Lula&rsquo;s team is using advanced technology like satellite imagery to track illegal activities in indigenous territories secluded from the outside world. &nbsp;With this approach, authorities can spot illegal mining and logging in real time, proving to be a game-changer in environmental protection.
His decision to create a dedicated ministry for the indigenous peoples has received global acclaim.
Lula has also created a system for tracing products exported from the Amazon, to ensure they are not sourced from deforested areas.
His administration is involving researchers and NGOs to ensure that every decision is effective.

Brazil was strongly favoured to win since October when FIFA brokered deals for the men's World Cups of 2030 and 2034. The US-Mexico decision to opt out and focus on bidding for the 2031 World Cup &mdash; that decision is due next year &mdash; was another indicator of Brazil's expected win.

"The solidarity is impressive," school director Resplande de Sa, 57, told AFP at a donation center as volunteers sorted through bedding, clothes and diapers.
Several prisons have sought federal assistance after being left without potable water, according to the non-governmental Criminal Justice Network.
At one jail, prisoners had to be moved to higher floors as floodwaters entered the complex.
The disaster has damaged more than 60,000 homes and devastated the economy of the largely agricultural state, which normally supplies more than two-thirds of the rice consumed in Brazil.
The federal government said Thursday it would set aside $10 billion for reconstruction of the region.

Robinho was sentenced in Italy to 9 years in prison for his part in a group sexual assault in 2013 when he played for AC Milan.
Brazil doesn't extradite nationals, which led Italy to seek his imprisonment in his home nation.
&ldquo;Brazil cannot be a shelter for criminals,&rdquo; judge Mauro Campbell Marques said during his vote.
Judges wrapped up their voting in less than a day. Most Brazilian legal analysts expected the court's decision to take days, possibly weeks.
The swift decision came on the same day a Spanish court decided that Brazilian soccer star Dani Alves could leave prison if he pays a bail of one million euros ($1.1 million) and hands over his passports while awaiting the appeal of his conviction for raping a woman in Barcelona.
Robinho's lawyer, Jos&eacute; Eduardo Alckmin, told the court at the start of Wednesday's hearing that his client wants a retrial in Brazil on the grounds of national sovereignty.
Alckmin added that without a habeas corpus Robinho could be jailed &ldquo;in a matter of days, it could even be hours.&rdquo; &ldquo;Robinho is available for our judiciary. If an officer gets there, he will comply. He will not oppose,&rdquo; the lawyer said.
The first judge to vote, Francisco Falc&atilde;o, said Robinho should serve his sentence in Brazil. He added that the former player cannot go unpunished and that diplomatic friction between Brazil and Italy could emerge if the sentence is not served.
&ldquo;There's no obstacle to validate the execution of his sentence. It was confirmed by a court in Milan, which is the competent authority in this case,&rdquo; Falc&atilde;o said. &ldquo;The conviction is final. The defendant was not put on trial in absence in Italy, he had representation.&rdquo; Judge Raul Ara&uacute;jo, one of the two who disagreed with the majority, argued Robinho cannot be jailed in Brazil for a conviction in Italy.

Robinho lives in Santos, outside Sao Paulo. He relinquished his passport to Brazilian authorities in March 2023. He continues to deny any wrongdoing and insists his sexual relations with the woman at a Milan bar were consensual.
The court also ruled it will be up to authorities in Santos to decide when and how to jail Robinho.
Lawyer Jacopo Gnocchi, who represented the victim, said he and his client were satisfied by the Brazil court's ruling &ldquo;We believe that this is the fair conclusion of a case that took place in Italy, with assurances for all the defendants who were then found guilty,&rdquo; Gnocchi told Brazilian news website UOL. &ldquo;We respected and we understood that the Brazilian Constitution does not allow the extradition (of its own citizens), but that does not change the fact that when the sentence is final it is fair... that the sentence is applied.&rdquo; The former footballer said in an interview with TV Record aired on Sunday that racism was to blame for his conviction in Italy.
&ldquo;I played only four years in Italy and I got tired of seeing stories of racism. Unfortunately that exists to this day. (The rape case) was in 2013, now we are in 2024. The same people who don't do anything against it (racism) are the ones who sentenced me,&rdquo; Robinho said.
Federal prosecutor Hindemburgo Chateaubriand reminded the judges during the session of some audio recordings obtained by Italian authorities in which Robinho discussed the case with friends.
&ldquo;I can't even say all he said because it would be too vulgar for this court,&rdquo; Chateaubriand said.
Brazilian media published some of those recordings last year.
&ldquo;We will punch her in her face. You will punch her in the face and say; What did I do to you?'&rdquo; Robinho tells a friend in one of the excerpts, during which he claims he did not take part of the rape.
In another dialogue, Robinho says &ldquo;that is why I am laughing, I don't care at all.&rdquo; Robinho rose to national fame in 2002 as a 18-year-old who led Santos to its first national title since the Pel&eacute; era. He did it again two years later as he became a prolific scorer with 21 goals in 36 matches in the Brazilian league.
In 2005, Robinho won the Confederations Cup with Brazil and left for Real Madrid, but he didn't stand out in a team that already had Ronaldo Naz&aacute;rio, Zinedine Zidane, and David Beckham.
He joined Manchester City in 2008 and one year later was accused of rape during a night out in Leeds. Police did not file charges.

