Unraveling the financial labyrinth, the last Games in Birmingham cost $962 million, yet Victoria's government estimated a budget of $1.77 billion, but the potential costs rose to an astonishing $4.77 billion. Reflecting on the costliest edition, the 2010 Games hosted by India, where a $250 million allocation morphed into a staggering $11 billion, the question arises: Why is hosting the Commonwealth Games, akin to the Olympics, becoming an insurmountable financial challenge?

In a bold move, Victoria's Premier, Daniel Andrews, laid bare the stark truth behind their withdrawal. Addressing the press, he questioned the logic of allocating $6-7 billion for a 12-day sporting spectacle, expressing a resolute stance against diverting funds from essential services like hospitals and schools.

A day after Australian state Victoria backed out of hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games, The Times of India has reported that the Gujarat state goverment is likely to bid for the marquee event. While preparations are underway in the state to bid for 2036 Olympics with infrastructure likely to be ready by 2026, the TOI has cited quoting sources, 'Gujarat government is actively considering the prospect of bidding to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games and is hopeful that the Union Government will be in favour of Ahmedabad's bidding.' Gujarat government is constructing two sport complexes around the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad that will host sports of various Olympic disciplines. The Sardar Vallabbhai Patel Sports Enclave, one of the two complexes, is to be built over an area of 236 acres at the stadium and is expected to cost about Rs 4,600 crore. The Gujarat government's decision to bid, as reported by TOI, comes even as Victoria cited major budgeting issues as the reason for withdrawin as host. The calculated cost of A$2.6 billion was running higher upto A$7 billion, an amount the Victorian Premier was not ready to spend.

2026 Commonwealth Games were slated to be held in Victoria however now its organizers will have to find a new host city.&nbsp;

In an unprecedented move, Australia has announced the decision to not host the 2026 Commonwealth Games citing budget issues.&nbsp; The quadrennial event was scheduled to be held in Australian state of Victoria across various cities. However, the region's Premier Daniel Andrews announced on July 18 that Victoria will not host the 2026 CWG.&nbsp; According to Andrews, the decision was made after it was learnt that the cost of hosting the event would amount A$7 billion, a sharp rise from the estimated A$2.6 billion.&nbsp; 'What&rsquo;s become clear is that the cost of hosting these games in 2026 is not the $2.6bn which was budgeted and allocated,' Andrews reasoned stating that he was not ready to spend so much on a 12-day sporting event.&nbsp; 'It is in fact at least $6bn and could be as high as $7bn &ndash; and I cannot stand here and say to you that I have any confidence that even the $7bn number would appropriately and adequately fund these Games,' the politician added.&nbsp; Andrews stated that the money would instead be used to fund housing and sporting infrastructures of the state.&nbsp; The Premier said, 'We have informed Commonwealth Games authorities of our decision to seek to terminate the contract, and to &hellip; not host the games.'&nbsp; The Commonwealth Games Federation called the move 'hugely disappointing' adding that it was focused on finding a solution.&nbsp; 'We are disappointed that we were only given eight hours&rsquo; notice and that no consideration was given to discussing the situation to jointly find solutions prior to this decision being reached by the Government,' the CWG Federation's statement read.&nbsp;
The Commonwealth Games has only ever been cancelled during the Second World War but the tournament's occurrence now remains in limbo until its organizers can come up with a new solution.&nbsp;

This is Bajrang's first training session since his Tokyo performance.
In a statement, Bajrang said that he choose to train in Russia as wrestlers in this country win most medals in Olympic Games and World Championships and he would draw benefit from training with them.

In a chat with&nbsp;PTI, Gopichand said that Srikanth's game got sharper as the tournament progresses, and gained confidence after beating Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia and Japan's Kento Momota in the year 2021.
However, Gopichand advised Srikanth to curb his errors to be more consistent going forward as big-ticket events such as Commonwealth Games and Asian Games are lined up in the year 2022.
Notably, Srikanth will be defending his men's singles title at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
