In separate incidents on Monday, two SpiceJet flights were diverted to alternate airports due to technical issues, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew members on board.
The first incident occurred with a Delhi-Shillong SpiceJet flight, which experienced a mid-air technical glitch and was forced to divert to Patna. The aircraft safely landed at Patna&rsquo;s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport at 8:52 am. According to Patna Airport Director Anchal Prakash, the emergency landing was prompted by a bird strike, but the aircraft landed without incident, and all passengers and crew were unharmed. &ldquo;Alternative arrangements are being made for the passengers,&rdquo; Prakash confirmed.
The second incident involved a Kochi-bound SpiceJet flight, which was carrying 117 passengers and crew. The private carrier made an emergency landing in Chennai after a technical issue was detected mid-flight. The SpiceJet Q400 aircraft, which had originally departed from Chennai, returned to the airport and landed safely. A SpiceJet spokesperson assured that safety measures were in place, and passengers were deplaned upon arrival.
In both cases, the airline emphasized the safety of the passengers and crew, with both aircraft landing without any injuries. The incidents highlight the airline's commitment to ensuring the well-being of everyone on board in the event of technical difficulties.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has increased hiring in its sector to make air travel safer. This comes, amid the criticism the Indian Railways is facing for failing to filling up critical positions that would maintain and develop the infrastructure in the aftermath of Odisha triple train crash.
Recently, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in a press conference had said that there is a need to ramp up the institutional framework.
&ldquo;At this time of an increase in aircraft and airports, we also need to ramp up the institutional framework&rdquo;, said Scindia.
Since FY15, sectors across the aviation ministry has seen a hike in hirings. This includes induction of new air traffic control officers (ATCOs), in the Airport Authority of India (AAI), hiring additional personnel in regulatory bodies like Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Securities (BCAS), and the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA).
The number of ATCOs jumped by 100% in the last nine years. While there were 2,305 ATCOs in FY14, that number has now jumped to 4,554. Along with this, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has also obtained Finance Ministry's approval for the hiring of another 756 ATCOS.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, the DGCA's staff numbers also saw a rise of 36%. In FY14 DGCA had 1,252 employees which has increased to 1,703. The aviation security regulator BCAS has seen the maximum rise of 212% in the number of staff. From 191 in FY14, the manpower has risen to 595. Airport regulator AERA to saw an hiring hike of 46%.

The government is preparing to privatise the low cost carrier Alliance air and India's largest MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) player Air India Engineering services, simultaneously.&nbsp;
"The process of disinvestment of both the companies will be done simultaneously. Expressions of interest (EoIs) will be invited by the government in due course", Rajiv Bansal, civil aviation secretary said while speaking at the CAPA India Aviation Summit.&nbsp;
Bansal mentioned that the first and second steps of holding roadshows for the divestment of AIESL and the second step of approval from the group of ministers are completed. The final approval from the Alternative Mechanism for Disinvestment, a top ministerial panel, is awaited following which the expressions of interest will be invited, as per a report by Financial Express&nbsp;
AIESL, AIASL, and AAAL were subsidiaries of Air India when the government owned it. However, they were not part of Air India's privatisation. The Tata group took control of Air India from the government in January last year.
The divestment of Alliance Air has been in the works since the middle of last year but there hasn&rsquo;t been any formal EOI so far.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday issued revised Covid guidelines for passengers arriving in international flights, ahead of RT-PCR negative test report being made compulsory for travellers from six countries, including China and Thailand.
From January 1, 2023, a pre-departure RT-PCR negative test report will be mandatory for passengers coming in all international flights from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea, Thailand and Japan.
Airlines are directed to modify their check-in functionalities to incorporate the changes and issue boarding passes only to those international passengers travelling from the six countries who have submitted self-declaration forms on the Air Suvidha portal, the ministry said in a communication.

