Jenna Fischer, best known for her role as Pam Beesly in &lsquo;The Office&rsquo;, has opened up about her battle with &lsquo;aggressive&rsquo; breast cancer last year and her journey to being cancer-free.
Sharing the news during Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Instagram, Fischer detailed her diagnosis, which came after a routine mammogram revealed inconclusive results and an ultrasound detected a mass in her left breast.
In December, she was diagnosed with stage one triple positive breast cancer. Thankfully, the cancer was highly treatable.
Fischer underwent a lumpectomy in January, followed by chemotherapy in February and radiation in June. To prevent a recurrence, she also received ongoing Herceptin infusions and a daily dose of Tamoxifen.
Now, she&rsquo;s happy to report that she&rsquo;s feeling great and cancer-free!
Jenna Fischer revealed she was able to keep her breast cancer private thanks to &lsquo;some great wigs and hats with hair.&rsquo; She chose to share her journey now to encourage others to get mammograms and take preventive measures.
&lsquo;I&rsquo;m serious, call your doctor right now,&rsquo; she urged.
&lsquo;My tumour was so small it couldn't be felt during a physical exam. If I had waited six months, it could have spread and become much worse. Consider this your kick in the butt to get it done,&rsquo; she added.
Fischer also emphasized how a cancer diagnosis changes everything, as &lsquo;everything in your life becomes about doctor appointments, tests, and treatments.&rsquo; She thanked the &lsquo;amazing village&rsquo; of medical professionals, family, friends, and fellow cancer survivors who supported her during the past year.
Among those who helped was The Office co-star Angela Kinsey, her co-host on the Office Ladies podcast. Fischer said Kinsey &lsquo;protected and advocated for me,&rsquo; even keeping her cancer diagnosis a secret at work for a long time.
&lsquo;When I lost my hair, she wore hats to our work meetings so I wouldn't be the only one without hair. And when I needed a break, we took one,&rsquo; she wrote.
Fischer, who played Pam Beesly for nine seasons in The Office from 2005 to 2013, also won an Emmy for her role. Her latest role was in the 2023 musical film adaptation of &lsquo;Mean Girls&rsquo;.

The Tata Institute in Mumbai has made a groundbreaking discovery to prevent cancer recurrence. Their ten years of research has formulated a tablet designed to thwart cancer re-occurrence in patients while notably mitigating the adverse effects associated with treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy.
<h3>The research found that dying cancer cells release chromatin particles</h3>
Speaking with NDTV, senior cancer surgeon at Tata Memorial Hospital, Dr Rajendra Badve explained how the research was done on rats. Rats were injected with cancerous cells leading to formation of tumours in their body. The rats were then treated with radiation therapy, surgery and cherotherapy. The research found that dying cancer cells release chromatin particles which travel to healthy blood cells making them cancerous.
To prevent this, the scientists provided pro-oxidant tablets consisting of resveratrol and copper (R+Cu) to the rats. The R+Cu tablets generate oxygen radicals, which destroy these chromatin particles.&nbsp;
When taken orally, the R+Cu tablets help in preventing the spread of these chromatin particles and reduces chemotherapy toxicity.
Dubbed as the 'magic of R+Cu', the tablets are expected to reduce the side effects of cancer treatment by about 50% and is effective in preventing cancer recurrence by around 30%. It is promising in treating pancreas, lungs, and oral cavity cancers.
<h3>Approval pending from the FSSAI</h3>
The tablet is presently pending approval from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). After being approved, they are expected to be available in stores around June or July at just Rs 100. Trials on humans is also under trial and will take approximately five more years to be complete.

