At least seven Naxalites were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday, according to a senior police official.
The clash occurred around 3 a.m. in the dense forests of south Abujhmaad during an anti-Naxalite operation carried out by a joint team of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to counter Naxalite insurgency in the region.
Security forces, including personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bastar, and Kondagaon districts, alongside CRPF teams, were involved in the operation.
Once the firefight subsided, the bodies of seven Naxalites, all wearing uniforms, were recovered. Authorities have continued search operations in the area to ensure all Naxalite elements are neutralized.

Two personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force&rsquo;s jungle warfare unit CoBRA were killed after Naxalites blew up a truck with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgah&rsquo;s Sukma district on Sunday, police said.
The Naxal blast took place around 3 pm near Timmapuram village between Silger and Tekalgudem camps of security forces, over 400 km from the state capital Raipur, a senior police official said.
An advance party of the 201st unit of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) had launched patrolling from Silger camp under Jagargunda police station limits as a part of its Road Opening Party duty towards Tekalgudem, he said.
The security personnel were in a truck and on motorcycles, he said.
Naxalites triggered an IED blast targeting the truck that claimed the lives of constable Shailendra (29) and the vehicle driver Vishnu R (35), he said.
After being alerted about the blast, more forces were rushed to the spot and the bodies were being evacuated from the forest, he said.
A search operation is underway in the area, he added.&nbsp;

At least 12 Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Friday, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said.
The gunfight took place in the forest near Pidia village under Gangaloor police station limits when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation, police had said earlier.
"The exchange of fire in Gangaloor area has ended. Our security forces have achieved a major success as the bodies of 12 Naxalites have been recovered so far," the chief minister told reporters.
He congratulated the security forces and senior officials for the operation.
This is the third major blow to the Naxalites in Chhattisgarh in the last one month. On April 16, at least 29 Naxalites were killed in an encounter in Kanker district, while ten Naxalites were killed in another encounter with the security forces along the border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts on April 30.
As many as 103 Naxalites have been killed so far this year in separate encounters in the state's Bastar region.&nbsp;

Speaking to ANI, Vimla Singh, a member of one of these all-women self-help groups, talked about the significance of the initiative, saying, "We are going door to door, gifting tamarind leaves and yellow rice to the people to encourage voter participation. Since polling will start early at 7 am, we are handing out these items that are intrinsic to our culture and traditional practices in a bid to draw the maximum number of voters to the polling booths. It is like inviting people to a wedding or a community event. What could be better or more joyful than this? Singh said.
The third phase of polling will take place on May 7 and it will cover Chhattisgarh's Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Surguja, Raigarh, Jangir-Champa and Korba districts

Nine people were killed, including three children, and 23 persons were injured after a goods vehicle they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck in Chhattisgarh's Bemetara district.
The accident took place late Sunday night near Kathia village when the victims were returning after attending a family function, a senior police official told PTI news agency on Monday.
The victims, natives of Patharra village, were returning after attending a family function in Tiraiyya village, the official said.
The goods vehicle collided with the mini truck that was parked by the roadside, the official said.
Those killed were identified as Bhuri Nishad (50), Neera Sahu (55), Geeta Sahu (60), Agniya Sahu (60), Khushbu Sahu (39), Madhu Sahu (5), Rikesh Nishad (6) and Twinkle Nishad (6), he said.
The injured persons were admitted to two hospitals. Later, four critically injured persons were shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Raipur, he said.&nbsp;

The spurt of violence comes just three days before Bastar goes to polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Three security personnel suffered injuries in the fierce gun-battle and a large quantity of weapons was also recovered from the spot, they said.
The gunfight took place at around 2 pm in Hapatola forest between Binagunda and Koronar villages under Chhotebethiya police station limits, when a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the state's District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a senior police official said.
"As per preliminary information, at least eight Naxalites were gunned down in the encounter. A huge cache of weapons was recovered from the spot," he informed.
The three security personnel injured in the gunfight were being shifted to a hospital for treatment, the official said.
Kanker lies over 150 km from Bastar, which goes to polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19.
Election authorities on Tuesday started moving polling personnel in helicopters to the Naxal-dominant area. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) have also been dispatched amid tight security.

