The CRPF has introduced a first-of-its-kind online service, enabling the public to adopt retired sniffer and assault dogs from India's largest paramilitary force, ensuring that these four-legged soldiers get a comfortable second life.
This initiative marks the first time any security force has made its trained dogs available for public adoption. In the past, there were concerns over the potential misuse of these highly trained and motivated dogs by anti-national groups. Until now, retired dogs from the central forces and state police were handed over to registered NGOs or reputable organizations for their care.
Now, over 30 dogs from four breeds&mdash;Belgian Shepherd Malinois, German Shepherd, Labrador, and the indigenous Mudhol Hound&mdash;are available for adoption through a comprehensive process monitored by the CRPF's specialized Dog Breeding and Training School (DBTS) near Bengaluru.
These dogs, aged between 8 and 12 years, have been part of numerous operations in anti-Naxal, counter-insurgency, and counter-terrorism efforts across the country. Their actions have saved the lives of many soldiers, especially by detecting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and preventing deadly ambushes laid by Maoists and terrorists. Dogs like Baloo, Sweety, Veeru, Moby, Coco, and Stroll have undergone intense training in various roles, including explosive detection, tracking, infantry patrol, and assault.
The adoption process is free, and potential adopters can view basic details and pictures of the dogs available for adoption on the CRPF website. Interested parties must complete a form that outlines their reasons for adopting the dog, how they plan to care for the canine (e.g., as a companion, guard, or therapy dog), and provide accommodation details.
A compatibility meeting will be arranged between the adopter and the dog at a designated camp. The dogs will be groomed by behavior experts to help them adjust to a domestic environment. A brief profile, picture, and citation for each dog, referred to as "soldier buddies," will be available on the CRPF portal. It is emphasized that the adopter should treat the dog with dignity, compassion, and due care.
The CRPF will sign a legally binding agreement with the adopter, providing the KCI (Kennel Club of India) registration certificate, vaccination records, and other important documents for the dog.
"Initiating public adoption of our retired dogs is an effort to ensure a happy second life for our canine soldiers," said CRPF Deputy Inspector General Moses Dhinakaran.
Clear terms and conditions are in place to ensure no abuse or ill-treatment of the dogs. They cannot be sold or used for any commercial purposes or deployed against any individual. The CRPF will conduct periodic checks and maintain regular communication with the adopters through short videos and live videoconferencing. The adopter is also responsible for providing emotional and therapeutic care, especially if the dog is found to be distressed.
Through this initiative, the CRPF hopes to ensure that these brave and loyal dogs find a loving home and family. The force highlights the temperament of Zina, a Belgian Shepherd Malinois, as an example of an ideal companion&mdash;loyal and protective, yet gentle, making her perfect for families.

Once the firefight subsided, the bodies of seven Naxalites, all wearing uniforms, were recovered. Authorities have continued search operations in the area to ensure all Naxalite elements are neutralized.

The country's largest paramilitary force CRPF has issued a fresh set of social media guidelines for its personnel, asking them not to comment on controversial or political matters that may come back to "haunt" them later.
The two-page instructions were issued last week by the headquarters of the force in Delhi after it was noticed that the "force personnel were taking recourse to social media platforms to vent their personal grievances which is in violation of CCS conduct Rules 1964 and may attract disciplinary action".
A circular issued in this context has been accessed by PTI and it states that the new guidelines are being issued to make aware the personnel against "cyber bullying and harassment" and also to sensitise them.
The guidelines suggested some "don'ts" including not revealing the exact posting and nature of work if working in a sensitive ministry or organisation.

Amid incessant rainfall, frantic rescue operations continued at the Hindu shrine with the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police), NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) working round-the-clock.
Around 15,000 people had been moved to safety by July 9 afternoon. Many pilgrims stuck around the Amarnath cave shrine were moved to Panchtarni, the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra.
The IAF sent Mi-17 helicopters from Srinagar to aid rescue operations. The choppers had earlier been unable to take off due to bad weather.
To look for survivors beneath debris, two through-wall radar, and two search & rescue dogs were also sent to the site via chopper.
The Amarnath Yatra has been suspended for now. Disaster struck at around 5:30 on 8 July when a "highly localised" cloud above the Amarnath cave released 31 mm of rain in just 2 hours.
The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of severe rainfall in the upper reaches.

The incident happened around 2.30 pm in Patadhara Reserve Forest near Sahajpani village in Bheden block, they said.
"Unfortunately, three jawans have attended martyrdom in Nuapada. Our senior officers are on the way to the site," Odisha's Director-General of Police SK Bansal told PTI in the evening.
The troops were attacked when they were engaged in a road opening and clearing operation, officials said.
It is suspected that the Maoists had prior information regarding the movement of the forces, they said.
The Maoists attacked the troops using improvised or crudely-made barrel grenade launchers (BGLs), they said.
"The troops retaliated forcing the Maoists to flee," a CRPF spokesperson said in New Delhi said.
According to a preliminary report, seven jawans were on the move when the incident took place, officials said in Bhubaneswar said.
The deceased were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shishu Pal Singh, a native of UP, ASI Shiv Lal who hailed from Haryana, and Constable Dharmendra Kumar Singh, a native of Bihar. They were with the 19th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Combing operations have been intensified in the area, and more teams of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF were at the site, officials said.
The operations would continue till the Maoists are flushed out, the DGP said, expressing deep condolences to the bereaved families.
The supreme sacrifice of the personnel would not go in vain, he said.
The CRPF recently said that some of its forward operation bases in Chhattisgarh were attacked in the last six months using 100-150 explosives-filled devices. These rocket-shaped crude devices have been named BGL by the force as they have an iron casing and fins at the tail.

