The CPI(M) urged voters to defeat the BJP, strengthen the Left, and ensure the formation of an alternative secular government at the Centre.&nbsp;

The CPI(M) on Thursday released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, promising to scrap all "draconian" laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The CPI(M) appealed to voters to defeat the BJP, strengthen the Left, and ensure the formation of an alternative secular government at the Centre.
In its manifesto, the party pledged to fight for "an uncompromising adherence to the principle that religion is separated from politics".
"The CPI(M) stands for the scrapping of all draconian laws like UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act) and PMLA," the manifesto stated.
The party said it will "fight for a law against hate speech and crimes, is committed to scrapping" the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) promised to tax the super rich and introduce a law on general wealth tax and inheritance tax.
The party said the budgetary allocation for job guarantee scheme MGNREGA must be doubled and a new law guaranteeing urban employment must be legislated.
The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases between April 19 and June 1. The results will be declared on June 4.

Veteran politician Kodiyeri Balakrishnan died on 1 October 2022 at a hospital in Tamil Nadu's Chennai. The senior CPI(M) leader had been diagnosed with cancer, and was admitted to Apollo Hospital. He was 69 years old.
Balakrishnan was a multiple-time MLA, and had served as Kerala's Home and Tourism Minister in VS Achuthanandan's Cabinet between 2006 and 2011. He was a polit bureau member of the CPI(M), and had also served as the party's state secretary between 2015 and 2022.
He had relinquished the party state secretary post in August 2022 due to ill health.
CPI(M) said that it was "dipping the red flag in homage" to the late leader. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan postponed his Europe trip on 1 October, in view of Balakrishnan's failing health.

A startling video of a violent fight between college students has emerged from Kerala.The video purportedly shows members of Congress' KSU and CPI(M)'s SFI engaged in a violent altercation.Both sides blamed each other for initiating the fight.The incident reportedly occurred on March 15, during inauguration of a college students' union at the Trivandrum Law College.KSU, or the Kerala Students' Union reportedly claimed that its members were celebrating their victory in the college elections, when disgruntled Students' Federation of India members began assaulting them.The SFI was quoted as saying that a KSU member had misbehaved with a woman, which led to the fight.KSU's Safna Yakub, Ashik Ashraf, and Nithin Thampi, and SFI's Anandu were reportedly admitted to the hospital with injuries.Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reportedly commented in the Assembly on the incident.He reportedly said that police have registered a case.Congress' student wing NSUI condemned the incident, accusing SFI of following a motto of 'Goondaism, Terror, and Fascism'.
The BJP also used the opportunity to train its guns at both the ruling Left, and Opposition Congress.