The families of three men killed in a gunfight with police in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district two days ago have claimed they were not Naxalites and the encounter was fake, a charge denied by the police.
Kanker Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela said there was no wrongdoing and that locals and family members of the deceased make such claims after every encounter under the pressure of Naxalites.
Police earlier claimed the three "Naxalites" were killed on a forested hill between Bhomra-Hurtarai villages under Koyalibeda police station limits on Sunday morning in an encounter with security personnel during an anti-Naxal operation.
The police then also said the three deceased were yet to be identified.
Some locals and family members of the deceased reached the Koyelibeda police station on Monday and accused the police of staging a fake encounter.
They identified the deceased as Rameshwar Negi, Suresh Teta, natives of Marda village, and Anil Kumar Hidko, from Pairvi village in the area.
Talking to reporters, Manohar Gavde, the sarpanch of Badargi village panchayat under which Marda falls, said the tribals are dependent on the forest for wood, leaves and other produce.
"Tendu leaf collection season is going to start and for the same purpose the trio had gone to the forest to collect ropes prepared with the barks and stems of trees and other things. They had gone for two days and therefore they were carrying rice and utensils for cooking food," he said.
They were not Naxalites and were killed in a "fake" encounter, Gadve claimed.
Hidko's wife Surja also claimed her husband had gone to the forest to collect rope and was carrying a torch and an axe with him.
"We are farmers and only work at our farm and home," she added.
Teta's wife also claimed the police staged a fake encounter and her husband was not a Naxalite.
When contacted, Kanker SP Elesela denied any wrongdoing and said if the family members suspect something amiss, then they can submit their claims during a magisterial probe (conducted after the encounters).
"The police have done nothing wrong. The encounter had happened and Naxal leader Raju Salaam and his military company were involved in it. After every encounter, such claims are made by local villagers and family members of the deceased under the pressure of Naxalites," he said.
The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after post-mortem, he said.
The police were ascertaining the records of the three killed "Naxalites" and their involvement in past incidents, the official said.

Vishnu Deo Sai, a prominent tribal face of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Chhattisgarh, will be state chief minister after he was elected as leader of BJP's legislative party during a meeting of 54 newly-elected MLAs on Sunday.
Incidentally, addressing a poll rally in the Kunkuri constituency last month, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah had urged voters to elect Sai, promising to make the latter a "big man" if the party comes back to power in the state.
The BJP won 54 seats in the 90-member Assembly in the recently held polls, while the Congress was reduced to 35 seats from the 68 it won in 2018.
The BJP, which had suffered a huge setback in tribal-dominated seats in 2018, put up a good show this time, winning 17 of the 29 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
The saffron outfit won all the 14 assembly segments in the tribal-dominated Surguja region and eight out of the 12 seats in another Adivasi belt Bastar.
The BJP's comprehensive win in the two tribal turfs contributed in its resounding victory in the Assembly polls and return to power in the state after a gap of five years.
Sai started his political career as a village sarpanch and rose to become a Union minister and multiple-time Lok Sabha MP besides getting important organisational roles.
The newly-elected MLA from Jashpur district in the Surguja region perfectly fits in the BJP's scheme of things since Adivasis account for nearly 32 per cent of the state's population and are the second most dominant social group after OBCs.
Despite inheriting a rich political legacy of his family and holding key portfolios when he was a Union minister, the 59-year-old tribal leader is known for his humility, down to earth nature, dedication to work and determination to achieve goals.
Sai has headed the BJP's Chhattisgarh unit three times, displaying the central leadership's faith in his organisational skills.
Starting his political career as the sarpanch of an obscure village, Sai rose through the ranks and became a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first Council of Ministers after the BJP formed its full majority government at the Centre in 2014.
Though he hails from a farming family based in a small village, Bagia, in the tribal-dominated Jashpur district, politics runs in the blood of the BJP leader.
His grandfather late Budhnath Sai was a nominated MLA from 1947 to 1952. His 'bade pitaji' (elder brother of his father) late Narhari Prasad Sai was a member of the Jan Sangh (BJP's predecessor) and served as a two-term MLA (1962-67 and 1972-77) and was elected as an MP (1977-79) and served as a Minister of State in the Janata Party government.
Another elder brother of his father, late Kedarnath Sai, was also a Jan Sangh member and served as MLA from Tapkara (1967-72).
Vishnu Deo Sai studied in a government school in Kunkuri and went to Ambikapur for graduation but quit studies midway and returned to his village in 1988. In 1989, he was elected as a 'panch' of Bagia village panchayat and next year became the sarpanch unopposed.
It is said it was BJP stalwart late Dilip Singh Judev who encouraged him to enter electoral politics in 1990. In the same year, Sai was elected as MLA for the first time on a BJP ticket from Tapkara (in Jashpur district) in undivided Madhya Pradesh. He retained the seat in the 1993 assembly polls.
In 1998, he unsuccessfully contested the Assembly polls from the adjoining Pathalgaon seat. Later, he was elected as MP from Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency four times in a row - 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014.
Though the BJP fielded him in 2003 and 2008 Assembly elections from Pathalgaon in Chhattisgarh, which came into existence as a separate state on November 1, 2000, he lost on both occasions.
After the BJP formed its government at the Centre in 2014 under the leadership of PM Modi, Sai was made Minister of State for Steel and Mines.
He was among the then 10 sitting BJP MPs in Chhattisgarh who were denied tickets for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
The tribal politician served as the BJP's Chhattisgarh chief from 2006 to 2010 and again from January-August 2014.
After the BJP lost power in the state in 2018, he was again given the responsibility to lead the party in Chhattisgarh in 2020.
He was replaced with Arun Sao, an OBC leader, in 2022, just a year ahead of the Assembly polls.
Ahead of the polls in November this year, Sai was named a member of the BJP national executive in July. He was fielded from Kunkuri (Jashpur district) in the elections which he won by defeating Congress' sitting MLA UD Minj by a margin of 25,541 votes.

