The accused, who has been identified as Vishal, was arrested as he was with her when the incident happened. The deceased succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday morning.

A woman died after she was allegedly set on fire by her male friend in a park here, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Vishal, has been arrested, they added.
According to the police, the incident took place on Monday night at a park adjacent to the Sector 35 petrol pump.
They said a passerby called the control room after he heard a commotion and found a woman in flames in the park. The accused had fled the scene, the police added.
The victim, aged around 28, was a resident of Sohana in Mohali. Preliminary investigations revealed she and Vishal were in a relationship.
The woman suffered over 80 per cent burn injuries in the incident. She was initially rushed to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 and later referred to PGIMER.
&ldquo;She succumbed to her burn injuries during treatment at PGIMER on Tuesday,&rdquo; SHO (Sector 36) Om Prakash said.
&ldquo;We have registered the case and arrested Vishal, a resident of Kharar town in Mohali. A court here has remanded him to two days of police custody,&rdquo; Prakash said.
The victim&rsquo;s burnt clothes, her slippers and a spray from the crime scene have been recovered by the police and further investigations are on, the SHO said.&nbsp;

The result was announced by the mayor.
In the 35-member municipal House, the BJP has 17 councillors. The number of BJP's strength increased from 14 to 17 after three AAP councillors switched over to it on February 19. The AAP has 10 members while the Congress has seven. The Shiromani Akali Dal has one councillor.
Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, who is a BJP member, also has voting rights as an ex-officio member of the corporation.
The Supreme Court on February 20 had overturned the January 30 results of the Chandigarh mayoral poll in which the BJP candidate had emerged an unlikely winner, and declared defeated AAP-Congress alliance candidate Kuldeep Kumar as the city's new mayor.
The process for election for the two posts is being conducted by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Kumar who recently assumed the charge of Chandigarh mayor. In the January 30 poll, BJP's Manoj Sonkar had defeated Kumar to become mayor.
Alleging tampering of ballots, councillors of the AAP and the Congress boycotted the elections to the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor, leading to the victory of Sandhu and Rajinder Sharma then.
This time too the BJP has fielded Sharma for the post of deputy mayor. He is up against Congress' Nirmala Devi.

It said that the election officer is guilty of misdemeanour. A notice has been issued to Masih to show cause as to why steps should not be initiated against him under Section 340 of CrPC.

BJP leader Manoj Sonkar resigned as Chandigarh mayor and three AAP councillors joined the saffron party on Sunday, a day before the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a plea alleging irregularities in the recently held mayoral polls.
Sonkar has submitted his resignation to the municipal commissioner, said Chandigarh BJP president Jatinder Pal Malhotra.
The Congress and the AAP do not have an alliance and are only befooling the public. They will be exposed before the public, Malhotra told PTI.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Arun Sood said three AAP councillors -- Neha, Poonam and Gurcharan Kala -- joined the BJP in the presence of senior party leader Vinod Tawde.
Sood was also present when the three councillors joined the BJP.
The three AAP councillors switching sides is set to tilt the scales in favour of the BJP whenever fresh mayoral polls are held.
Prior to their joining, the BJP had 14 councillors in the 35-member Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and the AAP 13. Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, who is a BJP member, also has voting rights as an ex-officio member of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.
The Congress has seven councillors and the Shiromani Akali Dal has one councillor.
The BJP had swept the January 30 Chandigarh mayoral polls, in a setback to the Congress-AAP alliance that alleged tampering with ballot papers by the presiding officer.
Sonkar had defeated the AAP's Kuldeep Kumar for the mayor's post, polling 16 votes against his rival's 12. Eight votes were declared invalid.
Kumar had later moved the Supreme Court.
On February 5, the Supreme Court had rapped the returning officer who conducted the Chandigarh mayoral polls, observing that it was obvious that he defaced the ballot papers and that he should be prosecuted, adding that his action amounted to "murder and mockery" of democracy.
The court had also ordered preservation of ballots and the video of the poll proceedings besides seeking the returning officer's personal appearance during the next hearing in the case on February 19.
An appalled Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud, who headed a three-judge division bench, had said the court would not allow democracy to be murdered like this and that the apex court would order fresh elections if not satisfied with the purity of the poll process.
The AAP and the Congress had hailed the court's observations, saying it was a "tight slap" on the face of the BJP.
Opposition councillors had earlier alleged that Presiding Officer Anil Masih tampered with the ballot papers, a charge rubbished by the BJP.

Chandigarh University founder-chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu was on Tuesday nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
In a notification, the home ministry said President Droupadi Murmu has nominated Sandhu to the upper house of Parliament.
Son of a farmer, Sandhu is one of India's leading educationists, the notification said.
Sandhu, who is also an agriculturist who struggled to attain education, is credited with the foundation of Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) at Landran in Mohali in 2001 and the formation of Chandigarh University in 2012, it said.
He is actively involved in large-scale community efforts to improve health and wellness and also to advance communal harmony through his two NGOs -- the Indian Minorities Foundation and the New India Development Foundation. it added.

BJP bagged 16 seats, INDIA 12, while eight votes were declared invalid. After the results were declared, a chaos broke out in the Municipal Coroporation House.
As part of the alliance, the AAP contested for the mayor's post while the Congress fielded candidates for senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor posts.
The polls were originally scheduled for January 18 but were deferred after the presiding officer fell ill.

A Chandigarh University (CU) student Pawan Kumar Sehrawat, the captain of the Indian Kabaddi team, was on Monday (9 January) bestowed with the prestigious Arjuna Award, the second-highest athletic honor in India.
Pawan received the prestigious Arjuna Award from President Droupadi Murmu for his brilliant contribution to Indian Kabaddi. Pawan, under whose leadership the Indian Kabaddi team returned with a Gold in Asian Games 2023 after eight years (2014), was awarded the honour at a glittering ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Thanking the Chandigarh University for its role in helping him in pursuing excellence in Kabaddi, Pawan said, &ldquo;The University has always encouraged students towards sports, due to which they have been able to follow their dreams&rdquo;.

A woman Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, who was seriously injured after being allegedly attacked by a mess worker in the Pathankot district of Punjab, succumbed to her injuries, police said on Monday.
Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the IAF officer died on Sunday evening.
She was admitted at the Army's Command Hospital in Chandimandir in Haryana's Panchkula.
The body of the officer was handed over to her family after postmortem, the SSP said.
The IAF officer was allegedly attacked by the mess worker on July 14 after gaining entry into her official residence in the Pathankot airbase with the intention of committing robbery.
The officer, a Squadron Leader, was asleep and woke up when she heard some noises. She had tried to confront the intruder who attacked her with a knife, causing her multiple injuries, police had said.
The accused, identified as Makhan Singh, was later arrested with the help of CCTV footage.
She was rushed to a hospital and later referred to the Army's Command Hospital.
