Following two incidents of alleged suicides in just a month, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras has set up an Institute Internal Inquiry Committee, according to news agency ANI.
The move comes after a student was found hanging in his room on 14 March 2023. A similar incident had been reported on 14 February.
The inquiry committee has reportedly been tasked with looking into reasons and other aspects of the incidents. Elected student representatives are also part of the panel.

A third-year BTech student part of the electrical engineering department was reportedly found hanging in his hostel room by his roommates on 14 March 2023. Police said that preliminary information suggested he faced trouble in "focusing on studies", as per an NDTV report.

"The process of cyclonic storm's landfall has started, it is going on," Head-IMD Regional Meterological Centre, S Balachandran told PTI.
Under the influence of the cyclonic storm's passage into land, moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by gale wind was witnessed in several coastal regions.
Mandous is all set to weaken, following the landfall, to a deep depression and later a depression on Saturday. Earlier on Friday, it had weakened from a severe cyclonic storm to a cyclonic storm.
Mandous, pronounced 'man-dous' is an Arabic word and it means treasure box and the name was reportedly picked by the United Arab Emirates.
Balachandran earlier told reporters that between Chennai and Puducherry, 12 cyclones have crossed the coast in the past 130 years from 1891 to 2021. "If this cyclone crosses the coast near Mamallapuram, it will be the 13th cyclone to cross the coast (between Chennai and Puducherry).
As many as 16,000 police personnel and 1,500 Home guards have been deployed here for security, relief and rescue tasks, and a 40-member team of TN State Disaster Response Force, in addition to 12 District Disaster Response Force teams, are on standby, police said.
Already, nearly 400 personnel of the NDRF and State Disaster Response Force teams have been stationed in coastal regions, including those near the Cauvery delta areas.

Police said Manickam's daughter identified as Sathya, died after she was allegedly pushed in front of a moving train at St Thomas Mount railway station.
The accused, identified as Satheesh had gotten into an argument with the girl, while they were standing on the railway platform. During the argument, Satheesh pushed her onto the track as the suburban train from Tambaram approached, and fled from the spot. Sathya was on her way to college with her friends.

An inebriated man who wanted to prevent his family members from travelling out of the country on Saturday made a hoax bomb threat to a Dubai-bound IndiGo flight, only to land in the police net.&nbsp;
The Chennai resident wanted to prevent two of his family members from flying to Dubai and made the threat call to the city police control room, prompting the security agencies to launch a full-scale search inside the IndiGo flight that was originally scheduled to depart at 7.20 am on Saturday, airport and police officials said.&nbsp;
Following the threat call, the flight was checked thoroughly but a thorough check was undertaken by the security agencies to ascertain if any explosive items were planted in the flight.&nbsp;

The accused were trying to escape to Nepal before being nabbed by police. Cops said they recovered important evidence including CCTV recorder from the accused.

Omicron infection has exploded in Tamil Nadu with 33 cases in a day. The state government on Thursday reported 33 new cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Omicron infection has exploded in Tamil Nadu with 33 cases in a day. The state government on Thursday reported 33 new cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Out of the new cases, 26 were reported in Chennai. This takes the total state tally to 34.
The state government has said that the contacts of the infected people were being traced and the gene sequencing results of some more people were awaited.
Government officials said that as many as 104 people who arrived in Tamil Nadu from various countries have tested Covid-19 positive till date.

Over 250 Omicron infections have been reported in the country so far. Delhi and Maharashtra have the most cases and now Tamil Nadu has jumped to third spot with the latest single-day Omicron explosion.

Rain gods continue to show their wrath in down South. Eight people have died in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu, state Disaster Management Minister KKSSR Ramachandran said.
Rescue operations were underway in Kanchipuram and Chinglepet with two teams of NDRF being deployed in both regions.

Further, India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for several coastal districts of Tamil Nadu. The IMD has warned of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall for Saturday. 
Incessant rains in the state lead to waterlogging and flash floods in several areas due to which schools and colleges have been closed in 23 districts.