&nbsp;A video of a Congress MLA from Chhattisgarh purportedly sitting in front of bundles of cash has triggered a row with the BJP raising allegations of "corruption" in the state whereas the legislator in question said it was a conspiracy to malign his image.
Chhattisgarh BJP general secretary OP Choudhary on Sunday shared this video on his social media handle claiming Congress has made Chhattisgarh a den of corruption.
The video clip shows MLA Ramkumar Yadav sitting on a sofa placed beside a bed where bundles of cash are kept. Another man is seen sitting along with Yadav, while the face of a third person sitting beside the cash on bed is not seen.
&ldquo;Will Congress accept this video in which bundles of notes are placed in front of its MLA or if it has any doubt over the video, will it show the courage to hand over the matter to CBI for investigation?&rdquo; Choudhary wrote on X.
He said Yadav, who represents the Chandrapur constituency, identifies himself as poor and lives in a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
"His father and grandfather used to graze cattle as well, as he claims. But see the bundle of cash kept in front of him in this video going viral on social media.

A government teacher was suspended after he was accused of forcing students to give him a massage in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, an official said on Friday.
The accused, posted as an assistant teacher at a primary school in Sendrimunda village, was suspended on Thursday, District Education Officer (DEO) Sanjay Gupta said.
The family members of some students had alleged that he asked children to give him a massage and beat them if they refused. He was suspended after the Block Education Officer submitted a report, the DEO said.
The concerned Cluster Educational Coordinator has also been served a notice and further inquiry was underway, Gupta added.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday arrested IAS officer Ranu Sahu in Chhattisgarh in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged coal levy scam in the state, officials said.
Following her arrest, Sahu, who was posted as the director of the state agriculture department, was presented in a court that sent her to three-day ED custody.
She is the second IAS officer in the state to be arrested in the case.
Her arrest came a day after the central agency conducted raids at her premises.
"Sahu was arrested this morning in connection with the alleged coal levy case. She was later produced in a court hearing Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) cases, which sent her to three-day ED custody," ED's lawyer Saurabh Pandey said.
The court of Additional District and Session Judge Ajay Singh Rajput passed the order.
Investigation into the case revealed the involvement of Sahu, who had served as Raigarh and Korba collector, in the money laundering offence. Proceeds of the crime as immovable property to the tune of Rs 5.52 crore were found in her possession, Pandey said.
The ED demanded her 14-day custody, but the court granted her custody to the agency till July 25, he added.

