Bihar's Hajipur seat is synonymous with late LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan and now his son Chirag Paswan is aiming to reclaim the historic seat in Lok Sabha 2024 polls.&nbsp;

Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, a political stronghold for the Paswan family, is set to witness a significant contest in the 2024 elections. Chirag Paswan, son of late Ram Vilas Paswan, is aiming to reclaim this historic seat. Ram Vilas Paswan, a prominent figure in Indian politics, won from Hajipur eight times and made it to the Guinness World Records by securing 89 per cent of the votes in 1977.
Since Ram Vilas Paswan died in 2020, there has been a tussle within the family over his political legacy. Presently, the Hajipur seat is represented by Chirag's uncle, Pashupati Kumar Paras. Chirag, who has been a two-time Member of Parliament from Jamui and heads the Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (LJP-RV), has now struck a deal with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest from Hajipur.
Chirag also tried his hands in acting but didn't go ahead with it. Three years after marking his Bollywood debut, Chirag made his political debut from Bihar's Jamui seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and emerged victorious.&nbsp;
The BJP's alliance with Chirag has left Pashupati Kumar Paras, also an ally of the BJP, sidelined. In protest, Paras has resigned from the Union cabinet and is not participating in the election campaign. This development has turned the Hajipur contest into a high-stakes battle for both family legacy and political dominance.
Chirag faces a formidable challenge, not only from his uncle but also from his main opponent, Shiv Chandra Ram of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The election in Hajipur will take place during the fifth phase on May 20.
Ram Vilas Paswan's political journey from Hajipur began in 1977 when he won with an astounding 89.3 per cent of the votes. He continued his winning streak in seven more elections, with a notable victory in 1989, securing 84 per cent of the votes. However, he faced defeats in 1984 and 2009, losing to Congress&rsquo; Ram Ratan Ram and Janata Dal (United)&rsquo;s Ram Sundar Das, respectively.
In the 2014 elections, Ram Vilas Paswan allied with the BJP, crediting his son Chirag for convincing him to join forces. This alliance helped him reclaim Hajipur. In 2019, he vacated the seat for his younger brother, Paras, while Chirag won from Jamui.
As the election day approaches, all eyes are on Chirag Paswan. Will he be able to replicate or even surpass his father's historic victories? The answer lies in the hands of the voters of Hajipur.

In an upheaval within the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), 22 party leaders have tendered their resignations simultaneously while expressing anger at not getting tickets for the Lok Sabha elections.

In an upheaval within the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), 22 party leaders have tendered their resignations simultaneously while expressing anger at not getting tickets for the Lok Sabha elections.
Among the notable figures who stepped down include former minister Renu Kushwaha, former MLA and national general secretary of LJP, Satish Kumar, state organisation minister Ravindra Singh, Ajay Kushwaha, Sanjay Singh and State General Secretary Rajesh Dangi.
The resignation wave appears to stem from grievances within the party ranks, with allegations surfacing about the distribution of tickets in exchange for money.
On her resignation from the party, former MP Renu Kushwaha said, "Ticket should be given to the party workers instead of people the from outside. Tickets were given to the outsiders which means that able people are not there in your party. Are we the labour class people in your party who will work for you, make you a leader? Our devotion was questioned when an outsider was given a ticket. We are not here to serve as labourers for the party."
Miffed over not getting the ticket, former MLA and national general secretary of LJP Satish Kumar asserted that the rebel LJP leaders will now support the INDIA bloc.
"When such important elections are there in the country, the LJP Supremo has given tickets to such people that the party workers are stunned. The people who used to raise slogans 'Hail Chirag Paswan', day and night and hoped for a 'new Bihar' have been betrayed, their aspirations were crushed. Now, to save the country, INDI alliance has to be supported. Now we will support the INDI alliance," Kumar said.
The LJP's Organisation Secretary Ravindra Singh claimed that Chirag Paswan "sold the tickets".&nbsp;
"Chirag Paswan has played an emotional game with the people of Bihar. When he got five seats due to our hard work, he sold all those tickets. People of Bihar will give him an answer," he said.
The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is contesting five out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar.
Bihar will see polling in seven phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. The results will be declared on June 4.

Former Lok Janshakti Party chief Chirag Paswan on Sunday dropped hints of joining the BJP-led NDA for which he had campaigned in the recent by-polls in Bihar.
At a meeting of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), a splinter group of the LJP floated by his late father Ram Vilas Paswan, Chirag was "authorised" to take a decision with regard to the party joining "any alliance".
The meeting took place on a day senior BJP leader and Union minister Nityanand Rai called on Chirag and termed the residence of the Paswans as "my second home".
Rai refrained from talking about alliance with Chirag though he asserted "the BJP and late Ram Vilas bhai have shared values. Both believe in making the people happy with their services".
When Chirag was asked about the possibility of joining the NDA, he said, "It will be against the &lsquo;maryada&rsquo; (decorum) of a coalition for me to make any announcement before them. The alliance (NDA) is likely to hold another round of talks before making up its mind".
While Chirag's affinity towards the BJP and his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi are well known, there is a proverbial thorn in the flesh.
His uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, who had led a revolt soon after his father's death that resulted in a split in the LJP, is a minister in the Union cabinet.
Both uncle and nephew have stated many times that they will not be part of any coalition that includes the other.
