has criticised the foundation for being too bureaucratic and costly.
However, publicly Gates and Buffett continue to say their friendship is still strong. Both of them continue to speak highly of each other. Gates values Buffett's contributions to their charitable work, and Buffett often recalls their shared good times and laughs with fondness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday identified agriculture, education and health as three sectors where he is most excited about the use of technology, and highlighted related efforts of his government in these fields.
In an interaction with philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates on a host of issues, including technology, its use in different sectors and climate change, Modi said he used to hear of digital divide in the world and had decided that he will not allow this to happen in India.
He also said he wants to allocate funds to scientists for local research in cervical cancer to develop vaccines at a minimal cost and that his new government will work to ensure vaccination, especially for all girls, against the serious disease.
Modi has frequently expressed confidence that the ruling BJP will get a big majority in the general elections and he will return to power for a third straight term.
There is a requirement for digital public infrastructure, the prime minister said, with Gates praising India's adoption of technology and saying India is leading the way.
Modi noted that there is a significant risk of misuse of a powerful technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially when placed in unskilled hands, and suggested that AI-generated content should carry clear watermarks to prevent misinformation.
This is not meant to devalue AI creations but recognising them for what they are, the prime minister said. He said there is a need to establish some dos and don'ts.
"In the case of deepfakes, it is crucial to acknowledge and present that a particular deepfake content is AI-generated along with the mention of its source. These measures are really important, especially in the beginning," he asserted.
Discussing the issue of AI, he said it should not be seen as a magic tool or something people should resort to out of their laziness to do some work.
Modi explained how he used AI in the G20 Summit as interpreter and also to broadcast his addresses in different languages in several events. A technology like ChatGPT should be used to constantly improve oneself, he added.
Highlighting his use of AI, Modi asked Gates to take a selfie through his (NaMo) app and then showed him how it could be located through the face-recognition technology.
Discussing the issue of climate change, Modi said the world needs to change parameters like use of electricity or steel to define development as it is anti-climate and should instead adopt terminologies like green GDP and green employment.
Recycling and reuse have been part of Indians' nature, he said, mentioning that the jacket he was wearing was a recycled product.
Modi said he believes in leveraging technology not just to enhance services but also to significantly improve the ease of living for citizens.
The prime minister said his government initiated storage of all university certificates in cloud storage to reduce costs and to fulfil various needs efficiently.
"Earlier, there was a push for stringent compliance requirements. But I advocated and ensured simplification, and made certain that data is uploaded to cloud (storage) with shared IDs, enabling us to access necessary information directly," Modi said.
Data security remains a paramount concern, he said and added that India has a legal framework in place but public awareness is equally crucial.
The prime minister reiterated that he wanted to lead a government in which any unnecessary governmental intervention from the lives of people is eliminated.
For those in poverty, who genuinely require government assistance, the assistance should be readily available in abundance, he added.
He said India has been making rapid advancement in the field of renewable energy and is working to boost its growth in green hydrogen.
Modi credited "democratisation of technology" to rule out any monopoly for digital revolution in India as it gives everyone an equal opportunity.
"It is by the people and for the people. We are committed to ensure that emerging talent from within the community can continuously contribute and enhance its value to foster trust in technology among people," he said.
He added that he is taking technology to villages and cited linking up of over two lakh health centres to the best of hospitals with technology to ensure quality treatment of people.
To a query from Gates, Prime Minister Modi said he is fascinated by technology but is not a slave to it. "I am not an expert but have childlike curiosity for technology," he said.
On the digital revolution in India, the prime minister said he believed that nobody should have monopoly over it and it should be driven by the common people.
In this context, he highlighted the "Drone Didi" scheme for women to use drones in agriculture and the initiative to provide long-distance treatment to patients.
Technology can help make agriculture modern and scientific, and is being used to plug the shortcomings of teachers in education as well, Modi said.
He said digital technology will have a big role in the fourth industrial revolution and he is confident that India will do well.
Modi noted as to how India used the CoWin platform to provide Covid vaccination slots and certificates to people while the world was struggling to do it during the pandemic.

