Madhya Pradesh: several hurt, 100 booked after clash breaks out over entering temples on Mahashivratri 

The official said the dispute started two days back when the Dalit community members wanted to set up a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar on land near the temple and they also cut a tree.

Police have registered cases against more than 100 people following two disputes over entering temples at different places in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district, officials said on Sunday.
One of the incidents took place on Saturday in Chhapra village under Sanawad police station limits when people reached the temple to offer prayer on the occasion of Mahashivratri, they said, adding both the sides pelted each other with stones.
Besides, a similar incident occurred on Saturday under Kasrawad police station limits in the district, the officials said.
In Chhapra village, the dispute occurred when some members belonging to the Dalit community tried to enter into the temple constructed by people of three other communities, Sub Divisional Officer of Police Vinod Dixit said.
Stones were pelted from both the sides during the incident, he said.
The official said the dispute started two days back when the Dalit community members wanted to set up a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar on a land near the temple and they also cut a tree. The district and police administration officials had later reached the spot and settled the issue, he said.

However, the Dalit community members alleged they were stopped from entering the temple on Saturday and beaten up by the other group, the official said.
Following a complaint by one Premlal, a case was registered against 17 named persons and 25 others under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Dixit said.
Based on a complaint of Ravindra Rao Maratha from another group, a case was registered under relevant IPC provisions against 33 named people and 25 others for the alleged attacked through weapons and stones by Premlal and others, he added.
In another case, a Dalit woman complained that she was not allowed to enter a temple under Kasrawad police station limits in the district, Sub Divisional Officer of Police Manohar Gawli said.
Later, the woman offered prayers at the temple under police protection, he said. A case was registered against four women and a man under provisions of the SC/ST Act and the IPC, he added.

The students had staged a protest seeking the release of fellowship which they claimed to have not received in over a year.
Around a dozen students have been hurt in the assault, the right-wing group said.
JNU administration did not respond to calls or texts, reported PTI.
"Today students 'gheraoed' the administration office regarding the issue of fellowship and scholarship. Students said that the university administration has been ignoring their demands for the release of fellowships and scholarships for a long time," JNU's Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad president Rohit Kumar said.
"The JNU administration carried out a violent attack on the students to suppress the scholarship scam. The students were badly beaten up by the administration by ordering the security staff," he added.
As many as 12 students, including four female students, suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment, said ABVP activist Ambuj.
"A dozen suffered injuries after Cyclops attacked them on the order of administration," he said.
Cyclops is the firm tasked with managing security on the JNU campus.
Meanwhile, A senior police officer said neither a PCR call was received regarding the incident nor a complaint has been received at the Vasant Kunj (North) police station.
"Appropriate action will be taken based on the complaint we receive," the officer said. PTI

Clashes reported in Srinagar's Maisuma after NIA court sentenced separatist Yasin Malik to life in prison.
Malik, who was sentenced in a terror financing case, hails from Maisuma which is in vicinity of Lal Chowk.
Parts of Srinagar observed a spontaneous shutdown on Wednesday ahead of the sentencing in the case in which Malik had pleaded guilty to all charges.

The order for internet&nbsp;suspension across Jodhpur&nbsp;district has been issued by Jodhpur&nbsp;Divisional Commissioner Himanshu Gupta.&nbsp;

The police have arrested three people in connection with the clashes that broke out in Patiala on April 29.  The police arrested Barjinder Singh Parwana, who they are calling the ‘main conspirator’ in the clashes that rocked the city.  The accused was flown in from Mumbai and arrested on Sunday morning.  Reports say Parwana had earlier made news for inciting violence on social media too.  Police registered six FIRs and arrested three accused in connection with the violence, IG MS Chhina said. He also said that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators.

A minor skirmish led to stone pelting between two communities at Holagunda village in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh but the situation has returned to normal after police intervened and pacified both the sides, police sources said on Sunday.
The skirmish occurred on Saturday night while a religious procession was being taken out on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, police sources said.
When the procession reached a mosque in the village, the Jayanti organisers switched off the mike, in reverence to the Ramzan observation. But some devotees allegedly chanted 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans.
Irked by this, the Muslims started pelting stones at the Hanuman Jayanti procession. The Jayanti participants too retaliated, police said.
The police then took the two sides to the local police station to quell the frenzy. Some tension prevailed even at the station but the authorities gave a stern warning to the two sides and brokered peace, the sources added.
Kurnool Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Reddy rushed to Holagunda village to oversee the situation. Additional police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
BJP state president Somu Veerraju condemned the incident and state that the attack on the Hanuman Jayanti procession began from the mosque.
Veerraju demanded that the perpetrators be arrested immediately.

A minor skirmish led to stone pelting between two communities at Holagunda village in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh but the situation has returned to normal after police intervened and pacified both the sides, police sources said on Sunday.

When the procession reached a mosque in the village, the Jayanti organisers switched off the mike, in reverence to the Ramzan observation. But some devotees allegedly chanted 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans.
Irked by this, the Muslims started pelting stones at the Hanuman Jayanti procession. The Jayanti participants too retaliated, police said.
The police then took the two sides to the local police station to quell the frenzy. Some tension prevailed even at the station but the authorities gave a stern warning to the two sides and brokered peace, the sources added.
Kurnool Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Reddy rushed to Holagunda village to oversee the situation. Additional police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
BJP state president Somu Veerraju condemned the incident and state that the attack on the Hanuman Jayanti procession began from the mosque.
Veerraju demanded that the perpetrators be arrested immediately.&nbsp;
