In 2023, Canada accused India of orchestrating murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Khalastani leader shot dead outside Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023.
Canada alleged involvement of Indian govt agents in killing, a violation of Canadian sovereignty. Diplomatic storm followed, with Canada naming Indian diplomat person of interest.
India strongly rejected Canada's allegations and asked for hard evidence. After Trudeau's testimony, India said it confirmed New Delhi's stance on evidence.
&ldquo;What we have heard today only confirms what we have been saying consistently all along &ndash; Canada has presented us no evidence whatsoever in support of the serious allegations that it has chosen to level against India and Indian diplomats.&rdquo; India's MEA Spokesperson Randhi &nbsp;Jaiswal said.

Are you planning to make Canada your new home? You might have to churn out more money to make your dream come true. The Canadian government has announced about 12% increase in the 'right of permanent residence fee', reported News18. As per the report, the increased price will come into effect by the end of this month.&nbsp;

The Immigration, Residency and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that the fee for obtaining permanent residency in the courntry, from April 30, 2024, will rise from the current Canadian Dollars (CAD) 515 to CAD 575.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The permanent residency (PR) fees will increase at 9:00:00 a.m. Eastern daylight time on April 30, 2024, by the cumulative percentage increase to the Consumer Price Index for Canada, published by Statistics Canada, for the two previous years, rounded to the nearest five dollars", reads the IRCC's notice quoted by News 18.

However, the Canada government has exempted dependent children accompanying the applicants from paying the fees. This specific fees should be paid at the time of application for permanent residence status.
Along with the hike in Permanent residency fees, Canada has also increased the fees for Federal Skilled Workers, Provincial Nominee Program, Quebec Skilled Workers, Atlantic Immigration Class, and most economic pilots (Rural, Agri-Food), as well as their spouses or common-law partners. The price is increased from CAD &nbsp;850 to CAD 950 and the fees for dependent children is increased from CAD 230 to CAD 260.
The News18 report further mentioned that, the fees for the Live-in Caregiver Program, caregivers pilots (Home Child Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot), and their spouses or common-law partners have been hiked from CAD 570 to CAD 635, while the fee for accompanying a dependent child has risen from CAD 155 to CAD 175.&nbsp;

&nbsp;A 19-year-old student from Sri Lanka is accused of stabbing and killing six people he lived with, including a 2 1/2-month-old baby girl and three other kids from a Sri Lankan family, Ottawa police said Thursday.
Ottawa police chief Eric Stubbs said an &ldquo;edged weapon&rdquo; or &ldquo;knife-like object&rdquo; was used by the suspect, who was identified as Febrio De-Zoysa. He has been charged with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Mass killings are rare in Canada.
Stubbs said the deceased are Sri Lankan nationals who recently came to Canada. He said they include a 35-year-old mother, a 7-year-old son, a 4-year-old daughter, a 2-year-old daughter and the 2 1/2-month-old baby girl as well as a 40-year-old acquaintance of the family.
The police chief said when the first officers arrived at the home the family's father was outside and screaming for someone to call 911. Police received two emergency calls at 10:52 p.m. Wednesday.
The father is in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
&ldquo;This was a senseless act of violence perpetrated on purely innocent people,&rdquo; Stubbs said.
Sri Lanka's high commission said that it is in touch with relatives in the country's capital, Colombo.
De-Zoysa made a brief appearance in court Thursday and mumbled his assent as the justice of the peace ordered him not to speak to the father who survived the attack or to four other witnesses who provided statements to the police.
His case was adjourned until March 13 to give him time to find a lawyer.

Punjab gangster Sukha Duneke has been killed in Canada's Winnipeg in a gang war, according to multiple media reports.&nbsp;
Duneke was believed to be associated with Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Arsh Dalla.&nbsp;
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between India and Canada due to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.&nbsp;
The killing of the Canada-based gangster, who had at least 18 cases against him including those for murder, attempt to murder and robbery, took place on Wednesday night Canada time, the sources said.
Hailing from Duneke Kalan village in Punjab's Moga district, the gangster fled to Canada in December 2017, official sources said.
An active member of the Davinder Bambiha gang, Duneke was closely associated with Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Arsh Dalla, gangster Lucky Patial, Malaysia-based gangster Jackpal Singh alias Lali and other criminals.
The dreaded gangster was managing the activities of the gang from foreign soil and was also involved in running an extortion racket targeted killings of rival gang members in Punjab and neighbouring areas through his local contacts and managing the network of his foreign-based associates, the sources said.
In the last few months, the number of extortion calls made by Duneke had increased considerably in Punjab and neighbouring areas, they added.
In January, two of Duneke's associates -- Kulwinder Singh alias Kinda and Paramjeet Singh Pamma -- were arrested by the counter-intelligence wing (Bathinda) and three pistols and cartridges seized from their possession.
The two men were part of the extortion racket run by Duneke.
After his father died in 1990, Duneke got a peon's job at the Moga deputy commissioner's office on compassionate ground. During the eight years he continued with the job, he became addicted to drugs, the sources said.
A lookout circular was issued against Duneke in 2022.
His name had also figured in connection with the killing of international kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambian in March last year. He was accused of arranging the shooters for the killing.
Duneke's name also cropped up following the killing of two rival gang members -- Manpreet Singh and Vicky Singh -- by the shooters of the Bambiha gang in January 2022.

Speaking with reporters in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "We've informed the Govt of Canada that there should be parity in strength in our mutual diplomatic presence. Their number is very much higher than ours in Canada... I assume there will be a reduction from the Canadian side.
He further added, "I do think there is a degree of prejudice here. They have made allegations and taken action against them. To us, it seems that these allegations by the government of Canada are primarily politically driven."