As his share of the profits grew substantially, he eventually exchanged it for a substantial equity stake, according to Forbes.
Over the years, Ballmer steadily climbed the corporate ladder to become Microsoft's CEO in 2000. He retired from this position in 2014, holding 333 million shares, equivalent to a 4% stake, as indicated in regulatory filings. Bloomberg assumes that he has retained most of these shares, valuing them at over $100 billion today, based on Microsoft's current stock price. He is also likely to have accumulated billions of dollars in dividends during this time.&nbsp;

It's important to note that Ballmer stands out among the top 10 richest people on Bloomberg's rich list. Unlike individuals such as Elon Musk, Bernard Arnault, Jeff Bezos, and others, who amassed their wealth through companies they founded or currently lead, Ballmer is neither the founder nor the current CEO of Microsoft.
If he does manage to surpass Bill Gates, who has diversified his wealth away from Microsoft stock and made significant donations to the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation and other charitable causes, it would be a rare case where an employee becomes wealthier than the founder of the company.

In his latest blog post, Gates focused on how global health and climate change are inextricably related as he pointed to the use of local innovations in tackling climate change and health citing India as a proof

&nbsp;India gives hope for the future and proved that the country could solve the big problems at once even when the world is facing multiple crises, Microsoft cofounder and Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation co-chair Bill Gates said in his blog "Gates Notes".
In his blog, Bill Gates said that he believed that with the right innovations and delivery channels the world is capable of making progress on lots of big problems at once, even at a time when the world is facing multiple crises and usually he received the response like, "There isn't enough time or money to solve both at the same time."
But India proved all the responses wrong. "There is no better proof than the remarkable progress that India has accomplished," Mr Gates said in his blog.
 "India as a whole gives me hope for the future. It's about to become the world's most populous country, which means you can't solve most problems there without solving them at scale. And yet, India has proven it can tackle big challenges. The country eradicated polio, lowered HIV transmission, reduced poverty, cut infant mortality, and increased access to sanitation and financial services," he added.
Microsoft's co-founder also stated that India has developed a world-leading approach to innovation that ensures solutions reach those who need them. When the rotavirus vaccine, which prevents the virus that causes many fatal cases of diarrhoea, was too expensive to reach every child, India decided to make the vaccine itself.
India worked with experts and funders (including the Gates Foundation) to build factories and create large-scale delivery channels to distribute the vaccines. By 2021, 83 per cent of 1-year-olds had been inoculated against rotavirus, and these low-cost vaccines are now being used in other countries around the world, Mr Gates said.
While talking about its funding in India's Indian Agricultural Research Institute, or IARI, in Pusa, Bill Gates said, "The Gates Foundation joined hands with India's public sector and CGIAR institutions to support the work of researchers at IARI. They found a new solution: chickpea varieties that have more than 10 per cent higher yields and are more drought-resistant. One variety is already available to farmers, and others are currently developing at the institute. As a result, India is better prepared to keep feeding its people and supporting its farmers even in a warming world. It's no exaggeration to say that India's agricultural future is growing right now in a field in Pusa."
"One of the reasons why challenges like climate, hunger, and health seem insurmountable is that we don't yet have all the tools to solve them. But I'm optimistic that one day soon we will, thanks in part to innovators like researchers at IARI," he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared Gates' blog published in one of the media publications.
In his blog, Mr Gates also informed that he is coming to India next week to see the work being done by innovators and entrepreneurs. Some are working on breakthroughs that will help the world to mitigate the effects of climate change, like the work being done by Breakthrough Energy Fellow Vidyut Mohan and his team to turn waste into biofuels and fertilizers in remote agricultural communities.
"Others are finding new ways to help people adapt to a warmer world, such as IARI's efforts to create more drought-tolerant crops. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress that's already underway by both the Gates Foundation's and Breakthrough Energy's amazing partners," Bill Gates said.
"Like every other country on the planet, India has limited resources. But it has shown us how the world can still make progress in spite of that constraint. By collaborating and trying novel approaches, the public, private, and philanthropic sectors can turn limited resources into big pools of funding and knowledge that lead to progress. If we work together, I believe we can fight climate change and improve global health at the same time," he added.
