BSE Ltd raises buyback price to ₹1,080/share, representing 1.62% increase. Record date set for September 14, 2023

BSE has announced an upward revision of its share buyback offer price, coupled with the fixing of the record date for the buyback. The revised share buyback price now stands at ₹1,080 per share, marking a substantial increase from the previous ₹816 per share.
The BSE board has fixed the record date for the proposed share buyback at September 14, 2023. This date will serve as the reference point for determining the eligibility of shareholders who can participate in the buyback.
The new buyback price of ₹1,080 per share reflects a noteworthy 1.62% increase compared to the closing price of ₹1,062.75 per share on the day prior. Intriguingly, the stock price of BSE experienced a surge of more than 4%, reaching a 52-week high of ₹1,122.00 per share on the announcement day, which exceeds the raised buyback price.
The exchange revealed its decision in a regulatory filing, stating, "...the board approved&hellip; increase in the Buyback Offer Price from ₹816 per Equity Share to ₹1,080 per Equity Share, payable in cash, for an aggregate maximum amount not exceeding ₹374 crore."
Under the revised buyback plan, BSE will now repurchase 34.70 lakh equity shares, equivalent to a 2.56% stake in the company. This move follows a sharp rise of more than 50% in BSE's share price since the original buyback announcement. The plan for longer trading hours has once again been revived. As per reports, NSE is in preliminary discussions with market participants to extend trading hours in the equity F&amp;O segments.

Longer trading hours might soon become a reality.&nbsp; The plans for extending trading hours in the equity and futures and options segments have once again been revived.&nbsp; As per an Economics times report, the National stock exchange (NSE) is spearheading this effort, and is in intial discussions with market participants.&nbsp;
This is not the first time these discussions have come about. It has long been contented that the current trading hours in India have resulted in volumes shifting to offshore markets. Increasing the hours would help bring back volumes onshore. Longer trading hours would also help Indian investors to react faster to global events.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Currently, equity and derivatives platforms are open between 9.15 am and 3.30 pm. However, SEBI has already drawn up a framework that allows bourses to keep F&amp;O trading open until 11.55 pm and shares until 5 pm. It is now up to the exchanges to implement this, as no changes in rules are required from the market regulator's end.&nbsp;

Sensex hits record high, Nifty jumps 216 pts amid firm global equities

Equity benchmark BSE Sensex closed at an all-time high of 62,272.68 on Thursday, tracking a firm trend in global markets after the US Fed minutes indicated a slower pace of rate increase that bolstered investors' sentiment.
Extending its rally to the third straight day, the 30-share BSE benchmark rallied 762.10 points or 1.24 per cent to settle at 62,272.68, its record closing peak. During the day, it jumped 901.75 points or 1.46 per cent to its lifetime high of 62,412.33.
The broader NSE Nifty gained 216.85 points or 1.19 per cent to end at 18,484.10. During the day, it hit its 52-week high of 18,529.70, higher by 262.45 points or 1.43 per cent.
"Two triggers assisted the Sensex rally to record highs. One, in the mother market US, the market construct turned favourable with rising equities, declining bond yields and falling dollar. Two, macro developments in India show steady rise in credit growth and capex indicating strong economic recovery.
"Along with this, sharp correction in crude is a big positive. This has facilitated this Sensex rally led by large-caps, mainly the HDFC twins, Infosys, TCS and RIL," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.
From the Sensex pack, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Wipro, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC, HDFC Bank and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra were among the major winners.
Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the laggards.
Elsewhere in Asia, markets in Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong ended in the green, while Shanghai settled lower.
Equity exchanges in Europe were trading in the green in the afternoon trade. Wall Street had ended higher on Wednesday.
"Led by broad-based buying, domestic indices witnessed solid gains as investors digested the latest Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes, which hinted that the rate hike cycle may be slowing down. The optimism was further boosted by falling crude prices and the declining dollar index. Crude oil prices dropped over talks of a possible price cap on Russian oil and a rise in US product stockpiles," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.46 per cent lower at USD 85.02 per barrel.

 BSE launches Electronic Gold Receipts: all you need to know

The announcement came after the exchange last month received final approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for introducing EGR on its platform.

Leading stock exchange BSE has launched &nbsp;Electronic Gold Receipt (EGR) on its platform, a move that will help in efficient and transparent price discovery of the yellow metal.
It introduced two new products of 995 and 999 purity during the Muhurat trading on Diwali and trading will be in multiples of 1 gram and deliveries in multiples of 10 gram and 100 gram, the exchange said in a statement.
The announcement came after the exchange last month received final approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for introducing EGR on its platform.
BSE in February received in-principle approval from Sebi after which the exchange conducted several mock trading in the test environment for its members to facilitate trading in EGRs.
EGRs will cater to all market participants, which means that buyers and sellers on the exchange will include individual investors, as well as commercial participants along the value chain like importers, banks, refiners, bullion traders, jewellery manufacturers, and retailers.
"The launch of EGRs represents a significant milestone not only for the BSE but also for the global bullion industry. BSE is committed to continuously facilitating access to high-quality investment-based products and services for our stakeholders," Sameer Patil, CBO at BSE said on Monday.
The EGR platform will lead to greater assurance in the quality of gold supplied, efficient price discovery, and transparency in transacting. This can create a vibrant gold ecosystem in India by enabling actual fungibility of gold. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; India is the second largest consumer of gold globally with annual gold demand of approximately 800-900 tonne and holds an important position in the global markets.
The country has remained a price-taker in the global markets, and at present, does not play any significant role in influencing the price-setting for the commodity.
A platform for EGR infuses transparency in gold spot transactions, enables India to emerge as the price setter, and would eliminate existing market inefficiencies.

Shares of Tega Industries surged on its debut day on Monday as the stock rose to ₹730 as compared to issue price of ₹453.

It was followed by&nbsp;Power Grid Corporation of India, Dr Reddy&rsquo;s Laboratories,&nbsp;Sun Pharma,&nbsp;Axis Bank, Tech Mahindra&nbsp;and&nbsp;Bharti Airtel, among others.
