In 2023, 4.1 million cars were sold with India's Passenger Vehicle sales breaching the 4 million mark for the first time. This was a 8.2% rise from the 3.79 million vehicles sold in 2022, as per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers data.
In the electic vehicle segment, there was a 6.4% surge with Tata in the lead, followed by MG Motors.

Party spokesperson, Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that Manoj Mittal, one of the accused in the death of the 20-year-old girl was a member of the BJP. He accused the police of trying to cover up the matter and protecting the accused.&nbsp;
The Delhi Police was given three-day custody of the five accused in connection with the death on January 2. The Sultanpuri police station has registered an FIR against Deepak Khanna (26), Amit Khanna (25), Krishan (27), Mithun (26) and Manoj Mittal.
Police said a medical board has been constituted to conduct the post-mortem. Based on the post-mortem report, fresh charges could be added against the five accused arrested in connection with the case, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda said at a press conference. The accused have been booked on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, causing death by negligence and criminal conspiracy.
Earlier, the National Commission for Women sought a post mortem of the accident victim to find out whether she was sexually assaulted. The NCW in a statement said the woman's mother has alleged that the men raped her daughter.
The girl worked part-time in weddings and other functions and was returning home on her scooter from one such function on Sunday when she met with the accident. The girl is survived by her mother, four sisters and two brothers aged nine and 13.
According to an eye witness, the accused dragged the girl&rsquo;s body which got entangled under their vehicle for 18 to 20 kilometres and lasted for about one and a half hours.

Vehicle owners not having a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) for their vehicles may face suspension of registration certificate, officials said on Tuesday.
The Delhi Transport Department is issuing notices to owners whose vehicles do not have a valid PUCC, warning that if they do not get the certificate within a week, their registration certificates may be suspended.
"There are around 19 lakh vehicles that do not have a valid PUCC but there is no technology to know whether such vehicles are coming on the roads. So, the enforcement teams have been formed to carry out checks, while SMSes are also being sent to vehicle owners warning them that their registration certificates may be suspended if they do not get a valid PUCC within a week," said a top transport department official.
Vehicles are periodically tested for their emission standards for various pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) after which they are given PUC certificates.
There are over 900 pollution checking centres authorised by the transport department in Delhi. These are set up at petrol pumps and workshops spread all over the city so motorists can get it done easily.
The fee for pollution checking in case of petrol and CNG-driven two and three-wheelers is Rs 60. It is Rs 80 for four-wheelers (petrol) and Rs 100 for diesel-run four-wheelers.

The proposal for raising road tax on specific categories of vehicles has been forwarded by the transport department to the finance department.
Depending on the vehicle's fuel variant and price band, road tax in Delhi varies between 4% and 12.5% on individually owned private cars.
The road tax on private vehicles in Delhi is presently up to 12.5 per cent depending on fuel type and price range.
<h3>No tax for&nbsp;Electric Vehicles</h3>
Under the&nbsp;Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy, which was announced in 2020, EVs &mdash; both two-wheeled and four-wheeled &mdash; are exempted from paying any road tax.