A group of men staged a nude protest in Chhattisgarh's capital Raipur on Tuesday demanding action against people who got government jobs using fake caste certificates, officials said.
The police took more than a dozen nude protesters into custody when they were marching towards the state legislative assembly, they said.
The four-day monsoon session of the state assembly began on Tuesday.
The youths belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes communities stripped naked and marched towards the assembly carrying placards with messages demanding action against government employees who used fake caste certificates to get jobs.
The protesters were taken into custody near Ama Seoni turn under the Pandri police station area for staging a demonstration in an obscene manner, Raipur senior superintendent of police Prashant Agrawal told PTI.
Talking to reporters, one of the protesters said the state government's enquiry committee conducted a probe into fake caste certificate cases and found that 267 government employees had used forged SC/ST certificates, but no action has been taken against them so far.
&ldquo;Earlier, we went on a hunger strike seeking action against them, but our demand remained unheard. Hence, we are now staging a naked protest. We demand that the fake caste certificate holders be arrested and the authorities seize property they have acquired,&rdquo; he said, warning of more fierce demonstrations if the demands are not met.
The protest stunned passersby who shot videos of the naked men marching and shouting slogans on the road and shared it on social media.

The Chhattisgarh government has imposed a fine of Rs 53,092 on an official who allegedly drained out 41 lakh litres of water from a reservoir to retrieve his mobile phone.
The Water Resources department imposed the fine on Rajesh Vishwas, a food inspector posted in Pakhanjore area of Kanker district, an official said on Tuesday.
Vishwas was earlier suspended after the incident at Paralkot weir came to light.
In a letter to him, the department said he drained out water from the cistern of a waste weir using a diesel pump without seeking permission from the competent authority after his mobile phone fell into it.
This act was illegal under the Chhattisgarh Irrigation Act, it said.

A Chhattisgarh government employee has been suspended after he allegedly drained out 41 lakh litres of water from a reservior in Kanker district after his Samsung Galaxy S23 fell into it while taking a selfie on May 21.

Food inspector Rajesh Vishwas reportedly roped in villagers and got diesel pumps to empty the water till his mobile phone was retrieved on May 25.

According to officials, food inspector Rajesh Vishwas had gone to the reservoir for an outing with his friends on May 21 when his Samsung Galaxy S23 fell into a waste reservoir while taking a selfie.&nbsp;
Vishwas reportedly roped in villagers and got diesel pumps to empty the water till his mobile phone was retrieved on May 25.
He said he was told that the water in the reservoir is unusable and which is why he sought verbal permission from the SDO to pump it out.&nbsp;

After the videos came to the notice of the district administration, Kabirdham Collector Janmejay Mahobe constituted a team of district officials to probe the incident.

The superintendent of a government-run residential school in Chhattisgarh&rsquo;s Kabirdham district was removed from his post after videos purportedly showing some students assaulting their juniors and chopping off their hair went viral on social media.
As the clips were widely shared, police registered a case against eight students, seven of them minors, while district authorities launched a probe.
According to officials, the alleged incident took place at Eklavya Model Residential School in Targegaon Jungle village under Bodla development block on March 11 and videos of it surfaced on social media platforms on Tuesday.
After the videos came to the notice of the district administration, Kabirdham Collector Janmejay Mahobe constituted a team of district officials to probe the incident.
Based on preliminary findings, the superintendent of the residential school, Malikram Markam, has been removed from his post, while its principal, Pramod Prakash, has been issued a show-cause notice, a government official said.
In one of the videos, a boy is seen slapping a junior pupil and chopping off his hair with a pair of scissors while several young kids are seen sitting on the floor watching the act.
Preliminary probe revealed students of Class 11 allegedly assaulted and chopped the hair of pupils of Grade 6 and recorded the act on a mobile phone, said the government official.
Based on a complaint of officials, a case has been registered against eight Class 11 students of the school, including seven minors, for allegedly thrashing their juniors, Kabirdham Additional Superintendent of Police Manisha Thakur said.
