Former Australia cricketer and commentator Michael Slater has been remanded in police custody after being charged with offences including common assault and stalking.
According to the Guardian, 54-year-old Slater has been charged with more than a dozen offences including unlawful stalking or intimidation, common assault, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, assault occasioning bodily harm and choking or suffocation.
Slater&rsquo;s case was mentioned at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court in Queensland on Monday. The report did not identify the alleged victim.
He is facing a total of 19 charges on the alleged offences at the Sunshine Coast on various dates between December 5 last year and April 12.

Cricket Australia has yet again expressed interest in hosting an India-Pakistan Test series if the two Asian neighbours agree to play against each other in future at a neutral venue.

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2012-13 due to the diplomatic tension between the two nations. They lock horns only at the ICC or continental events.

Both India and Pakistan are scheduled to tour Australia in November this year.
Pakistan will play three ODIs and T20Is before India's five-Test series against the hosts.
The Melbourne Cricket Club and the Victorian government had expressed interest in hosting the two teams in bilateral matches at the MCG after close to one lakh people thronged the iconic stadium to watch India and Pakistan clash during the 2022 T20 World Cup.
"I think anyone that was here for the India-Pakistan game at the MCG, it will go down as one of the most memorable occasions, not just sporting occasions, that I've ever been to," CA chief executive Nick Hockley said according to ESPNCricinfo.
"So people want to see that contest. We would love to host that if the opportunity arose. If we can play a role, we'd love to play a role.
"We're so excited to host Pakistan. We're so excited to host India. If we can help, that's great. But I think in many ways, that's a bilateral series. It's really for others to make that happen."
CA's head of scheduling Peter Roach acknowledged said they are not averse to idea of hosting on tri-series ODI, involving India and Pakistan, like it happened back in 1999-2000 season, though he admitted that it will be difficult to squeeze in a series in an already choc-a-bloc calender.
"We haven't got a tri-series in the FTP. Going forward, we're always interested in opportunities for matches and contests that will engage our fans. It's fair to say every country in the world would love to see India and Pakistan compete in their country.
"We're on record as saying we're one of those countries that has asked the question. There's no room in the schedules to do that at the moment. We'll keep talking to them in any other opportunities that arise, but in this specific example there are not going to be any changes to the schedule."

The blow left him visibly disturbed as he kneeled on the pitch. The medical staff rushed to the centre. He eventually got up and slowly walked off the field, rubbing his eyes.
"Will is currently in the hands of our medical professionals," a Cricket Victoria spokesperson said. "We'll look to provide an update in due course." Reserve batter Campbell Kellaway came in as a concussion substitute.

Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday announced their decision to reduce the number of matches in the Big Bash League.
BBL would be reduced to 10 games per franchise a year earlier than planned after reaching an agreement with broadcasters. CA confirmed that the reduction from 56 to 40 regular-season games will take effect this season.
The playoffs will also be altered, with 4 teams qualifying instead of 5, and a 4-match finals format yet to be determined. The tournament schedule is expected to be released in July, with matches beginning in December.
'A shortened BBL will allow us greater flexibility to ensure we can deliver the best possible fixture for clubs and fans while providing a platform that allows players to continue to produce the world-class levels of cricket we've seen over the duration of the tournament,' BBL general manager Alistair Dobson stated.
However, Women's Big Bash will remain unchanged from its 59-game season.

Steve Smith who wanted to play in New York might just get the chance after Cricket New South Wales sealed a partnership deal with the Washington DC franchise ahead of America's Major League Cricket's inaugural season. 

The deal could allow the Australian players to feature in the inaugural season of the league which is slated to begin on July 13 in Texas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cricket New South Wales has partnered with America's Major League Cricket (MLC) and Washington DC franchise, which could pave the way for several Australian players, including Steve Smith, to ply their trade in the United States.
Smith has been quoted as saying in recent interviews that he is open to playing in MLC, and that several cricketers in the back end of their careers could also take that route.
"Cricket NSW has launched a historic strategic partnership with Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States that will include collaboration on player development initiatives, touring opportunities and coaching education exchanges.
"To further strengthen ties with the most exciting new frontier of the global T20 landscape, CNSW has also agreed to a high-performance partnership with the Washington D.C. franchise that will be one of six founding teams in the opening season of MLC when it launches on July 13, 2023," said a Cricket NSW statement on Friday.
The six teams which will compete in the 18-day inaugural MLC season will come from major metropolitan areas -- Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Seattle and New York City.
They will boast of multiple global stars on their rosters alongside players based in the US.
"I think the opportunities for all of our (Australian) players are going to be brilliant," CNSW CEO, Lee Germon, was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald on Friday.
"Steve (Smith) absolutely has made no secret that he loves New York, but there are also two or three other players I've spoken to who would love to be able to play cricket in the United States," he added.
"With the global cricket landscape currently undergoing a significant transition, we view the United States as a market with immense growth potential," Germon said in the official statement.
MLC co-founder Sameer Mehta, said, "We're delighted to be able to partner with Cricket New South Wales. As our cricketing ecosystem in the United States continues to grow, adding the support of an organisation with Cricket New South Wales&rsquo;s experience enables us to rapidly accelerate the development of key personnel, including players, coaches and support staff.&rdquo;