Terrorists hurled grenades at two CRPF camps in Shopian and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, injuring three personnel, police said.
"At about 8:10 pm, terrorists hurled a grenade upon the camp of 178 Battalion of the CRPF at Babapora in Zainapora area of the south Kashmir district of Shopian," a police official said.
In another incident, terrorists threw a grenade at the camp of 180 Battalion of the CRPF at Nowdal in Tral area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir, the official said.
The attacks came on a day the paramilitary force held its 83rd Raising Day parade in Jammu. Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the CRPF Day event, held for the first time outside the national capital.
The home minister said the biggest work done in Jammu and Kashmir is that the CAPFs have taken "decisive control" of the fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and in the next few years, "I am sure that we will be able to restore peace (in J&K and in naxal and extremism affected areas of the country, including in the northeast), and if it happens, the credit will go to CRPF jawans.”
The Border Security Force, the Indo-Tibetian Border Police, the Central Reserve Police Force, the Central Industrial Security Force, the Sashastra Seema Bal are among the CAPFs. Of them, the CRPF is the country largest paramilitary force.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday also reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and laid emphasis on proactive operations against terrorists and choking their logistical and financial support systems.
Shah said the security grid should be further strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism completely in order to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah, who is on a two-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir, reviewed the security situation here with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and senior officers of the central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration, an official spokesman said.
He appreciated the improvement in the security situation, reduction in terror incidents from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021 and decrease in the number of slain security forces personnel from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.
Shah emphasised on proactive operations against terrorists and denying them safe haven or financial support.

Few hours after this statement by Home Minister Amit Shah at the CRPF Day event in Jammu, 3 CRPF personnel were injured as militants hurled grenades at two separate camps of the para-military in Shopian and Pulwama.

The Home Minister, who is on a two-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir, also reviewed the security situation in the union territory with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officers of the central government and the local administration.
An official statement said that he appreciated the reduction in terror incidents from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021 and decrease in the number of slain security forces personnel from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.

In another incident, terrorists threw a grenade at the camp of 180 Battalion of the CRPF at Nowdal in Tral area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir, the official said.
The attacks came on a day the paramilitary force held its 83rd Raising Day parade in Jammu. Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the CRPF Day event, held for the first time outside the national capital.
The home minister said the biggest work done in Jammu and Kashmir is that the CAPFs have taken "decisive control" of the fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and in the next few years, "I am sure that we will be able to restore peace (in J&amp;K and in naxal and extremism affected areas of the country, including in the northeast), and if it happens, the credit will go to CRPF jawans.&rdquo;

The Border Security Force, the Indo-Tibetian Border Police, the Central Reserve Police Force, the Central Industrial Security Force, the Sashastra Seema Bal are among the CAPFs. Of them, the CRPF is the country largest paramilitary force.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday also reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and laid emphasis on proactive operations against terrorists and choking their logistical and financial support systems.
Shah said the security grid should be further strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism completely in order to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah, who is on a two-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir, reviewed the security situation here with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and senior officers of the central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration, an official spokesman said.
He appreciated the improvement in the security situation, reduction in terror incidents from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021 and decrease in the number of slain security forces personnel from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.
Shah emphasised on proactive operations against terrorists and denying them safe haven or financial support.

Four CRPF personnel were killed and three others injured after their colleague opened fire at them in a camp of the paramilitary force in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Monday, a police official said.
The incident took place at around 3.15 am in the camp of the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) 50th battalion in Linganpalli village under Maraiguda police station of the area of the district, located nearly 400 km from the state capital Raipur, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.
As per preliminary information, constable Reetesh Ranjan fired at his colleagues with his service weapon, an AK-47 rifle, the official said.
The seven injured personnel were immediately shifted to a hospital in nearby Bhadrachalam area of neighbouring Telangana, where doctors declared four of them dead on arrival, the official said.
Those killed were identified as constables Rajmani Kumar Yadav, Rajib Mondal, Dhanji and Dharmendra Kumar, he said, adding that three other injured personnel were being treated at the hospital.
"The motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is on into the incident," the official said.
Constable Ranjan was immediately held and his interrogation is underway, he said.
In a similar incident of fratricide in January this year, a CRPF jawan was killed and another one injured after their colleague opened fire at them in their camp in the state's Bastar district, police earlier said.
The offender had then tried to commit suicide by shooting himself, they said.&nbsp;

After completion of their training, the batch will be posted in Naxal-affected areas alongside their male counterparts. Talking abut the move, CRPF DG AP Maheshwari said that If we discriminate on the basis of gender, it shows our poor leadership qualities. He confirmed that after training, these commandos will be deployed in Maoist areas.
