Delhi's beloved literary haven, The Bookshop, will sadly close its doors on October 31st. Yet, a glimmer of hope shines through for devoted book enthusiasts.

One of Delhi's oldest bookstores, The Bookshop, holds a special place in the hearts of readers and has been a literary cornerstone in the city for generations.
The iconic bookstore, "The Bookshop," located in Jor Bagh, New Delhi is shutting down after 52 years. The news of the same was shared by the owner&rsquo;s daughter Rachna Singh, through social media. The book store with two branches one in Khan and another one located in Jor Bagh market, was opened by KD Singh in 1971. The Khan market one closed in 2006.
Rachna on her Facebook shared - "Dear friends of The Book Shop, It is with sadness that I would like to announce that on 31 October 2023 The Book Shop will down its shutters&mdash;and we will dissolve the partnership that owns it. The Book Shop was founded by my parents, KD and Nini Singh, over 50 years ago. I first entered it when it was two years old, and I quite literally grew up among its bookshelves. And, for all these decades, it was an integral part of the lives of my siblings and I and that is why the sadness I feel as I write this message of farewell is bigger and wider and deeper and more intense than I thought possible. But there is a time for everything. As it is said, to everything there is a season, The Book Shop, too, has had its season, now it&rsquo;s time to move on. But before I go I would like to thank you, our readers, who were responsible for making The Book Shop what it was."

However, there's a silver lining as some of its dedicated staff members are planning to open a new bookstore, called 'The Bookshop Inc' somewhere near Lodhi market. This transition will ensure that the spirit of The Bookshop will live on in a different form, offering a fresh chapter for book enthusiasts in the city. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Amid the ongoing Islamic festival of Ramzan, the Indian Army organised an iftaar event in Srinagar. Top Army officers, including Lt Gen DP Pandey, were seen participating in the iftaar event, which was followed by offering of namaaz.
Lt Gen DP Pandey is General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Indian Army. General Officers Commanding of the Victor Force, the Kilo Force, and 31 Sub Area also participated. The iftaar was held after a meeting with local citizens from various parts of the Valley.
Prior to the iftaar gathering, a book release event was held. The book was "House of Terror", a biography of Anwar alias Umar, who was a terrorist who became an Ikhwan, a member of the government-backed militia. The book highlights "the process of radicalisation of youth by Pakistan and its hybrid terrorists and overground workers (OGWs) in Kashmir, since 1980", according to the Army press release.
The venue of the events was the Old Air Field in Jammu and Kashmir's capital Srinagar.

Social media users claimed that on Page 122, the book spoke about the "merits of dowry". One of the most questionable passages said, "Ugly looking girls can be married off with attractive dowry with well or ugly looking boys." Among the other "merits", were claims that dowry is helpful in "establishing new households", the "girl receives a share of the parental property", and parents educating girls because of the burden of dowry.
Reacting to the viral news, the Indian Nursing Council said, "It has been brought to the notice of the Indian Nursing Council that some authors of Sociology for Nurses are quoting INC syllabus to publish substandard content in textbooks. INC strongly condemns any derogatory content which is against the prevailing law of the land.