"Air Suvidha portal self-declaration has been made operational for passengers travelling in all international flights from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Japan, with a provision to allow these international travellers arriving in India to upload negative RT-PCR test reports as well as to submit self-declaration form," it said.
RT-PCR testing should have been done 72 hours prior to undertaking the journey.
The current practice of random testing of 2 per cent of arriving passengers in each international flight will also continue.
These decisions have been taken amid rising cases of coronavirus infections in various parts of the world and reports regarding the circulation of variants of SARS-CoV-2 in the six countries.
The ministry on Friday sent the communication regarding the revised guidelines to all scheduled commercial airlines, airport operators, and chief secretaries/ administrators of states/Union Territories, among others.

Aviation regulator DGCA issued a showcause notice to SpiceJet on Wednesday following eight technical malfunction incidents involving the airline's planes in the last 18 days.
SpiceJet has failed to "establish safe, efficient and reliable air services" under the terms of Rule 134 and Schedule XI of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, the notice issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated.
"The review (of the incidents) transpires that poor internal safety oversight and inadequate maintenance actions (as most of the incidents were related to either component failure or system-related failure) have resulted in degradation of the safety margins," it added.
The DGCA has given the airline three weeks to respond to the notice.
"Financial assessment carried out by DGCA in September 2021 has also revealed that the airline is operating on 'cash-and-carry' (model) and suppliers/approved vendors are not being paid on a regular basis, leading to shortage of spares and frequent invoking of MELs (minimum equipment lists)," the notice read.
Reacting to the DGCA notice, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia asserted that passenger safety is paramount.
"Even the smallest error hindering safety will be thoroughly investigated and course-corrected," the minister said in a tweet.

On Tuesday, a SpiceJet freighter aircraft, which was heading to Chongqing in China, returned to Kolkata as the pilots realised after the take-off that its weather radar was not working.
On Tuesday itself, the airline's Delhi-Dubai flight was diverted to Karachi due to a malfunctioning fuel indicator and its Kandla-Mumbai flight did priority landing in Maharashtra's capital city after cracks developed on its windshield mid-air.
On July 2, a SpiceJet flight heading to Jabalpur returned to Delhi after the crew members observed smoke in the cabin at an altitude of around 5,000 feet.
Fuselage door warnings lit up on two separate SpiceJet planes while taking off on June 24 and June 25, forcing the aircraft to abandon their journeys and return.
On June 19, an engine on the carrier's Delhi-bound aircraft carrying 185 passengers caught fire soon after it took off from the Patna airport and the plane made an emergency landing minutes later. The engine malfunctioned because of a bird hit.
In another incident on June 19, a SpiceJet flight for Jabalpur had to return to Delhi due to cabin pressurisation issues.
The airline has been making losses for the last three years. It incurred a net loss of Rs 316 crore, Rs 934 crore and Rs 998 crore in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 respectively.

The Delhi High Court on Friday called for strict action against those found violating masking and hand hygiene norms at airports and in aircraft, observing that the COVID-19 pandemic has not abated and keeps springing up its ugly head.
The high court said all such persons, who are found to be violating these norms, should be booked and fined and they should be placed on the no-fly list and added that it is essential to introduce sufficient deterrence to enforce compliance of norms.
It said it is noticed that very often the norms are not implemented on the ground with the seriousness with which they are framed and therefore, it is essential for the authorities, including Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure that the implementation on the ground is effected properly.
“For this purpose, we are of the view that the DGCA should give separate binding directions to all airlines to authorise the staff at airports and in aircraft, including air hostesses, captains, pilots and others to take strict action against passengers and others who violate the masking and hand hygiene norms,” a bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Sachin Datta said.
The court noted the submission of DGCA’s advocate Anjana Gosain, who herself is inflicted with COVID-19 and appeared through video conferencing, that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued another an order on May 10, calling for strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocol.
She said the authorities are seriously implementing norms regarding masking at airports and in aircraft by all concerned.
“The issuance of said order, in our view, is the right step since the pandemic has not abated and keeps springing up its ugly head,” the bench said, adding that guidelines are always in place and it is the practical compliance which becomes a problem and “we falter”.
It said let necessary steps be taken and further action taken report be placed before the court and listed the matter for further hearing on July 18.
The court’s order came in a PIL, registered on the experience of a sitting judge of the high court while travelling by a domestic flight during the pandemic.
Justice C Hari Shankar had on March 8, 2021, taken suo motu cognisance of the situation after witnessing passengers not wearing masks properly during transportation from airport to the flight and their stubborn reluctance to wear mask properly.
The court, which had issued various guidelines to the DGCA and airlines for immediate compliance, had said it was constrained to pass the order because of an alarming situation which was witnessed by the judge himself during an Air India flight from Kolkata to New Delhi on March 5, 2021.
During the hearing, the court observed that people may not wear N-95 masks in flights but they must at least wear a surgical mask as the idea is to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.
Doctors also wear surgical mask the whole day, the bench said, adding that only at the time of meals the passengers can take off the mask and the moment they finish their meals, they have to wear it again.
“People violating should be physically removed from the area if they have to be..,” it said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated a new international airport at Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh and said his government has taken a number of steps to instil new energy in the aviation sector.