India's innings and 132-run victory against Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy here on Saturday has helped them move closer to a second World Test Championship (WTC) final berth while extending the Pat Cummins-led side's wait for a title round spot confirmation.
Following the win, crafted by the Indian spin-bowling pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, No.2 India are now on 61.67 percentage points as compared to 70.83 of No.1 Australia.
However, India still need two more wins from the remaining three Tests of the series to guarantee themselves a minimum points percentage of 62.50, which would beyond doubt knock third-placed Sri Lanka out of contention.
If India win all three remaining matches of the series, they could reach the best possible percentage of 68.06.
India's innings win while extending Australia's wait in the WTC final race, also shut the door on England and the West Indies' hopes of securing a berth in the 2021-23 cycle of the Test championship.
Australia still have plenty of cushion to make the WTC final, but a 0-4 loss to India could bring third-placed Sri Lanka back in contention, as the Islanders still have a two-match Test fixture against New Zealand commencing next week.
In the event of Rohit Sharma's side making a clean sweep of the series, Australia's points percentage will drop to 59.64. If Sri Lanka manage to win both their Tests against the Blackcaps, it will take their points percentage to 61.1, which will be good enough to get them past Australia and secure a WTC final berth.
However, Sri Lanka will be better served if Australia goes undefeated in at least two of the next three Tests, as a 2-0 win for India would only take Rohit's side to a 60.64 points percentage.
Sri Lanka can then better it by making a clean sweep of the two-match Test series against the Kiwis and leapfrog India to seal a WTC summit clash against Australia.
But going by Indian spinners' exploits in the first Test in Nagpur and the playing conditions expected to favour the home side, it's unlikely Rohit's side will stop at just two wins.
"For Australia, a win in any of the next three Tests will help them to a minimum points percentage of 64.91, while a draw would help them finish at 61.40 (provided there are no points lost on over-rate), still enough for them to make it to the final ahead of Sri Lanka, who can at best finish at 61.11 points percentage," according to the calculation made by the ICC.
South Africa will play a home series against the West Indies in February-March, but even a sweep in that contest might not be enough depending on Sri Lanka's showing in New Zealand and the result of the series between India and Australia.

Cricket Australia confirmed they took the decision to pull out of the series in the UAE after extensive consultation with the Australian Government.
CA said they are committed to growing the game for women and men around the world, including Afghanistan, and that they cannot proceed with the series that's part of the ODI Super League due to restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women&rsquo;s and girls&rsquo; education and employment opportunities.

The first South Asian Muslim in Australian Cricket, Usman Khawaja, who has been able to carve a niche in Test cricket for himself has opened up about racism in Australian cricket.&nbsp; While the Test opener who recently scored a 195 at SCG against South Africa did not outright accuse anyone, feels that the overwhelming whiteness of Australian cricket is the reason behind the racism. In a podcast show, Drop, the 36-year-old highlighted that the bias is subconscious and went on to add, 'if you have 2 cricketers one white, one brown, both the same, the white coach is going to pick the white cricketer just because he has a son who might look similar to him' Khawaja who made his Test debut in 2011, further blatantly said, 'There's been plenty of times, I should have been picked, but was not The Australian cricketer who has so far played 56 Tests, 40 ODIs and 9 T20Is is the only South Asian to play Tests for Australia.&nbsp;

MCC chief executive Stuart Fox told SEN radio that he intends to host 3 Tests between the rival nations at MCG.&nbsp;

Melbourne Cricket Club has expressed its interest in hosting the top-billing clash between India and Pakistan, who otherwise haven't played a bilateral series since 2012-13.&nbsp;

Fox revealed that the body has spoken to Cricket Australia, who in turn would speak to ICC regarding the same. Fox further said he understands that the busy schedule of the 2 cricketing nations will be the biggest challenge.&nbsp;
The last time India and Pakistan played a bilateral Test series against each other was in 2007.&nbsp;

BCCI is reportedly unwilling to host another Day/Night Test in India. Even during Australia's tour of India which will happen in February, no pink ball Test will be conducted, as per reports.&nbsp;
While no specific reasons have been enlisted, as per a BCCI official, it is majorly about the dissatisfaction of the stakeholders which is mostly around the slump in the duration of the day-nighter Test matches.&nbsp;
As per statistics, of the total 20 Tests that have been played worldwide, only 6 have reached the fifth day. The records are poorer for India, none of the D/N Test games have reached the fifth day. Games against Bangladesh, England and Sri Lanka lasted just 3, 2 and 3 days respectively.
While the BCCI official did not outright mention the grievances of the stakeholders, they said, it leads to a lot of issues, particularly with the public who buy tickets for 5 days.&nbsp;

Accusing the Australian board of double standards, Clarke stated Cricket Australia was inconsistent with the three players who were involved in the 'Sandpaper-gate'. While Steve Smith &amp; Cameron Bancroft were also involved in the ball-tampering episode, only Warner among the three copped a lifetime leadership ban.

Warner was banned from holding a leadership for Australia after his involvement in the 2018 ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.&nbsp;

With the new code of conduct in place, 36-year-old Warner will be allowed to apply for review to a panel of three code of conduct commissioners.
The change might allow Warner to lead Australia in future. He can also take up a leadership role for Sydney Thunder in Big Bash League.

Here's what Cricket Australia's new code of conduct states:

<li>Under the changes, players and support staff can now apply to have long-term sanctions modified.</li>
<li>Any applications will be considered by a three-person review panel, comprising independent code of conduct commissioners which must be satisfied that exceptional circumstances exist to justify modifying a sanction.</li>
<li>These circumstances and considerations will include whether the subject of the sanction has demonstrated genuine remorse.</li>
<li>The subject's conduct and behaviour since the imposition of the sanction.</li>
<li>Whether rehabilitation programs have been completed undertaken (if applicable) and the length of time that has passed since the sanction was imposed and whether sufficient time has passed to allow for reform or rehabilitation.</li>
