A 45-year-old mother of two has proved that age is just a number by cycling solo about 4000 km from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh in about 14 days.

Her feat made her the first woman solo cyclist to ride across the country from West to East in just 14 days.

Pune-based Preeti Maske began her ride from Koteshwar Temple in the western border with Pakistan on November 1 and cycled her way through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, expedition's chief crew Ghanshyam Raghuwanshi told PTI on Monday.
Maske completed her 3995 km ride in 13 days, 19 hours and 12 minutes to reach Kibithu, near the border with China in Arunachal Pradesh at midnight of November 14, he said.
Her feat made her the first woman solo cyclist to ride across the country from West to East in just 14 days.
Maske had taken up cycling five years ago to combat illness and depression.
The paperwork, evidence, time stamp pictures have been submitted and accepted by World Ultra Cycling Association and Guisness World Record. "They will process the same and award the certificate in due course'', Raghuwanshi said.
It took time to provide the information to the media due to poor digital network issues in the remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh. It delayed the completion of the required formalities with WUCA-GWR.
Maske was followed by a five-member crew in a vehicle. She faced many challenges along the way, particularly in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh with a total elevation gain of 15,679 m.
"Cycling was tough in these treacherous areas as there was heavy head wind from Darbhanga in Bihar. After Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh, the route is treacherous with elevation, bad roads, boulders and construction work," she told PTI.

Besides, the temperature dropped to 2-3 degrees celsius in Arunachal Pradesh during the evening and night. "This made it difficult to ride and we also didn't have adequate warm clothing. With zero network and abandoned roads, we missed the direction and had to take a longer route in the night,'' Maske said.
The Border Roads Organisation gave the necessary logistic and navigational support which helped her to complete the expedition.
Maske cycled for almost 350 kms in the first ten days with an average saddle cycling time of 19 hours.
"Managing sleep deprivation in a continuous non-stop ride was a challenge. I was cycling continuously for 19 hours and sometimes for more than 24 hours. It was coffee that kept me awake," she said.
Maske got a severe cramp in her legs near the Assam-Arunachal border. ''It appeared that she would have to call off the rest of the ride but with massage, stretching exercises and rest she recovered," Raghuwanshi said.
She undertook the expedition to support and create awareness for organ donation for the organisation RebirthThrust.org.&nbsp;

National coach RK Sharma, who was dismissed recently after India’s top cyclist accused him of sexual harassment, is facing another allegation of objectionable behavior by International gold medallist Deborah Herold. 
While speaking to The Indian Express, the national champion said that she was removed from the national team, after the team’s assistant coach, Gautamani Devi ‘thought she was in a relationship with another female cyclist’. 
Clarifying that Devi misunderstood their relationship, the Andaman-based cyclist spoke about the discomfort she faced before being removed from the national camp. The 27-year-old said that the coach & the assistant coach constantly harassed her by ignoring her, taunting her, and eventually she was also isolated from the rest of the cyclists. 
Herold was removed from the team in 2018, when she was the country’s fastest cyclist in 200m sprint and 500m time trial events. 
The National champion also accused Sharma of ‘slapping’ her in 2015. ‘The ac in my room was not working, I went to a fellow boy’s room for which he slapped me twice, she said.
Apart from Herold, 2 other members of the national team have also accused Sharma of ‘constantly harassing and threatening them’ which they said, affected their performance over the years. 
Sports Authority of India dismissed RK Sharma from his position after a top cyclist alleged that the coach forced her to stay in his room, offered her a post-training massage, forcefully tried to pull her towards himself, and asked her to sleep with him during a camp in Slovenia in May.

A top Indian woman cyclist registered a complaint to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) accusing the national coach RK Sharma of harassment. 
According to the complaint, the incident took place on 29 May during the team's tour of Slovenia where the national coach Sharma forced himself into the cyclist's room and harassed her. The cyclist was brought back to India on June 3. The cyclist is also a part of the elite Target Olympic Podium Scheme.
SAI released a statement in which they said that the SAI brought the complainant back to India to ensure her safety and has also constituted a committee to investigate the matter. 
"The matter is being dealt with on priority and will be resolved shortly," the statement read.
The Cycling Federation of India said that they stand with the complainant they also formed a probe panel of its own.

The Cycling Federation of India has formed a probe panel to investigate harassment charges against national coach RK Sharma

After a top Indian woman cyclist accused national coach RK Sharma&nbsp;of harassment, the Cycling Federation of India has recalled the entire Indian contingent from their tour of Slovenia. The move comes after the cyclist&nbsp;registered a complaint with the Sports Authority of India against coach Sharma.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on May 29 in Slovenia. After the complainant raised the issue with the Indian authorities, she was brought back to India on June 3.
The Sports Authority of India issued a statement in response, stating: 'The matter is being dealt with on priority and will be resolved shortly.'
Meanwhile, the Cycling Federation has put its support behind the female athlete and has formed a probe panel of its own.&nbsp;

In a new study from the University of Calgary, researchers found that walking for only 30 minutes every day can lower the risk of death in patients who have survived a stroke.

According to a study published in the journal Neurology, people who walk for at least 3-4 hours or cycle for at least 3 hours a week may have a 54 percent lower risk of death after having suffered a stroke.

For the study, researchers looked at 895 people with an average age of 72 who had suffered a stroke previously and 97,805 people with an average age of 63 who had never had a stroke. They evaluated the average weekly physical activity, its frequency and duration for about four and a half years.
Researchers found the largest reduction in death rate among people who had a previous stroke, but were under 75 years of age.&nbsp;As per the findings, the risk of death was reduced by 80% for people under the age of 75 who met the minimum level of physical activity (half an hour a day). On the other hand, people over 75 who&nbsp;performed the least amount of physical activity saw a smaller advantage but were still 32 percent less likely to die.