A gunman wounded two people at Rio de Janeiro's main bus station Tuesday and held 16 passengers hostage for three hours before being convinced to surrender, police said.
There were scenes of panic as gunshots rang out in the afternoon at the Novo Rio station through which some 38,000 people pass daily, with buses headed for all regions of Brazil.
Witnesses said a man opened fire before boarding the bus, where he took hostage 16 people, including a child and six elderly persons, for reasons police have not disclosed.
An earlier police tally had a total of 17 hostages.
A 34-year-old man was shot in the chest and abdomen and was in a serious condition in hospital, said Rio health secretary Daniel Soranz.
A second person, also hospitalized, was less severely injured.
"The hostage-taker surrendered, he was arrested, all the hostages were released, they are safe," Colonel Marco Andrade of the military police announced about three hours after the crisis began.
The surrender came after agents from the elite Special Operations Battalion were deployed to the scene to conduct negotiations, according to police.
Officers had cordoned off the station after evacuating all employees and passengers, who crowded in the hundreds outside while police tried to reason with the gunman.
Images broadcast by the Globo news channel showed agents escorting a man in a colorful pink T-shirt, green Bermuda shorts and short hair towards a police van after the incident as passengers exited the bus, including a young woman with a baby in her arms.
The hostage-taker's identity has not been revealed, but Rio military police secretary Luiz Henrique Marinho said it appeared he had been trying to "flee" the city over "problems in his faction," in apparent reference to a criminal gang.
"At some point he felt threatened by someone, a person or a group, on the bus, and that's when he fired the shots," Marinho told Globo.
On social network X, Rio state Governor Claudio Castro praised the "exemplary" action of police in bringing the drama to a close.

The far-right leader said in a speech that he seeks "pacification to erase the past,&rdquo; taking a more conciliatory tone than when he was in office.
Bolsonaro is seeking to show his base is resilient as he is being investigated by federal police over his alleged role in the January 8, 2023, attacks on government buildings by his supporters over his election loss. He wants the dozens of people still in jail for those incidents to get pardons.
Bolsonaro is also accused of illegally receiving jewels from Saudi Arabia during his presidency.
Six blocks of Paulista Avenue filled with Bolsonaro supporters, many of them saying that he is being persecuted by Brazil's Supreme Court and that President Luiz In&aacute;cio Lula da Silva unfairly won his narrow victory in the 2022 election.
Some also carried Israeli flags as a show of defiance to the current president, who has received widespread criticism at home for comparing Israel's military offensive in Gaza to the Holocaust.

