12 persons have died so far according to the state officials.

Over 1,200 villages have been severely affected by the heavy rains in the northern districts of Madhya&nbsp;Pradesh&nbsp;alone.&nbsp;

Floods and rains have created mayhem in several states over the last one week.&nbsp; Rescue operations are in force in the flood ravaged northern region of Madhya Pradesh&nbsp;where&nbsp;8,832 people have been rescued and 29,280 people have been shifted to safer areas.&nbsp; Several areas got&nbsp;submerged in Rajasthan&rsquo;s Baran.&nbsp;Jhalawar&nbsp;are also witnessed heavy showers which caused massive water-logging.&nbsp; Bihar&nbsp;has been put on a flood alert with multiple rivers flowing above danger levels.&nbsp;The rising Ganga-Yamuna levels have also submerged the low-lying areas of Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Prayagraj.&nbsp;

The Central Pollution Control Board has released a report which states that five major rivers in the country, including the Ganga have deteriorated in spite of the the Covid-19&nbsp;lockdown.
Due to the release of sewage and no fresh water discharge, the quality in these rivers do not qualify criteria for even outdoor bathing. Apart from Ganga the other rivers include Beas, Chambal, Sutlej and Swarnarekha.
However, the report said improvement was seen in the water quality of Brahmani, Brahmaputra, Cauvery, Godavari, Krishna, Tapi and Yamuna due to minimal industrial&nbsp;discharge, no human activities like puja material and garbage disposals.
The pollution watchdog had asked the State Pollution Control Boards to monitor&nbsp;the quality of water during the lockdown period.