The drug named PREVAL has been developed with a collaboration with Advanced Centre for Training Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC).
This seminal development is meant to revolutionise cancer treatment, specifically hematologic malignancies such as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, and give a more precise and child-friendly alternative to traditional tablets.
Mercaptopurine is a medication used in the treatment of a specific type of cancer, particularly Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. The medication belongs to the class of drugs known as antimetabolites, which is majorly responsible to interfere with the growth and division of cancer cells.
How to use PREVALL?
PREVALL can used by mixing 10mg &nbsp;of the medicine with 100 ml liquid. It also comes with a syringe and a Press In Bottle Adapter for precise dosing based on a patient&rsquo;s weight or body surface area.
The Indian Express reported that Dr Girish Chinnaswamy, head of paediatric oncology department at the hospital, emphasised the importance of optimal care for children with curable cancers.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The formulations like PREVALL contribute to dose optimisation, enhancing adherence, and maximising drug efficacy. PREVALL&rsquo;s launch is a major advancement, offering a more accurate and kid-friendly alternative to tablets. Previously, crushing tablets or alternate dosing was common for children," he said.&nbsp;

A breakthrough discovery has come to light as scientists at the Helmholts Munich research centre used a transparent mouse to detect minuscule cancerous tumours.&nbsp;
For this, researchers rendered a dead mouse and turned it transparent. This research was led by Professor Ali Ert&uuml;rk. Now, for this technique, they have used chemical substances to highlight specific tissues, enabling them to conduct scans with detail and precision.&nbsp;
Professor Ert&uuml;rk told BBC that this technique is important because cancer drugs have to be used in mice before they are tested on humans.&nbsp;
Prof Ert&uuml;rk further said, "MRI and PET scans would show you only big tumours. Ours show tumours at the single cell, which they absolutely can't. Current drugs extend life by a few years and then the cancer comes back. This is because the development process never included eliminating those tiny tumours, which were never visible."

The issue has already been examined in the department in consultation with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the statement said. "WHO country office in India confirmed to FSSAI that no such advisory has been issued by WHO to Government of India ever," it added.

The department said that this kind of false information being circulated on social media and on WhatsApp should not be given any credence whatsoever. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and FSSAI are taking all possible steps to help supply of safe and good quality milk to the consumers across the country, the statement said.
Milk production in the country has increased from 146.3 million tonnes in 2014-15 to 221.06 million tonnes (66.56 crore litres per day) in 2021-22 with the annual Growth Rate of 6.1 per cent.
The department had also conducted a study on demand of milk and milk product in India during 2019. As per the study, the total consumption at the all India level in 2019 was 162.4 million metric tonnes (44.50 Crore Kg per day) for milk and milk products.
Thus, milk production in the country is sufficient to meet the domestic demand, the department added. The quality of milk and milk products sold in market is governed by standards laid down and enforced by the FSSAI.

Global FMCG giant Unilever has recalled some popular brands of its aerosol dry shampoo, including Dove, Tresemme in the US and Canada markets after it was found that they were contaminated with benzene which can cause cancer.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, Unilever&rsquo;s Indian unit Hindustan Unilever (HUL) has said that the recall of products in the US and Canada markets is not going to impact India. HUL does not manufacture or sell dry shampoos in India.
The recall also covers brands such as Nexxus, Suave, Tresemm&eacute; and Tigi, which makes Rockaholic and Bed Head dry shampoos.&nbsp;
The problem with aerosols has largely appeared to be from the propellants that are used to spray the products from the cans. As per Unilever, this was the case with its dry shampoo recall. The company has not released the amount of benzene content that was found in the products, and has said that it recalled them out of caution.
According to the report, this isn&rsquo;t the first time that dry shampoos have been pointed out as a problem. P&amp;G had recalled its Pantene and Herbal Essences dry shampoos in December last year, citing benzene contamination.&nbsp;

According to a recent study conducted by the University of Michigan, long-term air pollution exposure may lead to obesity in women, particularly in their 40s and 50s.
For the study, the team analysed 1,654 women aged 40 and above for a period of 8 years. Researchers found that exposure to air pollution is linked to higher body fat, higher proportion fat and lower lean fat among midlife women.
However, high levels of physical activity can lower the effect. Study authors also concluded that these findings can't be generalised to men or women in other age groups.