Bolsonaro is barred from running for office until 2030 due to two convictions of abuse of power, but he remains active in Brazilian politics as the main adversary for left-of-centre Lula. As this year's mayoral elections loom, candidates have split between the two leaders.
Some of Bolsonaro's allies aiming to unseat Lula in the 2026 elections also attended, including influential governors Tarcisio de Freitas of Sao Paulo state and Romeu Zema of Minas Gerais state. But other key politicians and business executives who aligned with him during his 2019-2022 presidency did not show up.
Carlos Melo, a political science professor at Insper University in Sao Paulo, predicted the pro-Bolsonaro event would not help the former president's legal situation.
&ldquo;The fact that Bolsonaro doesn't yield any power now reduces what he can do. Beforehand, we feared he could use the force of the armed forces. Now that is ruled out,&rdquo; Melo said. &ldquo;This new reality does not favor him with unpredictability and drama.&rdquo; The event showed, though, that Bolsonaro's message still resonates with many Brazilians, some of whom evidently favour any coup attempt that would put him in charge. The international football governing body communicated its concerns in a letter addressed to a Brazilian football executive, stating that the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) risks suspension if it proceeds with an election to replace the current president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, regardless of FIFA's advice.&nbsp;
On December 7, a court in Rio de Janeiro removed Rodrigues and his appointees at CBF due to irregularities in his election the previous year. This decision was later upheld by Brazil's two highest courts. FIFA, which traditionally opposes governmental or third-party interventions in its member associations, warned that such actions could result in Brazil, a five-time World Cup champion, being barred from major tournaments until the issue is resolved.
The Rio court also appointed Jos&eacute; Perdiz, head of Brazil's top sports court, to organize new presidential elections within 30 working days. FIFA, however, views this intervention as inappropriate, as stated in previous correspondence with CBF.
The warning letter was signed by FIFA&rsquo;s chief members&rsquo; association officer, Kenny Jean-Marie, and CONMEBOL&rsquo;s deputy secretary-general, Monserrat Jim&eacute;nez Garcia. Both FIFA and CONMEBOL plan to form a commission to discuss the matter in Brazil on January 8.
The letter emphasized, &ldquo;FIFA and CONMEBOL would like to strongly emphasize that, until such mission takes place, no decision affecting CBF, including any elections or call for elections, shall be taken. Should this not be respected, FIFA will have no other option but to submit the matter to its relevant decision-making body for consideration and decision, which might also include a suspension.&rdquo;
It further highlighted that a potential suspension by FIFA would result in CBF losing all membership rights and its teams becoming ineligible to participate in international competitions.
The letter also cautioned that irregular interference in its member associations could lead to sanctions, including suspension, as outlined in the FIFA Statutes.
Responding to FIFA's letter, Perdiz viewed it as a positive sign and reiterated his intention to conduct elections transparently within the established deadline.
No response was received from Rodrigues&rsquo; spokespersons regarding the AP&rsquo;s request for comment. Rodrigues, who succeeded Rog&eacute;rio Caboclo as interim president in 2021, faces legal issues, though not related to corruption as with his predecessors. His term runs through 2026.
This ruling against Rodrigues could impact Brazil&rsquo;s bid to host the Women&rsquo;s World Cup in 2027 and his plans to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as the national team coach next year.

The Embraer PT-SOG aircraft had taken off from Manaus, the Amazonas state capital and the biggest city in the Amazon, and was attempting to land in heavy rain when it crashed, local media reported.
The passengers were Brazilian tourists on their way to fish, the reports said.
Video footage posted by the Globo television network showed the plane lying on a muddy dirt track with the front part of the aircraft in green foliage. A couple of dozen people are seen standing nearby holding umbrellas.
The Brazilian Air Force sent a team from Manaus to collect information and preserve any evidence that could be used for the investigation into the crash, an Air Force statement said.

Nine people hit by bullets were taken to a state hospital, where they were declared dead, according to the statement, which said intelligence work had uncovered a meeting in Vila Cruzeiro among crime leaders who control the region.
Vila Cruzeiro has been the site of bloodshed during police operations in the past. A firefight in resulted in more than 20 deaths in May 2022, just months after another raid saw eight people killed.
The Rio de Janeiro state government&rsquo;s strategy for tackling violence and organized crime has come under criticism in recent years, particularly given there is little insight into officers' choice to dispense lethal force.
The practice isn't limited to Rio. The raid Wednesday morning came as the public security secretariat in neighbouring Sao Paulo state raised the death toll from a police operation there the previous day to 16 from 14. The prior figure had already meant the raid in the coastal city of Guaruja was that state's deadliest since 2006, according to news website G1.
Guaruja residents protested against police Wednesday, holding banners and walking amid large, stuffed dolls strewn on the ground in representation of the dead.
Over the weekend, three police operations targeting alleged drug traffickers in the northeastern state of Bahia resulted in 19 people being killed, local media reported.