The new airport, built at an estimated cost of Rs 260 crore, is part of the government's endeavour to connect Buddhist pilgrimage sites around the world.
After inaugurating the airport, Modi said it will boost connectivity and tourism, while also helping develop an entire economic ecosystem in the region and create new job opportunities.
He said the government&rsquo;s special attention to the development of places associated with Lord Buddha and developing Kushinagar are among the top priority areas for the UP and central governments.
Referring to the recent decision to privatise Air India, Modi said the country has taken a big step related to Air India so that its aviation sector should run professionally, and convenience and safety should be given priority.
"This step will give new energy to the aviation sector of India," the prime minister said and also referred to the reforms related to the opening of defence airspace for civil use.
On the newly launched 'PM Gatishakti- National Master Plan', Modi said this will not only improve the governance, but it will also be ensured that whether it is road, rail, or plane, they support each other and increase each other's capacity.
On the UDAN scheme, he said more than 900 new routes have been approved in the last few years, out of which air service has started on more than 350.
Besides, more than 50 new airports or those which were not in service earlier have been made operational, he added.
The new Kushinagar airport's terminal building is spread across 3,600 square metres. It has been developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in association with the Uttar Pradesh government.
The new terminal can handle 300 passengers during peak hours.
The airport will help in attracting more followers of Buddhism from home and abroad to Kushinagar and will enhance the development of a Buddhist theme-based circuit, according to the aviation ministry.
"Journey of Lumbini, Bodhgaya, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Shravasti, Rajgir, Sankisa and Vaishali of Buddhist circuit will be covered in lesser time," the civil aviation ministry said.

The new airport, built at an estimated cost of Rs 260 crore, is part of the government's endeavour to connect Buddhist pilgrimage sites around the world.
After inaugurating the airport, Modi said it will boost connectivity and tourism, while also helping develop an entire economic ecosystem in the region and create new job opportunities.
He said the government&rsquo;s special attention to the development of places associated with Lord Buddha and developing Kushinagar are among the top priority areas for the UP and central governments.
Referring to the recent decision to privatise Air India, Modi said the country has taken a big step related to Air India so that its aviation sector should run professionally, and convenience and safety should be given priority.
"This step will give new energy to the aviation sector of India," the prime minister said and also referred to the reforms related to the opening of defence airspace for civil use.
On the newly launched 'PM Gatishakti- National Master Plan', Modi said this will not only improve the governance, but it will also be ensured that whether it is road, rail, or plane, they support each other and increase each other's capacity.
On the UDAN scheme, he said more than 900 new routes have been approved in the last few years, out of which air service has started on more than 350.
Besides, more than 50 new airports or those which were not in service earlier have been made operational, he added.
The new Kushinagar airport's terminal building is spread across 3,600 square metres. It has been developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in association with the Uttar Pradesh government.
The new terminal can handle 300 passengers during peak hours.
The airport will help in attracting more followers of Buddhism from home and abroad to Kushinagar and will enhance the development of a Buddhist theme-based circuit, according to the aviation ministry.
"Journey of Lumbini, Bodhgaya, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Shravasti, Rajgir, Sankisa and Vaishali of Buddhist circuit will be covered in lesser time," the civil aviation ministry said.
