The Consulate General of India in Chicago said it was in touch with the police and Indian diaspora to locate or reestablish contact with the student, Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi.

A 26-year-old Indian student has been reported missing in Chicago since May 2, India's mission in the US city said on Thursday, the latest case in the country as the community grapples with a string of such incidents involving students.
Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been missing from the 4300 block of N. Sheridan Rd, the Chicago Police said in a statement.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago said it was in touch with the police and Indian diaspora to locate/reestablish contact with Rupesh.
"The Consulate is deeply concerned learning that Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been incommunicado since 2nd May. The consulate is in touch with the police and the Indian diaspora hoping to locate/reestablish contact with Rupesh. @IndianEmbassyUS @MEAIndia," the Consulate posted on X.
On May 6, the Chicago police in a statement asked people to provide information to the police if they locate Rupesh.
The incident is the latest in a string of troubling cases on the safety and security of Indian students in the US.
Earlier in April, a 25-year-old Indian student missing since March was found dead in the US city of Cleveland. Mohammad Abdul Arfath, hailing from Nacharam, Hyderabad, arrived in the US last year in May to pursue a Masters in IT from Cleveland University.
In March, a 34-year-old trained classical dancer from India, Amarnath Ghosh, was shot dead in St Louis, Missouri.
Sameer Kamath, a 23-year-old Indian-American student at Purdue University, was found dead in a nature preserve in Indiana on February 5.
On February 2, Vivek Taneja, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT executive, suffered life-threatening injuries during an assault outside a restaurant in Washington.
In January, 18-year-old Akul Dhawan, a University of Illinois student was found unresponsive outside a campus building. Investigations revealed that he died due to hypothermia, with authorities ruling that acute alcohol intoxication and prolonged exposure to extremely cold temperatures significantly contributed to his death.&nbsp;

An Indian national has died in America after being shot during an armed robbery.
23-year-old Devsish Nandepu suffered bullet injuries on 22 January 2023 in Princeton Park, Chicago. He was shot in the armpit, and died a day later, as per reports.
The report added that Nandepu died just after 4 a.m. at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He had been taken to the hospital in a critical condition after the incident.
Devsish and a friend were near a parking lot when a vehicle approached them, according to police. The car's occupants held them at gunpoint, and demanded valuables. Even though Devsish and his friend complied, they were shot.
The other man suffered an injury in his chest and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, police said.
No arrests were made by 24 January.

An altercation broke out in a flight from San Francisco to Chicago, causing injuries to the flight attendant.
The viral incident from November 13 broke out on a United Airlines flight which has a woman holding her baby screaming at the onboard staff.

The incident reportedly broke soon after the flight landed at Chicago&rsquo;s O&rsquo;Hare International Airport.
While it&rsquo;s not clear on what led to argument, Fox32 Chicago reported that the disruptive passenger was deboarded by officials, and the assaulted crew member was taken to the hospital.
The airlines in an official statement confirmed that the &lsquo;disruptive passenger&rsquo; was deboarded.
"A disruptive customer on a flight from San Francisco to Chicago was removed by law enforcement upon landing on Sunday, and one member of the flight attendant crew was taken to a hospital for evaluation," United Airlines said in a statement.
Meanwhile, NDTV quoting United Airlines reported that no serious injuries were reported and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has begun a probe into the matter.

The explosion at the 36-unit, four-story apartment building in the South Austin neighbourhood occurred at about 9 am, officials said. Chicago Fire Department Deputy Chief Marc Ferman told reporters a few hours later that the department had finished searching for potential victims and was “confident” that nobody remained trapped inside the building, of which much of the top floor had collapsed.
He said technical crews had shored up the upper floors to allow firefighters to search “to make sure we didn't leave any victims underneath any of the debris”.
A cause of the blast had not yet been determined.
Seven of the injured were in the building on the city's West Side when the explosion occurred and one apparently was in a building across the street, Ferman said. Three of the people who were hurt had serious to critical injuries, the department said.
Photographs and video posted on the Chicago Fire Department's Twitter page showed that much of the top floor was destroyed. Scores of bricks and other debris had fallen onto the street, crushing at least one car and seriously damaging two others.
Several residents said they were home when the explosion rocked the building.
“I was asleep, and all of a sudden there was a loud booming,” Lawrence Lewis, who was asleep at the time, told WGN television. “I woke up to my windows gone, my front door blown open. I just saw smoke, and I ran out of the house. I was asleep. I'm shook up right now.” Otis Maning, who lives across the street, told the Chicago Sun-Times that he was on his couch watching television when “all of a sudden I hear, 'Boom!'” “My heart almost shot out of my body...I saw windows busted open, I saw debris," he added.
Chicago police bomb squad and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the explosion.

The gunman who attacked an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago fired more than 70 rounds with an AR-15-style gun that killed at least six people, then evaded initial capture by dressing as a woman and blending into the fleeing crowd, police said Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force told a news conference that the suspected shooter, who was arrested late Monday, used a high-powered rifle “similar to an AR-15" to spray bullets from atop a commercial building into a crowd that had gathered for the parade in Highland Park, a close-knit community on the shores of Lake Michigan that has long drawn the rich and sometimes famous.
More than 30 people were wounded in the attack, which task force spokesman Christopher Covelli said the shooter planned for several weeks.
Investigators who have interrogated the suspect and reviewed his social media posts have not determined a motive for the attack or found any indication that he targeted anyone by race, religion or other protected status, Covelli said.
Authorities have not filed criminal charges.
Earlier in the day, FBI agents peeked into trash cans and under picnic blankets as they searched for more evidence at the site where the assailant opened fire. The shots were initially mistaken for fireworks before hundreds of revellers fled in terror.
A day later, baby strollers, lawn chairs and other items left behind by panicked parade goers remained inside a wide police perimeter. Outside the police tape, some residents drove up to collect blankets and chairs they abandoned.

Actor Jussie Smollett, widely known for his role in 'Empire', has been sentenced to five months in jail for staging a hate crime scene.
Smollett was found guilty of falsely telling police that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic hate crime in 2019, an attack prosecutors said he himself staged. 
The judge also sentenced Smollett to 30 months of felony probation and ordered that he pay $120,106 in restitution to the city of Chicago and a $25,000 fine.
After the jail term was announced, the actor insisted that he was not suicidal, suggesting that ‘if anything happens’ to him in jail, he did not take his own life.
During the sentencing, the actor's lawyer also argued for a new trial for Smollett. However, the judge denied the request.
Smollett was originally indicted in March 2019 with 16 counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false report, claiming that, while on his way home from a sandwich shop, two men attacked him late at night.
Those charges were dropped later that same month. The case against him was later revived by a special prosecutor, Dan Webb, and in early 2020, Smollett was once again charged with disorderly conduct.
