Ahan Shetty, the son of Bollywood star Suniel Shetty, is officially part of the cast for the much-anticipated film &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo;. The news was shared in a teaser video, creating buzz among fans and the industry.
The Instagram post announcing his inclusion read, &lsquo;Welcoming Fauji @ahan.shetty to the Battalion of #Border2,&rsquo; signaling Ahan&rsquo;s entry into the war film franchise.
Expressing his excitement, Ahan wrote, &lsquo;Border is more than a film&mdash;it&rsquo;s a legacy, an emotion, and a dream come true. Ironic how life works&mdash;my journey with Border started 29 years ago, when mom visited dad on set while pregnant with me. I grew up hearing OP Dutta&rsquo;s legendary stories, holding JP uncle&rsquo;s hand, and sitting by @nidhiduttaofficial side. I never realized how much those moments would shape my love for cinema and the Indian Armed Forces.
He added, &lsquo;Now, being part of Border 2 is an absolute honour. JP uncle, thank you for continuing to hold my hand, I hope to make you very very proud. Nidhi, your hard work brought this dream to life, thank you for all that you are and do. Ahan will star alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Sunny Deol in this war-drama. Directed by Anurag Singh, known for hits like Kesari and Punjab 1984, &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; is set to hit theatres on January 23, 2026, and is touted as &lsquo;India's biggest war film.&rsquo;
The film was officially announced on June 13, 2024, marking the 27th anniversary of Border.

Following the huge success of &lsquo;Gadar 2&rsquo; in 2023, Sunny Deol is set to star in &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo;. The original film, directed by JP Dutta, was released 27 years ago and was a massive hit.&nbsp;
Sunny announced &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; on June 13 with an Instagram post. In the accompanying video, the actor states in a voiceover that he is returning to fulfill the promise he made two decades ago.

&lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; is being produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The film will be directed by Anurag Singh, who previously directed Akshay Kumar-starrer &lsquo;Kesari&rsquo;. He has also directed Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Punjabi film Punjab &lsquo;1984&rsquo;, and the first two films of the Punjabi romcom franchise &lsquo;Jatt &amp; Juliet&rsquo;.
About original &lsquo;Border&rsquo;
The original film featured an ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu, Rakhee, Pooja Bhatt, among others. There were rumors of Ayushmann Khurrana being part of Border 2, but his name was not included in the initial announcement. The 1997 film was based on the Battle of Longewala during the India-Pakistan war of 1971. The premise of &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; has not yet been announced by the makers.
According to the initial announcement, the film will include a revamped version of &lsquo;Sandese Aate Hain.&rsquo; The song is featured in the Instagram post, which also tags lyricist Javed Akhtar, original music composer Anu Malik, and singer Sonu Nigam. Javed won the National Film Award for the song&rsquo;s lyrics. The original song also featured Roop Kumar Rathod's vocals, but he was not nominated for many awards for the song. Nigam had expressed his grief about this in the past.
In a previous conversation with podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, Sunny mentioned that &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; was initially planned in 2015 but was shelved because his films were not doing well at the time.&nbsp;
&lsquo;We wanted to do this even earlier. I remember in 2015&hellip; But then my film didn&rsquo;t work. So people were scared to make it. Now everyone wants to make it,&rsquo; he said.&nbsp;

A source said, &lsquo;Border 2 is targeting to hit the big screen on Friday, January 23, 2026 &ndash; leading to the Republic Day holiday on Monday, January 26, 2026. Being a film celebrating the bravery of Indian Armed Forces, the makers feel that there is no better date than Republic Day for the arrival of this Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana film.&rsquo;
